SUMMER SCHOOL REPORTSummary of Summer School program on Information and Systems SecuritySchool of Information Technology, VIT University, Vellore, India had organized a summerschool program on Information and Systems Security in association with ACM-India for 3weeks from 29-05-2017 to 16-06-2017. ACM India had sponsored 4 such summer schoolsin the country and VIT University, Vellore was the only institute in South India to organizethe program.The objective of this summer school was to train the students and impart the knowledge in allaspects of computer and communication security, including foundational topics such asCryptography as well as latest research topics. This three week program had an intensive 100hours schedule with assignments and project work. The course had 4 streams, Cryptography,System Security, Network Security and special lectures.From the list of 272 applicants, a set of 40 students from different institutes and differentregions including IITs, NITs, Central Universities and other Engineering institutes wereselected to participate in this program. The students were from New Delhi, Pune, Mumbai,Indore, Trivandrum, Sri City, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai. The students wereaccommodated in VIT hostels. The course had practical sessions, tutorial hours and scompletedaresearch/analysis/programming project work in their chosen topic during this period.Eminent speakers from reputed institutes delivered the lectures.The speakers include Dr.Clifford Neuman, University of Southern CaliforniaDr. Bhavana Kanukurthi, Indian Institute of Science, BangaloreDr. Chester Rebeiro, Indian Institute of Technology, MadrasDr.Kannan Srinathan, International Institute of Information Technology, HyderabadDr.Vishal Saraswat,C.R.Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics, andComputer Science, HyderabadDr.V.Anil Kumar, CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute, BangaloreDr.S. This will also help to improve theexisting quality and quantity of summer schools in India. VIT University has alreadyincluded project-based learning, research based learning, curriculum for applied learning,fully flexible credit system, digital technologies, individual attention in its academicprocesses. Our students are competing with the best students of the world in solvingengineering problems.
