This document outlines the specifications for the fixedwidth data layout. For information on the comma delimited data layout, reviewthe Excel cross walk for this format at collegereadiness.collegeboard.org.Please note, College Board does not deliver paper student score reportsor score labels to the student’s school. Data Layout for SAT and SAT Subject Tests Electronic Score ReportsSAT School Day –Improved Access to the TestSAT School Day removes barriers for students by offering the test duringschool hours. When a district or state pays for juniors or seniors to take theSAT in their hometown schools, it sends a powerful message of commitmentto preparing all students for the next step. SAT School Day helps to foster aculture in which staff, parents, and students alike focus on improving collegeand career readiness.Opportunities continue to expand for students to participate in SAT SchoolDay initiatives. These administrations are reported as separate administrationdates in the fall, winter, and spring.SAT School Day administrations are reported as separate administration dates. If your district offers SAT School Day, or if a student moves into your districtfrom a district that offers SAT School Day, you may see scores on his or herreport that indicate an additional administration date from the usual sevenweekend administrations. For more information, contact the SAT Educator Help Line at888-SAT-HELP (728-4357).Test Scores(positions 672–726)The SAT contains several scores, including a total score, section scores, testscores, cross-test scores, and subscores. The total score is on a scale of400-1600; Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math section scores areon a scale of 200-800, test and cross-test scores are on a scale of 10-40, andsubscores are on a scale of 1-15. Additionally, the optional Essay will be reportedas three subscores on a scale of 2-8. All scores are whole integers, except theMath test score, which is in 0.5 increments (i.e., 10.0, 10.5, 11.0, etc.).From March 2005 to March 2016, the SAT included critical reading, mathematics, and writing section scores, reported as three digits on a scale of 200-800, aswell as subscores for the essay and writing multiple choice. These scores arestill included in the score report file if students took this version of the test.To differentiate between the current SAT scores and old SAT scores thereare two sets of score fields provided in the layout, one for each group ofadministration scores. If the scores being provided are from the current SAT,only the current SAT scores and percentile fields will be populated. If thescores being provided are from the old SAT, only the scores and percentilefields for the old SAT will be populated. For the current SAT, we include college and career readiness benchmarkindicators at the section-level scores. As shown in our research, benchmarkattainment is related to many positive college outcomes and can be a usefultool in measuring the college readiness of high school students.SAT Subject Test scores are reported as three digits on a scale of 200-800 indistinct score fields.Major Codes(positions 2277-2298)2The codes for majors align with the Classification of Instructional Programs(CIP) codes provided by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).While we only use a subset of the published codes, we recommend allowingfor any CIP codes because we update the SAT-supported values regularly.
