STAAR and STAAR-End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR , is the state testing program that was implemented in the 2011–2012 school year.The Texas Education Agency (TEA), in collaboration with the Texas Higher EducationCoordinating Board (THECB) and Texas educators, developed the STAAR program inresponse to requirements set forth by the 80th and 81st Texas legislatures.STAAR is an assessment program designed to measure the extent to which students havelearned and are able to apply the knowledge and skills defined in the state-mandatedcurriculum standards, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).Every STAAR question is directly aligned to the TEKS currently implemented for thegrade/subject or course being assessed.For more information about the STAAR program, visit the STAAR Resources webpage athttp://tea.texas.gov/student.assessment/staar

Student Performance Described on STAAR and EOC For the STAAR program, the labels for the performance scores are: Masters Grade Level (passing) Meets Grade Level (passing) Approaches Grade Level (passing) Did Not Meet Grade Level (not passing)

2020-2021 Assessment Participation According to the guidance provided by the Texas Education Agency, students willonly be able to be administered the state assessments in a proctored testingenvironment on campus. For those students who are already in-person or hybrid, state assessments will bescheduled and administered. For those students who are virtual, the Texas Education Agency has instructedschool districts and charter schools to inform parents of the assessmentopportunities and benefits and make arrangements for students to come tocampus and participate in the 2020-2021 state assessment program.

STAAR and STAAR-End-of-Course (EOC)Assessments This assessment is designed to measure what students have learned ineach grade and whether or not they are prepared for the next gradelevel. The goal is to ensure that all students receive what they need to beacademically successful. The assessment must be taken In-Person, On-Campus at UniversalAcademy.

The Benefits of taking the STAAR andEnd-0f-Course (EOC) Assessments The STAAR provides valuable information for the teachers each year in order toprovide appropriate instruction that supports students in content areas. The STAAR progress measure provides valuable information that aide in thedetermination of assessment accommodations for classroom, district and stateassessments so that students are successful. The STAAR data gives an overall performance measure of a student’s academiclevel in a particular grade and specific concepts taught.

Remote/Virtual Learners Universal Academy will be offering virtual students' opportunities tocome on campus and take the STAAR assessment. The STAAR and STAAR-EOC assessment will take 1 day. The assessment is an online/paper assessment measuring growth inReading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

CDC Guidelines Students will be spaced according to the CDC guidelines and allequipment will be sanitized before and after use. All students will be required to wear a mask while they are on campus.

Cell Phones Students will be required to check-in their cellphones when they enter the campus. Cell phones are not allowed in the testingareas.
