WHY ADOPT ENERGY ESSENTIALSDISTRIBUTED BY RAYMOND (EEDR)LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES?KNOW BEFORE YOU GO —UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE GETTINGBEFORE YOU ADOPT1.Limited maintenance: No watering or harmfulemissions1.Are all lithium-ion batteries created equal? — NO2.Are all chemistries the same? — NO With lithium batteries, utilize personnel for valueadded activities3.Are all batteries using the same lithium-ion chemistry thesame? — NO Remove the battery changing area from your operationto regain floor space for product, improve SKU countand space allocation4.Do all lithium-ion batteries have similar cycle life, likeFlooded Lead Acid (FLA)? — NO5.Can I use any lithium-ion battery in my equipment? — NO6.Are lithium-ion batteries the right choice for me? —MAYBE7.Do all lithium-ion batteries carry UL listing? — NO8.Do all lithium-ion batteries offer integral data liberationcapability? — NO9.How does Energy Essentials Distributed by Raymondwork for me? Zero emission power source improves indoor air quality2.Maximize your ability to opportunity chargeand rapid charge Lithium-ion batteries can be charged at higher rates thanFlooded Lead Acid (FLA) and Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL)products No cooling period or warm-up delay; no wastedcharge time Bring chargers where lift trucks are used3.Maintains voltage and power delivery at lowstates of charge Consistent performance throughout the discharge range Productivity increase: Work at peak performance longer, move more product4.Run a single battery, in many applications Limited battery changes--eliminate non-value addedwork Improved total cost of ownership (TCO) andoperational efficiency5.Active battery management and data liberation “Smart” power source, battery data can be accessedvia CANBus on truck Battery management system (BMS) allows forcommunication between battery and truck BMS regulates operating characteristics of battery inoperation6.Longer useful life 5,000 cycle life, compared with up to 1500 cycles fromlead-acid batteries (LAB) Expected 7-year life, in high duty 2-shift applicationEXPLORING OFFERINGS AND PLANNINGLithium-ion can provide increased performance, faster chargingand limited maintenance. When selecting a lithium-ion battery, standards conformance, chemistry, chemical stability, cycle life, power density, combined with the specific application needsand constraints are important considerations to ensuring theoptimum battery selection. With the right choice, the total costof ownership will be reduced. Power study support is availablethrough Raymond to record data and determine applicationneeds. An initial consideration is the UL listing of the power source. This listing is needed to maintain the overall truck-levelcompliance. The Raymond Corporation has qualified to theapplicable UL standards -- UL2271 and UL2580. Additionally,UN transportation standards have been met toensure compliance while transporting modulesand the battery, allowing the transportation anduse of the batteries to be in full compliance withlocal and national regulations.Lithium-ion battery chemistry is also a primary consideration. For electric lift truck applications, lithium iron phosphate (LFP)and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) are the most commonofferings. The customers’ application and their needs willdictate which chemistry is better suited. NMC chemistryoffers superior energy density and is utilized to support highduty applications. High energy density allows for longer runtimes between charges and a smaller battery can be used, insome cases. LFP chemistry offers a lower price point, but itis less energy-dense than NMC products. When appropriatedesign procedures are followed for the LIB cell design andthe battery management system (BMS) design, the overall

chemical stability of NMC and LFP are equivalent. Calculationsand empirical data developed by the Energy Essentials’ teamhave shown that the NMC chemistry is superior to LFP toensure proper operation supporting high-cycle, demandingapplications. To deliver the maximum potential benefit, Raymond haspursued a high-density, high-stability, long-life power source. The EEDR NMC offering uses a proprietary cell constructionand manufacturing process to provide best-in-class cycle life.NMC chemistry permits higher cell voltage and energy densityat the module and final battery assembly level. Using a specialceramic separator, NMP-free electrode and advanced BMS,we provide a very stable, longer-life power source than LFPand other similar chemistries. The use of higher temperatureproduction methods, allowed by the separator, permits forCeramic PETmore residual water dissipation from the cell. This translatesdirectly into increased cycle life. Additionally, electrolyteadditives help to address higher temperature utilization andallow continued stable, strong performance. These patentedinnovations, and a proprietary BMS, are optimized to create abattery that excels in high-throughput, multishift applications. The below images demonstrate thermal stability betweenceramic separators and other separators for NMC batteries. This prevents thermal runaway.Coated POMATERIALSINNOVATIONCeramic PETCoated POElectrovayaTechnologyCompetitorTechnology15 MIN AT 130oCPET Polyethylene TerephthalatePO PolyolefinONE CHARGE & GREENCUBES PRODUCTSEAST PENN NAVITASSYSTEMS & FLUX POWERPRODUCTS(Crown, Junghienrich, Linde,CYCLE LIFE3,0003,0003,2005,000STANDARDSCOMPLIANCEFirst generation separator –No ULSecond generation separator –UL 2580 ListedSecond generation separator– UL 2580 ListedThird generation fullyceramic separatorSEPARION UL 2580 ListedCHEMISTRYLFPLFPNCA, NMC, LFPNMCApplication duty cycles drive different requirements by facility. Toensure the best possible match, the Raymond Energy Solutionsteam designed the battery architecture to support two- shift highduty applications. This allows the battery to support the toughestuse cases while maintaining reserve power and flexibility for otherapplications. The battery can support full 1C charging to allow forrapid refill of battery capacity, providing the means for maximumvehicle utilization via opportunity charging during short breaksand rapid charging during longer lunch breaks. The total cost ofownership (TCO) is minimized via the tailoring of the battery sizeand the charging strategy for the specific application need. Asshown in the graph at right, both cell supplier and third-party testingillustrate that a carefully selected battery will consistently outlastand outperform lower-cost, lower-density offerings, designed onlyto compete on initial price instead of total cost of ownership. The EEDR battery demonstrates superior cycle life across theoperating temperature spectrum.TRIATHLONprivate label products)RAYMOND ENERGYESSENTIALS PRODUCTS* NY Best Test and Commercialization Center.Projections shown above are calculated using degradation rates from cell cycle physical testing under controlledconditions.
