Enclosed, is the 2021 Gwinnett County Master Gardener Extension Volunteer (MGEV) program application. Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Program involveshorticultural service training that requires you to complete a minimum of 50 volunteer hours to earn your certification during thefirst year and 25 volunteer hours every year thereafter to stay in good standing.Applications cannot be accepted after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 Enrollment in the program is limited to 15 people.Classes begin August 25 and conclude November 17, 2021.The training sessions are held on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Trainees are required to pass a midterm and a final exam.Classes are held in conjunction with Cobb and Dekalb County trainees. The classes from August 25 to October 6will be held at the Cobb County Parks Training Facility 1792 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008, andthe ones from October 13 to November 17 will be held at Gwinnett Technical College, 5150 Sugarloaf Parkway,Lawrenceville, GA 30043.The fee for the 2021 program will be 200.00.Fees include the Georgia Master Gardener handbook, classes and lectures by experts, temporary and permanentname tags, classroom supplies and a ‘Certificate of Completion’ after 50 hours of volunteer time have beencompleted by the first year.Remember the deadline for the application is Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Check topics of interest to you:Ask a Master Gardener diagnostics – Answer questions from the public at public venues and inthe Extension office. Events may include themed exhibits at local farmer’s markets and festivals,the Georgia National Fair, area retail merchants, and other community venues to answerhomeowner questions.Youth activities and programs – Work with team of Master Gardeners to conduct horticultureactivities with youth in grades 4-12, such as in-class presentations, school gardens, JuniorMaster Gardener programs, MG SPROUTS, summer camps, or other activities.Media – Create brochures, newsletters and flyers using Publisher Software; develop PowerPointpresentations for use in classes; write news articles for local newspapers and websites; socialmedia posts; radio and/or TV.Speakers’ Bureau – Prepare a short, 15-20 minute talk for various civic and church engagementsto offer horticultural information. Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer ApplicationMaster Gardener Program Agreements:Initial each statement and sign at bottom to indicate that you understand and agree to thefollowing conditions if accepted into the program.I understand that submission of this application does not guarantee acceptance to the program.I understand that to be considered as a UGA MGEV Trainee, I will need to complete a UGAVolunteer Agreement, background screening (including motor vehicle records check), interviewwith Extension personnel, and pay any program fees.I understand that Georgia Master Gardener status is acquired only after successful completionof the volunteer training program and volunteer service, including:Completion of classroom training (minimum of 42 hours), not missing more than 20% oftraining classes.
