This will be our 32nd year to host the original Race for the Cure and we are excited that you will be a part of the largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created. PARTICIPANT CENTER Your participant center has everything you need to personalize your own fundraising page, manage your Race team and find inspiration from numerous fundraising and recruiting resources. Each person who registers for the 2014 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure will have access to their own participant center, but as a team captain only you will have access to your team page. Understanding the most effective way to utilize the participant center is the key to creating bigger teams and raising more money in the fight against breast cancer. QUICK TIPS FEATURES INCLUDE: TEAM MANAGEMENT Include information about how donors can contibute in your email signature. Consider including the link to your participant center so donors can quickly and easily support your efforts. Set a fundraising goal for your team Customize your team home page with pictures, videos and information about why your team is participating Customize your team page URL to be unique to your group Post messages motivating your team members each time they log in Send invitation emails, using our templates or creating your own, asking others to join your team Email your team with progress toward goals, upcoming events and encouragement Increase your impact by keeping your costs low for team fundraisers. Think of possible items that can be donated. GOAL SETTING Goal setting is an important component for your team’s success. Inspire by example and set your team up for fundraising victories! (Fill in the following information) Team recruitment goal: (aim for at least 10 team members) Team fundraising goal: (aim for every person to raise at least 150 - average cost of a screening mammogram) TEAM GOAL SETTING Host a team kick off with all members to help build camaraderie and get others excited. The more cohesive your team is, the more successful you’ll be together! TEAM MANAGEMENT FUNDRAISING FUNDRAISING IDEAS Bake Sale Ask your friends, family and coworkers to show off their cooking talents and donate treats for a bake sale! Host the event at work, in your neighborhood, your local market or church! Yard Sale Collect items from your home and others that can be donated to your yard sale. Have all proceeds go to your Race team. You can even ask other people who have just held yard sales to donate what didn’t sell for your fundraiser! TIPS FOR RECRUITING TEAM MEMBERS Make a list of everyone you know who would be a great addition to your fundraising team Use email templates in your participant center to send communication to potential team members and donors Share the custom team URL for your team page on Facebook to encourage team membership Remember, this is a team effort - challenge each new team member to recruit others to join your fight against breast cancer Display your team posters at your office, church, gym – wherever you can! TIPS FOR TEAM BUILDING Remember, breast cancer affects everyone - be sure to embrace all groups in your team outreach, including men, seniors, teens and children Ask your employer to support your efforts by allowing your coworkers to donate 5 for a dress down day. Is your employer willing to cover the registration cost for you and your co-workers? Download our corporate discount form to create a code to use during registration we will bill your employer after the Race Reverse Raffle If you have a corporate or health care team, contact us directly to learn more about hosting a Race registration event or lunch and learn Include your custom team URL on all your social networking sites and email signatures Host your own team kick off to brainstorm fundraising ideas throughout Race season Communicate! Your job isn’t done when you reach your team member goal - continue weekly communications updating your team on any successes, important dates and progress toward your fundraising goal Jeans Day Host a party and give free raffles tickets to all attendees to raffle off really bad and compulsory prizes (head shave, have to sing a silly song in public – have fun with it). DATES DEADLINES REGISTRATION DEADLINES Registration price will increase from 35 to 40 on Saturday, October 11. To receive your Race packet in the mail, you must donate 5 to cover the mailing cost, otherwise you will need to pick up your Race packet in person at one of the designated locations (below). Register online before Friday, October 10 to receive your Race packet by mail. Komen Dallas County works year round to save lives by raising awareness and funding for breast cancer services and research, but we need your help to do more! This year, we are celebrating the everyday heroes in our community – breast cancer survivors, donors, advocates, medical personnel and co-survivors – who tirelessly fight to make a world without breast cancer a reality.
