ROYAL VANCOUVER YACHT CLUB BECOMING A MEMBER The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club is one of the world's premier yacht clubs and one of the finest in Vancouver. Our mission is to promote yachting, seamanship and fellowship among current members and those who share our values of tradition, sportsmanship, and community service, among many others. RVYC offers seven exclusive Offshore Stations in the Strait of Georgia and Indian Arm and two home ports right in Vancouver. Our Clubhouse on Jericho Beach has an unbeatable view of English Bay and the North Shore Mountains from two restaurants and serves as the perfect venue for family and corporate celebrations as well as a place to hold meetings or work in private. Both home ports boast safe, clean and environmentally friendly facilities, and at Jericho we host worldclass local, international and charity regattas. Please contact Rochelle McKelvie at membership@royalvan.com to learn about the extensive list of benefits of membership at RVYC. Below is more detailed information about those benefits, including the Request for a Membership Application for adults, the Junior Division Application, and information on each of the Offshore Stations. Request for Membership Application Form This document contains the entrance fee for membership and monthly dues, and is the document a member would complete to start the process. The applicant may complete the majority of the information as long as the proposer and the seconder provide their member numbers on the second page. Please note that once we have the application in, we will contact the proposer or seconder with the interview schedule. The proposer or seconder must attend an interview with the prospective member, which will take place at the clubhouse with two of the Executive Committee members. The process is approximately 2.5 to 3.5 months depending on the interview date. Prospective members who have a spouse and would like their spouse to have privileges at the club should join as a Joint member with their spouse. In that case, the spouse is asked to attend the interview as well. Prospective members who do not yet know any members of the Club are invited to contact Rochelle at Membership@royalvan.com to discuss introductions. Junior Division Application Form The process is shorter than it is for adults with the junior becoming a member on the first day of the month following their interview. Information and registration for the Junior Training Program can be found here on the club’s website: http://www.royalvan.com/jtp. Outstation Information Guides These guides cover basic information regarding all seven outstations. We invite prospective new members to contact Victoria if they have any questions that are not covered in the guides that she may be able to answer.

A BIT MORE INFORMATION We also offer Adult Learn-to Sail programs, which are accessible here: http://www.royalvan.com/clubkeelboats There is an active social group called Active Intermediates, which is comprised of sailors and power boaters between the ages of 19 and 40. In addition to the above, the club offers paddleboard, kayaks and bicycles from Jericho clubhouse and bicycles only from Coal Harbour station. The Club offers three restaurants, two of which allow minors and one that is 19 years only. Coal Harbour’s Mermaid Inn is a delightful floating diner serving breakfasts and lunches that range from the classic standards to modern vegetarian and vegan specials. There is a deck and children’s play area on the deck. The Jericho Clubhouse has three floors. The garden level is home to the Star and Dragon, an all-ages restaurant that specializes in Mediterranean styled dishes and Neapolitan pizzas. The Star and Dragon hosts a kids’ buffet on Friday and Saturday nights from 4:30 pm for 8.00. Children who are 12 years old and older who are members may be in the restaurant on their own while parents dine upstairs in the Marine Lounge. The Marine Lounge is on the upper level of the clubhouse and is divided into two sections and a deck. Off the Model Room on the east side members can find the billiards room as well. The main level of the clubhouse is banquet facilities and large club events. This space is also used by members for private functions such as weddings and seminars. Come on down to the Clubhouse for a tour to see what thousands of Vancouverites have loved for over a century.

INFORMATION FOR PROPOSERS OF PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS The following procedures are conducted in order to obtain Adult Membership in the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. 1. The Proposer (not the Applicant) completes the “Request for Membership Application Form”. Members of the Executive Committee may not act as Proposer or Seconder. 2. When the form is completed, it is to be returned to the Membership department at the Jericho Clubhouse, in person or via email to membership@royalvan.com. 3. A credit check will then be carried out by the Office. 4. The Membership department will contact the Proposer to arrange an interview with two Members of the Executive, the Proposer and the Applicant (and the Applicant’s spouse should this be a Joint Membership application). The Proposer or Seconder may attend the interview along with the Applicant. The Interview Form will be completed by the Executive Members and returned to the Membership department. 5. At the first Executive Committee meeting after the interview, the Executive Committee members who interviewed the Applicant review the Applicant’s suitability for membership with the Executive Committee. 6. Providing the Request for Application is approved by the Executive Committee, the Applicant’s name is posted in the following Seabreeze and posted on the Club’s notice board until the following Executive Committee meeting. 7. If no adverse comments by existing Members result from the posting of the Applicant’s name, a Final Application form is then submitted to the Proposer and Applicant for completion by the Applicant and returned to the Membership department, together with the appropriate initial Entrance Fee. The Entrance Fee is based on the age of the Applicant on the date that the “Request for Membership” form was submitted, and will consider the Family Legacy program (33% discount) and Affiliate Spouse program (considering the age the applicant was when admitted as an Affiliate Spouse). 8. Upon return of the Final Application and payment of the initial Entrance Fee, the Application is presented at the next Executive Meeting by the Honorary Secretary. The Applicant’s name is presented to the Members of the Executive and elected into Membership of the Club. 9. The Applicant is then advised of the date of the next Orientation of the Clubhouse. New Members are provided with Yearbooks, Membership cards, a New Member burgee, New Member Survival Guide, guidance through all member documents, rules, and practices, and a complete tour of the Jericho Clubhouse.
