T R I S TA R W O R L D A P R I L 2 0 1 8ESHIPS (TRISTAR SHIPPING) CEOyear-end 2017, 23 vessels comprising 8coastal and 15 ocean going vessels.Whilst the shipping markets have beenchallenging in the past few years withmany traditional operators struggling,Tristar has as part of its integratedstrategy recognised the opportunityto cautiously expand in this segmentof logistics. First in late 2013 came theorder of 6 newbuilding MR Tankers withLong-Term Charters to Shell for deliveryin 2016 and second came the acquisitionof Eships in Q1 2016 to add additionalvessels and the operating platformincluding personnel capable of runningnot only the existing Eships business butalso the MR tankers to be delivered.From a small fleet of 7 Coastal vessels atyear-end 2015, Tristar / Eships had byIn Q1 2018, Eships increased its fleetto 24 when it purchased its first DryBulk vessel since 2013, re-entering amarket that Eships had exited under itsprevious shareholder. This acquisitionhas demonstrated the group’s abilityto continue growth whilst diversifyingwithin each business segment. Eshipsis a 100% subsidiary of Tristar and withthe shareholders’ vision and support, theshipping business has grown in less thanthree years from assets of 20m to over 320m contributing 1/3 of the group’sEBITDA in 2017.Tristar / Eships is currently reviewing theshipping strategy for the coming yearsin conjunction with its shareholders andis positively looking at the opportunitiesavailable in the market. New regulationsin relation to clean ballast water and lowsulphur emissions will be coming intoeffect in the coming years and Tristar/ Eships has already thought forwardand put in place (the MR tankers havemodern ballast water treatment plants)and started the planning to meet thenew regulations well in advance of theirimplementation.As with all of the Tristar Groupbusiness, CSR is at the forefront of anyEships business decision and growthopportunity discussion. The certificationwill generally improve the overallperformanceandcustomersatisfaction of the company.TRISTAR WINSOUTSTANDINGACHIEVEMENTAT THE TANKSTORAGEAWARDS 2018Tristar’s General Manager Vikraman KK wonthe Outstanding Achievement Award 2018 forTristar Terminals Guam Inc. (TTGI). The awardwas handed over to him at the Tank StorageAwards 2018 gathering held in Rotterdam,The Netherlands, on March 20. The awardrecognized his work on the Fuel Farm which isthe largest fuel storage facilities in the Pacific.The Fuel Farm is spread over 237 acres with 4million bbl storage capacity and has 26 tanksinterconnected to Port Authority of Guam’s oilberths and other major customers.Mr. Vikraman has been the driving force for thesuccess of TTGI since the time it was acquiredfrom Shell Guam Inc in November 2009.TTGI has grown tremendously to be a majorand preferred fuel storage and terminallingpartner for various commercial, defense andgovernment agencies in the Island of Guam.He is a mechanical engineer by qualificationand has worked in different geographical zonesranging from South Asia to Middle East, and toCentral America for large multinational stateand privately owned oil and gas enterprises.

The Into-Plane RefuellingOperations commenced on February14. The Kismaayo UNSOS team wasjubilant at the start of the operationas it signified the end of their drumoperation.JIG InspectionJIG International Inspection wasconducted for all the six Aviationsites in Somalia in February. Thisis the first JIG inspection for mostof the sites since takeover of theoperation from previous contractor.The inspection has identified somevery good improvement plans andthey will help further align Tristar’sAviation Operation with the standardrequirements.EFMS ImplementationEFMS (Electronic Fuel ManagementSystem) has been implemented andin rollout stage at all UNSOS sites inSomalia. Tristar has played a key rolein the implementation process andthe system is being implemented inall Aviation sites in Somalia.Automatic Tank Gauging System(ATG)For automatic real-time inventory overview of thestock held in the tanks at various sites in Somalia,Tristar has installed Automatic Tank Gauging(ATG) System in Mogadishu, Belet Wayne, Baidoa,Beledogle and Dhobley sites, which gives Real TimeTank Gauging, Batch Report for internal and externaltransfer, API calculator, reliable alarm handling, etc.The system is fully developed in such that the ATGmaster control can communicate with the RTG (RadarTank Gauging), Field Communication Unit (FCO), andData Accusation Units (DAU) to collect measureddata like level/temperature. The slave protocol serverexchanges tank data between the tank server and thehost computer.SAUDI ARABIA UPDATESAFAL Ground ActivitiesNew Warehouse CompoundTristar KSA called United Stars has a new warehouse compoundin Dammam Modon Second industrial area which has an areaof 20,000 sqm while the warehouse is 9000 sqm big.New Business WinUnited Stars signed a contract with Sabic on February 1 for thetransportation of gases (Liquid Nitrogen, Liquid Co2 and othertype of gases) for three years. The contract covers domestictransport and GCC transport.In a bid to create further awareness and increase salesof Caltex lubricants, the AFAL team has conductedseveral garage storms around the country. The teamliterally ‘stormed’ several garages and auto sparesaround Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Thika and Eldoret to talkto mechanics and car owners about the benefits ofusing Caltex lubricants. They handed giveaway itemsand reconnected with the people and communitiesthat have a stake in Kenya’s automotive industry.About seven garage storms were conducted in Marchas part of the Caltex BebaBeba promotion. The onground activities were broadcasted live on radioacross the country.

The first groupcomposed of 22 post-graduate studentsfrom top Indian business school nearMumbai, Dr V. N. Bedekar Instituteof Management Studies (VNBRIMS),visited the Tristar Group on March 8 aspart of their educational tour in Dubaito understand how to swiftly navigatethrough the globalized, multicultural andever-evolving business landscape. Thestudents were accompanied by Dr. NitinJoshi and Prof. Kanchan Akshay fromVNBRIMS. They were given an orientationof the group’s operations in RoadTransport, Warehousing and Shipping,as well as the company’s breakthroughblockchain technology that is changingthe way business is done in the logisticssector.The second delegation were journalistsand editors from 10 publications andonline portals covering shipping andlogistics. They were mostly from Europeand were in Dubai for a three-day visitto companies connected to shipping andports. Tristar Group CEO Eugene Mayneaddressed them on March 26 and sharedhis professional life story and businesssuccess. The tour was organized byBlue-C which has conducted over 50maritime and offshore energy press toursduring the past 15 years and it was their5th press tour to Dubai. “We want tofocus on the leading players in maritimebusiness and to keep companies/management on a name to name basiswith strategic media stakeholders, themaritime press,” explained ChristinaDupré Roos, Partner and Press RelationsManager of Blue-C.Five Mercedes-Benz Actros 3344S6x4 Trucks were acquired by Tristar.These unique trucks present the UAE’sroads with the latest in active andpassive safety technology through theirinnovative system of Active Brake Assist2. Besides the standard electronicallycontrolled Telligent braking systemwith Anti-lock braking system (ABS)and Acceleration skid control (ASR), thetruck is also equipped with the optionalActive Brake Assist. The Active BrakeAssist system operates with three radarbeams, which constantly scan an areaof 1 to 200 meters ahead of the truck.Radar detection of a collision with amoving obstacle would result in thedriver been given a visual and audile alertby the system. Depending on the severityof the situation, the system will reactwith a partial braking maneuver and, ifnecessary, even initiates an emergencybraking to standstill. Mr.Omar was also a resource speaker at theOctober 29 QSM.to the site without traffic. The locationis one kilometer to the sea and is 25kilometers away from Abu Dhabi airport.It is also strategically located to KhalifaPort (80kms) and near the highwaywhich connects to GCC countries, aswell as the Etihad Rail project and ADNOCdistribution center.

These are beingundertaking to achieve “Goal Zero” in TristarGroup. HSE developed a comprehensivesafety training plan for 2018 for drivers,helpers, front line supervisors, as well asmanagers and admin staff.The HSE Leadership training for front linesupervisors and managers consists of eightmodules, or two modules per quarter. ‘BeingA Good Safety Leader’ and ‘RecognizingWhat Drives Behavior’ were cascaded in the1st quarter with theory and group activitieslast February 8.Participants were divided in four groups andeach group performed interactive activitiesto discuss about the concept of “EffectiveBARRIER THINKINGBy Kannan RadhakrishananWarehouse Manager, UAEand Ineffective Leadership” and the “Plan,Do, Check & Act (PDCA) cycle”. Two morepractical group activities were performedby the participants to become comfortablewith identifying a behavior’s antecedentsor consequences and to connect theIntervention/Coaching Guidelines with whatfront line supervisors/managers alreadyknow and make it easier to remember.TristariscertifiedforIntegratedManagement System (IMS) of Quality ‘ISOStandard 9001:2015’, Environment ‘ISOStandard 14001:2015’, Health and Safety‘OHSAS 18001:2015’, and Road Transport‘ISO Standard 39001:2012’. To enhancethe understanding about IMS, policies andprocedures, the HSE Department conducteda refresher training on March 13.On March 19 the security guards detailedat the new Abu Dhabi facility underwent atraining on controlling safe barriers to beable to handle any unsafe conditions anddeal with any emergencies.Office Housekeeping has tasks that can makeeveryone safe and feel comfortable duringworking hours. Since employees spendmost of their waking hours at the office, theimportance of ‘Office Housekeeping Safety’was explained thoroughly during a trainingsession on March 22.The HSE Department also organized aHearts and Mind session on “Non DrivingHazards for Drivers” on March 30. Theobjective of the training is to instill an‘Engine Off, Safety Off’ mindset.The benefits: ground staff expressed theirideas and views on safety more freely andmost of them used were able to talk withoutexperiencing stage fright.for improvement. The training includedtopics on contamination, storage tankcommissioning/draining, into plane fueling,and other services.Aviation Training in MaliDriver Training at RAK OperationA driver training and safety walkaboutsession was held at the Ras Al KhaimahTipper Operation on March 26. Severaltopics were discussed such as the 5 TristarGolden Road Rules, Fatigue Management,Vehicle Inspection, Tire Safety, and Learningfrom incidents.Barrier Thinking is basically a safetyawareness and alertness training sessiondesigned to educate all the helpers,forklift operators and supervisors on thewarehouse ground with simple examples onhow to be more cautious in every activitythat they handle in their daily operations.Each helper was asked to identify oneactivity that they handle in daily. It wasnamed ‘Hazard’. Then they were asked toidentify all the expected potential threatsand dangers pertaining to that hazard.Finally, they come up with all the valuableprocess that need to be followed insequence to execute that the activity is safeand successful.It was a good training tailored to educateall the ground level staff on how to bemore alert while working with utmost focusand concentration. This is still an ongoingtraining organized by GM-RT&W and AGMOperations every Saturday for two to threehours.An Aviation Training Program and a JIGInspection were conducted in Mali fromJanuary 16 to 22. Overall, 44 participantsattended the workshops whose goal was toimpart knowledge in Aviation Fuel Qualityand operation procedures, with an emphasison the identification of good practices andfor further providing recommendationsForklift Training at Warehouse 2 andJAFZA SouthCivil Vocational Training Center conducteda Forklift Safety Operating Skills training atWarehouse 2 last year and at JAFZA Southlast March 27. The training was coordinatedby Yakhoob Ahmed of the HSE Department.It covered topics ranging from causes offorklift accidents to preventing cargo spillsand proper forklift truck maintenance.
