www.ub.bw2019 LIST OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDY PROGRAMMES & THEIR ENTRYGENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTSREQUIREMENTSa) The general minimum ENTRY requirements tothe University shall be the Botswana valent qualification with at leastsix subjects NOT below a grade of E.j) When applying for a programme which isoffered by both full-time and distance learningmode, indicate whether you are applying forfull-time or distance learning, otherwise if notindicated it will be assumed that you areapplying for a full-time programme.b) For all programmes, English Language shall beone of the qualifying subjects.k) Meeting the minimum entry requirements doesnot guarantee admission.Admission willdepend on availability of space and thecompetitive strength of each applicant’s grades.c) English Language must at least be a minimum ofgrade C for non-science degree programmesand at least a minimum of grade D for sciencebased programmes.l) Applicants may make changes to theirprogramme choices during the applicationperiod. No changes will be allowed after theclosing date.d) For Degree programmes, at least five subjectsshall be at a minimum of grade C obtained atone or two examination sittings.m) Completed and fully documented ApplicationForms must reach the Admissions Office beforethe closing date.e) For Diploma and Certificate programmes, atleast a minimum of three grades of C with aminimum of grade E in English Language shallbe required. Applicants who want tospecialise in Mathematics and/Science Educationmust have a minimum grade D in English language,and a grade C in Mathematics and/Science orScience Double Award.Applicants with a Diploma in Education or itsequivalent shall be admitted into either Level 200or 300 of the Degree Programme on the basis ofaccumulated credits in the area of EducationalLeadership and Management or related areas.Relevant work experience in an educational settingshall be an added advantage.Applicants with a 3-year Diploma in PrimaryEducation or its equivalent shall normally enter atLevel 300.Holders of a 2-year Diploma in Primary Educationor equivalent shall normally enter at Level 200.Holders of a Teaching Certificate plus BGCSE willnormally enter at level 100. Reference will be madeto the articulation policy of the University ofBotswana to determine the possibility of entering atother levels as appropriate.Holders of Certificate in Primary Education or itsequivalent shall enter at Level 100.Bachelor of Education (Science): 4 years; BGCSEwith a minimum of grade D in English Languageand a grade of C in Mathematics, and grades of C inany two from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or aminimum of grade BB in Science Double Award orequivalent, or a minimum of grade A in PhysicalScience and a grade C in Biology, or equivalent.Holders of a Teaching Certificate or its equivalentwho do not meet the requirements above but haveexperience in an educational setting as managerswill be admitted into level 100. Applicants seekingadmission through this route shall submitrecommendation letters and proof of experience inteaching and evidence of prior learning.Bachelor of Education (Secondary): 3 years;Applicants with a Diploma in Secondary Educationor its equivalent shall be admitted into either Level200 or 300 of the Degree Programme based onaccumulated credits in the area of specialization.Teaching experience shall be an added advantage.Bachelor of Education (Family and ConsumerSciences): 4 years; BGCSE/equivalent with aminimum of Grade C in English Language, Biologyand/or Chemistry or related science combinations.A minimum of grade C in any Family and ConsumerSciences or Home Economics subject shall be anadded advantage.Bachelor of Education (Special Education): 4years; BGCSE/equivalent with a minimum grade ofD in English Language and grade C in Mathematicsand one Science subject, or a minimum of grade BBin Science Double Award for those wishing tospecialize in Science; a minimum grade of C inEnglish Language for those wishing to specialize inHumanities.Applicants with a Diploma in Family and ConsumerSciences or Home Economics or a Diploma inSecondary Education from Colleges of Education orits equivalent shall be admitted into Level 200 or300 of the Degree Programme on the basis ofaccumulated credits in the area of Family andConsumer Sciences or Home Economics.Applicants who have a Diploma in Education or itsequivalent, e.g. in Physical Education, HomeEconomics, Social work, Special Education, shall beadmitted into either Level 200 or Level 300 basedon accumulated credits in the area of SpecialBachelor of Education (Physical Education): 4years; BGCSE/equivalent with a minimum of gradeC in English Language.3

Teaching experience inEducation shall be an added advantage.Specialsecondary school leavers should apply for entryto Bachelor of Science (General).Applicants who have a Certificate in SpecialEducation or its equivalent plus BGCSE with at leastthree grades at a minimum of grade C shall beadmitted into Level 100.For admission into Level 200, applicants must haveany one of the following:a) Level 100 of Bachelor of Science (General)or its equivalent with at least grade C inMathematics and Physics ORDiploma in Adult Education: 2 years;BGCSE/equivalent. Preference shall be given toapplicants with some work experience in adulteducation.b) A-Level qualification with at least grade C inMathematics and Physics ORc) Relevant Diploma qualification of thisUniversity or equivalent qualification froma recognized institution.Applicants who do not meet the aboverequirements but have BGCSE and evidence ofrelevant prior learning and experience in adulteducation may be considered. Applicants seekingadmission through this route may be called forassessment.Applicants possessing an appropriate HigherDiploma may be admitted directly to Level 300 ofthe relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.Applicants possessing a Certificate in AdultEducation or in a related field may be admitted toLevel 200.BachelorofArchitecture:5years;BGCSE/equivalent with a minimum of Grade D inEnglish Language, a minimum of Grade C inMathematics, either a minimum of Grade C inPhysics or Grade BB in Science Double Award, and aminimum of Grade C in Art or in Design andTechnology.Postgraduate Diploma in Education: 1 year; arelevant Bachelors degree of this University or itsequivalent. The relevant degree is a degree inwhich an applicant must have majored in twoteaching subjects in the Humanities or majored inone teaching subject in Business, Science, ComputerScience, Mathematics and Family Consumer Scienceareas. All applicants who have been shortlisted forFrench as one of their major teaching subjects willbe required to attend an interview.Applicants with credits towards a degree fromother Post-Secondary Educational institutions areeligible to apply and may receive advanced creditfor their prior studies in comparable courses.All selected applicants are required to attend aninterview with Department of Architecture andPlanning and are advised that it would be anadvantage to bring a portfolio containing evidenceof interest in visual arts and/or design.
