“PASTOR-LEE” THOUGHTS“Love is in the air.” For many people this isthe month of love. February 14th is St. Valentine’sDay – the day people express their love for theirspouse and other relatives. Cupids, arrows, hearts, chocolate, cards, and other things areassociated with this special day. Our Deacons arehaving a Valentine’s Day card exchange tocelebrate this day. There are different thoughts regarding St.Valentine. “Valentinus” was martyred in the 3rd century A.D. for his Christian beliefs. There areconflicting reports as to why he was executed – whether it was his stance on Christian marriage orsome other Christian-related doctrine or belief he had.Regardless of the background of this holiday, it still is a day we celebrate the love we havefor others. This love is best expressed in the love that God has for us. The Apostle John is knownfor using the word ἀγάπη (agape) – the Greek word for God’s unconditional love for us and thelove Christians are to show to others – in his writings. He refers to himself as “the disciple whomJesus loved” and used the word “love” more than 40 times in 1 John alone. He also gives usprobably the most familiar verse in the New Testament when he quoted Jesus by writing, “For Godso loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perishbut may have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NRSV)Throughout this month of “love” let us focus on the love God has for each of us. This love isso intense that God sent His Son to die for our sins. This is the basis for our faith – let us rejoiceand be glad in it and – express that love to all we meet.Pastor LeeEMAIL ADDRESSES NEEDEDSolution to BibleCryptogram3You will walk inthe ways of goodmen and keep to thepaths of therighteous.
