KEY POINTSDEGR EE FOCU SOur degree is a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development (ELOD), with a specializationin Sport Administration. Many programs across the country are part of larger Ph.D. programs. At the Universityof Louisville, ELOD is the umbrella degree for a variety of programs. This association allows us to utilize theresources of the Educational Leadership program while still providing a comprehensive sport administrationcurriculum.DEGREE REQUIREMENTSOur students come from a variety of educational backgrounds. To ensure students have sufficient mastery of thecore content areas, students may be required to take graduate level courses in Sport Administration as part oftheir specialty component or elective component.TIMETABLE OF STUDYTypically, it takes a full-time doctoral student two (2) years to complete all coursework in order to become eligibleto take Comprehensive Exams. A dissertation typically requires 1-2 years of additional research and writing.Students usually finish the program in three (3) years.FUND ING SOUR CESFunding opportunities are limited and highly competitive, as it is at other institutions. Often, funding opportunitiesmay take the form of a GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) and qualified students may also be eligible for selectedUniversity Fellowships. Students interested in loans or other financial assistance should contact the Financial AidOffice.RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIESPartner with fellow doctoral students or faculty to do research in your chosen area of focus. The goal of theseprojects is publication in academic journals.TEACHING OPPORTUNITIESOpportunities are available to teach undergraduate and graduate SPAD classes. HOW WE WORKOUR SPORT ADMINISTRATION EXPERIENCEWHOStudents from across the world call UofL home. Many doctoral studentsjoin us after several years working in sport or other industries. Somestudents return to our classrooms after lengthy careers, looking to gainthe Louisville advantage.WHATThe Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and OrganizationalDevelopment (ELOD) encompasses five specialties: Sport Administration,P-12 Administration, Post-secondary Administration, Human ResourceDevelopment, and Evaluation. It prepares graduates to understand andperform basic and applied research in their specialty area.WHEREStudents take courses on UofL’s Belknap Campus. We are located onthe first floor of the Student Activities Center near the bookstore. Our areafeatures state-of-the-art classrooms. Most classes are in the evenings(usually 4:30 - 7pm). All required courses are taught during the fall orspring semesters. Additional courses may be during summer sessions.WHYOur mission is to prepare you with skill sets to become the next generationof educators, researchers, leaders, and academic decision makers. LOUISVILLEPROFESSORSADAM COCCOAdam Cocco joined the Sport Administration doctoral program in August 2017. He receivedhis undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Youngstown State University andhis M.A. in Economics from the University of Akron. His prior work experience includes overseven years as a data analyst in the financial sector. He also has provided financial analysisand assisted with gameday operations for two lower-division soccer teams in the UnitedStates. His research areas focus on the economic impact of sport on local communities andthe psychological connection between sport teams and their fans.EVAN FREDERICKMEG HANCOCKDr. Hancock received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Developmentwith an emphasis in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville. Her researchinterests include gender and diversity in the workplace, sport management education,and sport for development. Prior to UofL, she worked as an assistant athletic director andassistant dean of first-year students at Dartmouth College. She also has a B.A. insociology/anthropology from Randolph College and an M.S. in higher education from MiamiUniversity.MARY A. HUMSDr. Mary A. Hums received a Ph.D. in Sport Management from Ohio State University, anM.A. in Athletic Administration and an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa and a B.B.A.in Management from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to coming to the Universityof Louisville, Dr. Hums served on the Sport Management faculty at the University ofMassachusetts-Amherst, directed the Sport Management Program at Kennesaw StateUniversity, was Athletic Director at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and has worked fourParalympic Games.ANITA M. MOORMANDr. Frederick received a Ph.D. in Sport Management from Indiana University. He alsoreceived his M.S. in Sport Management and B.A. in Communication and Culture from IndianaUniversity. He teaches in the areas of sport communication and organizational behavior. Hisresearch interest is the intersection of sport and social media. His prior work experience inProfessor Moorman received a law degree from Southern Methodist University andpracticed law in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the areas of commercial and securitieslitigation for 10 years. Professor Moorman also holds an M.S. in Sport Management fromthe University of Oklahoma, and a B.S. in Political Science from Oklahoma State University.Professor Moorman teaches in the areas of sport law, facility and event management, andlegal aspects of the sport industry.CHRIS GREENWELLGIN PRESLEYDr. Greenwell received a Ph.D. in Sport Management from the Ohio State University, aM.
