Qualification and unit contentPearson has developed the content of the new BTEC International Level 3 qualificationsin collaboration with employers and representatives from higher education, and relevantprofessional bodies. In this way, we have ensured that content is up to date and thatit includes the knowledge, understanding, skills and personal attributes required inthe sector. The mandatory content ensures that all learners are following a coherent programme ofstudy and that they acquire knowledge, understanding and skills that will be recognisedand valued by higher education and employers. Learners are expected to showachievement across mandatory units as detailed in Section 2 Structure.BTEC qualifications encompass applied learning that brings together knowledge andunderstanding with practical and technical skills. This applied learning is achievedthrough learners performing vocational tasks that encourage the development ofappropriate vocational behaviours and transferable skills. Transferable skills are thosesuch as communication, teamwork and research and analysis, which are valued in bothhigher education and the workplace. Opportunities to develop these skills aresignposted in the units. Our approach provides rigour and balance, and promotes the ability to apply learningimmediately in new contexts.Centres should ensure that content, for example content that references regulation, legislation, policies and regulatory/standards organisations, is kept up to date. The unitsinclude guidance on approaches to breadth and depth of coverage, which can bemodified to ensure that content is current and reflects international variations.AssessmentAssessment is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification.
