32nd Sunday of Ordinary TimeNovember 11, 2018Page 7SHARE PreschoolWe are feeling very thankful at SHARE. We will be discussing some of the things we are thankful for andlearning more about the Thanksgiving holiday this week.We will also be doing these fun activities: Creating a family picture Working in our journals Learning letter “Qq” Making our Thanksgiving placemats Painting at the easel Reading books about Thanksgiving Building a pet kennel Playing with playdough Measuring objectsA STEWARDSHIP MOMENTA thought or two on stewardship in the Sunday readingsJesus points out to his disciples the poor widowwho has just dropped two simple copper coinsinto the temple treasury. He then delivers a teaching on stewardship. Despite her poverty, the poorwidow in today’s Gospel does not refuse God hergenerosity. Out of her desperately impoverishedlife she contributes to an earthly institution togive God glory and praise. It is not the monetaryvalue of the gift that was important, but the love, trust and gratitude expressed through the gift. The Gospel asks us similarly compelling stewardship questions: What do we value? In what orwhom do we place our trust? How do our owncontributions to our community of faith reflectour generosity toward God?Are You Ill or Homebound?Anyone who is ill or homeboundplease let me know so I can schedulea visit. Contact Lori Ward at 7924242.Parish Charities CollectionDuring the month of November each year we have a special collection to support our local charitable outreach. There are frequently people who come to McCann Centerseeking assistance. We receive requests for gas, auto repairs, rent assistance, security deposits, food, electric bills, medical care, transportation, etc. The parish is not alwaysable to respond to each request, and is not always able torespond as fully as the individual might like the parish torespond. Your generous contributions to this annual fundwill help the parish to respond to the needy of the community and those who are passing through. A second collection will be taken the weekend of November 24th &25th for this purpose. The Miracle ofFather KapaunDo You Know This American War Hero?Emil Kapaun — priest, soldier, and Korean War hero — wasawarded posthumously the Medal of Honor, and is also being considered by the Vatican for canonization as a saint.“A must see film.”— James Sl, East Dubuque, IL

32nd Sunday of Ordinary TimeNovember 11, 2018Page 9Happy BirthdayLife After LossWinter is Coming:Tips for grieving through the winter bluesWeather can have a real impact on mood and coping, whetheryou like it or not. Getting through the winter months is tough, even without grief. Layer loss on top of that and it can complicate matters tremendously. The problem with waiting for winterto talk about winter is that by the time it comes, it has alreadystarted zapping motivation and energy. Planning is crucial, andit needs to start now, while the sun is still shining, so you areemotionally prepped when the darkness and cold hit. Here arejust a few of our ideas for coping with the winter blues.1. Start working on the memorial or legacy project you havebeen wanting to do (a memorial celebration, scholarshipfund, memorial walk, etc).2. Make a list of people you have lost touch with who you wantto reach out to by phone, email or social media.3. Start sorting through your loved one’s belongings if you havebeen putting it off and want to do it.4. Go through and organize, scan, print, etc old photographs(of your loved one or otherwise).5. Set some TV boundaries – some TV is a great, healthy escape. Too much TV can become a fall/winter hibernationproblem.6. Make a list of shows and movies you really want to watch, sowhen you are watching TV it is programs you really enjoy/value and not just mindless channel surfing.7. Stock up on puzzles.8. Stock up on books.9. Stock up on materials for arts, crafts, etc.10. Stock up on games.11. If winter really gets you down, consider a light box designedfor seasonal affective disorder.12. Sign up for a class at a local community college, communitycenter, or library to keep you motivated and get you out ofthe house.13. Sign up for an online class (the internet is filled with TONSof courses on anything you can think of!).14. Start scheduling regular get-togethers with good friends orfamily for coffee or dinner.15. Consider volunteering somewhere meaningful to you or yourloved one.November 11:Connor DaleNovember 12:Pat BodenNovember 14:Andrianne KilgoreNovember 15:Ron GullingNovember 16:Mary FlatteryNovember 17:Greg WoodsFor Birthdays to be listed in the bulletin, youneed to submit names and dates to Ann.Prayer ChainTo have someone added tothe Sacred Heart Prayer Chain, contact Marilyn Lamb at 2750020, Mary Pritchard at 792-3518 orTheresa Stewart by e-mail: stewart4@iowatele com.net.
