WHAT IS SYSTEMA?Systema (The System) is a Russian method of training based on traditional healthand martial practices, developed for modern use by experts within Russian SpecialForces.Over the centuries, Russia developed many fighting styles to deal with conflict andwars on all borders. From the Bogatyr to the Cossacks, many methods of armedand unarmed combat were developed.When the Soviets took power, they sought to suppress many traditions. Howeverthey also recognised the value of some and so synthesised various styles for use bymilitary and security forces. One such example is Combat Sombo.Systema was developed for use of various special task and bodyguard units. It wasdesigned to be subtle, non-showy and natural in look and use. In the post-Soviet eraSystema has become more widely known and is now practiced world wide.As well as combat methods, Systema also encompasses fitness training as well asmany health and healing methods. It is practiced today by a wide range of people,from military professionals to dancers and movement enthusiasts. WHAT ARE CLASSES LIKE?Classes are friendly and informal and based on the individual more than the group.Work is based on natural movement rather than fixed stances and movement patterns.Our approach is principle rather than technique based.There is no set class structure, though each session will normally include breathing andstrength / movement exercises.Most of the work is conducted with one or more training partners. All levels work together.Drill speed and contact levels are regulated according to the experience of the student.Systema has no grading or belt system and none of the formalised patterns seen in Oriental arts.It incorporates many areas of training not seen in “traditional” styles and was developed from aEuropean perspective. The emphasis is on being adaptable and creative, both physically andmentally. Classes finish with a “circle up” where everyone can give feedback about the 6 040759 (office hours)

SYSTEMA FOR SELF DEFENCESystema covers all aspects of self defence, from everyday incidents to professionalwork. This includes- awareness- fear control- fight psychology- strikes, kicks, throws, ground work- weapons (knife, stick, etc)- improvised weapons- close protection work- situational work (in-car, confined spaces, etc)- dealing with stress and trauma- legal aspects of self defenceBecause the work is principle based, you will not become overloaded with techniques,nor need to learn different arts to cover different areas of 6 040759 (office hours)

SYSTEMA FOR HEALTH & FITNESSSystema incorporates a wide range of training for fitness and health, including:- mobility training for all environments- natural strength building- stretching and flexibility- Russian military fitness methods- unique breath work for mental control and endurance- massage and manipulation- comprehensive stress management- dietary work- cold water dousingThis work is combined in general classes with self defence work. WHO CAN TRAIN AND WHERE?Our classes are open to adults of good character regardless of background, race or creed.Currently our students are mostly male, mostly martial arts enthusiasts with a smatteringof military and other professionals. Ages range from 19 to late 60s.No previous experience is required and you do not need to be fit or “in shape”.We currently run an open class every Tuesday 7-8.45 am atRealfit Gym Realfit Gym 19 Little End Rd, St Neots PE19 8JHPlease contact before attending to book your place.First lesson is free. You can then pay 20 for the next two sessions.Following that, training fee is 40 per month payable by standing order.Fee includes attendance at Tues open and Saturday bi-weekly classes.Membership is also included and entitles you to discount on Cutting Edge products 07956 040759 (office hours)

WORKSHOPSWe also run regular workshops. These are usually one day on a particular topic.In addition we organise an annual training camp which runs for three days.This allows for “immersion training” and really helps to accelerate learning as well ashaving a great weekend outdoors!We also occasionally invite in guest instructors for specific topics. In the past thishas includes Sombo groundwork, pistol training (airsoft), woodcraft and conflictmanagement and negotiationChief Instructor Robert Poyton also teaches workshops at various clubs and groupsin the UK and Europe. INSTRUCTORCES founder and Chief Instructor Robert Poyton was born and raised in EastLondon. After training in Judo and boxing as a boy, he began formal training in1981 in Chinese martial arts. In addition he has trained in other styles of martialarts, including , Ju Jitsu, Combatives, etc with many leading teachers.Robert has had articles published in Combat, Martial Arts Illustrated, Men'sHealth, Maxim and others. In 1998 he was featured in the Ultimate Book ofMartial Arts.Robert trained with Vladimir Vasiliev on his first UK visit in 2000 and was one ofthe first UK Systema instructors. He maintains close links with both Vladimir andhis teacher Mikhail Ryabko. He has trained with both extensively, in Toronto andMoscow. He has published a number of Systema books and film downloads.Colonel Mikhail Ryabko - founder of modern Systema. Former tacticalcommander of hostage-rescue teams, counter-terrorist operations, and armedcriminal neutralization. He is a veteran of military actions and holds many medalsand awards from the government and from the Russian Orthodox ChurchVladimir Vasiliev - 10 years of extensive service with the Special Operations Unitof Spetsnaz, including regular high-risk covert assignments. He also served astrainer for paratroopers, swat teams, and elite bodyguards.
