Happy Birthday& best wishes to thefollowing our studentwho celebrates hisbirthday this coming weekBrodie Pumpa18th OctoberWe hope you have a great dayWords on Wellbeing - Sue CowieMental Health Awareness WeekThis week we think about our Mental Health. Do you know that 400 Million people in the world are affectedby mental illness? That’s why it is so important that we get rid of stigma. We all have Human Rights andeveryone, no matter the physical or mental ability, should be included in society.Discrimination often occurs through lack of understanding. So don’t let your friends say hurtful words like“psycho” or “mad”. Be brave and correct them. Everyone deserves respect and we can all help; encouragethe seeking of support, staying in work and at school. Share your story. You know I like quotes so let’s hearBill Clinton: “Mental Illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shameus all.”MYTH: Mental Illness is rare and doesn't affect average people.FACT: Mental Illness is quite common. According to World Health, 1 in 4 people in the worldwill be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their livesMYTH: People with Mental Illnesses are dangerous.FACT: Fed by the media, the fact is the majority of people with Mental Illnesses are notdangerous. They are much more likely to be the victims of violence.MYTH: Mental Illness does not affect children or adolescents – it is just a part of growing up.FACT: 1 in 10 children or adolescents has a disorder severe enough to cause impairment.MYTH: Mental Illness is more like a weakness than a real Illness.FACT: Mental Illnesses are as real as other diseases like cancer. Some Mental Illnesses areinherited, just as some physical Illnesses are.Emma Montgomery getting intoMYTH: People with Mental Illnesses can never be normal.the spirit of things - Well doneFACT: With proper treatment, many people with Mental Illnesses live normal lives. And don’t forget, Parents & Carers - Port of Call, Coffee/Chat 9th November 10am
