The skills I picked up in this major go beyond writing essaysand my understanding of text, they extend to a new understandingof the world. I was introduced to many theories and concepts thatreshaped my thinking, which when applied to other fields put meat an advantage. On a more practical level, all this development hasallowed me to cultivate a firm grasp on language use.Studying English literature does not confirm the stereotype that all wedo is “read books and write papers.” Literary texts have taught me todeconstruct the assumed rigidity of ideas and to appreciate the value ofexistence. It has also provided me with a space that allows me to definemyself. I am grateful for my supportive colleagues and professors. Weestablished a wonderful family—one that will not be forgotten once wewalk down the stage onto the path of a new life.Aisha Al Ali, language concentration, Class of 2019Dana Jaber, literature concentration, Class of 2019The AUS StoryAmerican University of Sharjah (AUS), founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultanbin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emiratesand Ruler of Sharjah, who envisioned AUS as a leading educational institution in the Gulfregion.
