NEWSLETTER JULY/AUGUST 2017 “Don’t wait for inspiration, build the foundation for it.” Casey Williams, CE Tech John Redmond Lake, IPDT Team Member More Lake Office, Less District As the Park Ranger Mobile App evolves over time, more and more options are being added to the Lake Office Level of the App. Looking down the road and the way the App is currently set up, changes will be made in the future to move as much data from the district level of the App back into the lake level. On the Tulsa District App version, currently Recreation, Citations, Phone Book, Safety, & Policy exist. Eventually the plan is to dissolve all of these into the lake offices and just have the district level be a place to choose which lake office app you would like to access. Special Thanks to our PRMA Lake Office POC’s From the very beginning of the Park Ranger Mobile App in the Tulsa District, the program has been supported and developed by our awesome Lake Office POC’s. Whether their participation was just keeping the App alive at their lake office, fighting and showing support for the App in the District Office, or pushing the boundaries of what the App can do to better assist Park Rangers in the field, we would like to take this opportunity to recognize the awesome work of these folks who really help support and develop this program. Page 2 Coming down the PRMA pipeline. Coming in the Fall of 2017, Partnerships Live will be a one stop shop for everything for your Partnerships and Volunteers program in the palm of your hand. Search the live site for templates, guides, flowcharts, training, and other information. Or if you like to be interactive, ask questions from Alan and Nala who will be there with answers and are masters in both programs. Version 1 should be complete in late fall and should show up on your Lake Office menu when the module rolls out. In an attempt to nail down and streamline the accident/incident reporting procedures, this module will effectively grid out in a table what to do in situations where you have an accident or incident with either Corps Employees, Volunteers, or the general public. As this module is developed, it will move away from a table grid and become more interactive to field questions and tell you exactly what to report, when to report, what report to use, and what after actions are necessary. Look for this module in FY 2018. Ever wondered if you could actually get any official work done out of that smartphone that you carry around with you? Well it’s not going to happen with the processors that are in current smartphones. However, in FY 2018, PRMA will launch the “Do Work” tab at each lake office app site. This module is intended for tablets but can be accessed via smartphone. This module will consists of at least four tabs. The first will be a Corps Systems tab giving you access to all Corps systems in one place. Most of these will require a CAC card, so this function will only be available for tablets and laptops. The second tab will consist of helpful internet links that are job related and work specific. The third tab will be a video tab that will house helpful videos live in the field or anywhere you are and will cover the VERS program, OMBIL program, and any other program with how to videos. The fourth tab will consist of program information broken down by job function and will mirror the current information on the Tulsa District Park Ranger Network.

Page 3 Tablet Pilot in Full Swing With our Tablet Pilot fully deployed, there have been pros and cons to these new devices. So far, there have been so many issues with the setup of these devices that most users have not been able to run a proper pilot test. 5 out of 10 devices are still being worked on by Ace-it. Of the five that are working, there have only been minor issues (need to add programs, CAC reader errors, etc.). Other issues include getting the required adaptors and cords to hook up two screens for workstations as the ports are very different from a laptop docking station to a tablet docking station. With a rocky start to this pilot, there are still high hopes for all that we might be able to accomplish with these tablets or possibly other tablet versions that come available in the future. CONS: PROS: Testing great for boat dock inspections and outgrants. Great for Travel and Training using local Corps Wifi on location. Testing great for working Holiday Weekends. Very portable and is much easier to use out in the field than our current laptops. Had to get the tablet reimaged, twice. Google, Itunes, Amazon, and all App stores are locked out so you can’t get the Apps you need. No picture viewer software on device, opens all photos in MS Paint. Tablet will not read CAC Card 80% of the time. CAC card reader will not work if docked in docking station. VPN will not work on some devices, and ACE-it not sure why. Tablets Available in September According to a recent Ace-it News you can use article, the Dell Latitude Tablets will be available for purchase sometime in September of 2017 on Servicetrak. However, please see the Pros and Cons listed above and be prepared for any mishaps. Waiting for the pilot team to figure out all the issues and get the bugs worked out may be the best bet for the Tulsa District Lake Offices. There are clear advantages to these devices, but currently the setup process is complicated.

Page 4 Innovations: Season 2, 2017-2018 The Innovations Summit for Season 2 (2017 - 2018) has been proposed for October 10, 2017 at the Broken Arrow National Guard Armory. The team is currently accepting submissions for new team members and new ideas from across the Tulsa District to present at this years Summit. Deadline for new team member requests is August 15, while deadline for new innovative ideas are set for August 31. We are hoping to have another great season and build upon the momentum we have from last years team. Remember: If you are not willing to step up and change things, don’t complain about the way things are. Big Changes for Tulsa District Public App Take a good look at the current Tulsa District App that is available on both Google Play and Itunes for free download. Plans are in the works for a complete renovation to bring a much needed recreational spin on the App. In a meeting in late June, Operations and PAO got together to discuss the future needs and uses for the app. Most of the information on the current version is waterrelated links. However, with this new platform, we are go- ing to break both water information and recreation down by lake and make it more user friendly to the public by adding options to view campsites, get local weather radar, water releases, recreation opportunities and much more. Water safety will also have a new spin on the app including Bobber and friends. Look for this new app in FY 2018.
