James Kenney Park RenovationsJuly 8, 2019SECTION 01 71 23FIELD ENGINEERING (Construction Surveying)PART 1 - GENERAL1.1SECTION INCLUDESA.The Owner will retain the services of a registered Professional, authorized in the Stateof California to practice Land Surveying, to establish the alignment and elevation forsite improvements shown on the Civil Engineering drawings.The Owner will contract with the Professional to establish project control and to provide one set of construction stakes, which in the Owner’s judgment are necessary forthe Contractor to complete the following improvements1.Site clearing and pavement saw cut lines.2.Establish site rough grade.3.Sanitary sewer and related structures outside of the building.4.Storm drain and related structures outside of the building larger than 6-inches indiameter.5.Water lines outside of the building larger than 4-inches in diameter.B.1.2The Contractor is responsible for establishing the alignment and elevation for site improvements which are not included as an Owner furnished service.SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEWA.Maintain a complete accurate log of work performed for which the contractor is responsible. Record and report deviations from the required lines and levels to theOwner’s Representative. Submit Record Drawings and related documentation to theOwner’s Representative.B.The Owner’s Representative will provide the Contractor with request forms for construction stakes. The Contractor shall prepare a written staking request and providethe Owner’s Representative at least five (5) days before stakes will be used. Illegiblesurvey requests, requests without proper notifications, and those that lack pertinentinformation which are deemed deficient may delay Field Engineering. Welding Electrodes: As permitted by AWS A5.M. Galvanizing:1.Galvanize fabricated items as shown and specified after fabrication inaccordance with ASTM A123-09.2.Parts shall be made in suitable sections. First clean in a hot pickling bath toremove scale and then rinse clean with clear water. After pickling and washing,dip parts in liquid zinc tank sufficient length of time to heat parts to zinctemperature, then remove and allow to drip and cool; straighten as required.N. Non-Metallic Shrinkage Resistant Grout: Premixed, nonmetallic, non-corrosive, nonstaining, shrinkage resistant product containing selected silica sands, Portlandcement, shrinkage compensating agents, plasticizing and water-reducing agents,complying with CE-CRD-C621 and ASTM C1107, free of gas-producing or gasreleasing agents, oxidizing catalysts, inorganic accelerators and chlorides. Provide oneof the following:1."Five Star Grout" (U.S. Grout Corp.).2."Masterflow 713" (Master Builders Co.).3."Crystex" (L&M Construction Chemicals, Inc.).O. Fasteners and Anchorage Devices: Provide fasteners complying with the requirementsof Industrial Fasteners Institute standards. Type, grade, class and style best suited forthe respective purpose. Use countersunk flat-head Phillips type machine screws forexposed fasteners, except where Allen head screws are required. Use galvanizedsteel or stainless steel fasteners for exterior construction and for fastening componentsfabricated of galvanized steel except where specified otherwise. Assemblage: fit and shop assemble in largest practical sections for site delivery.V. Dissimilar Materials: Separate dissimilar materials with bituminous paint whereconcealed, with preformed separators, or similar method to prevent corrosion.2.2SPECIALLY FABRICATED PRODUCTSA. Handrails: Make all bar railings of milled steel unless noted otherwise; all connectionswelded. Where pipe railing are required, make from (1-1/2) outside diameter seamlesssteel pipe unless noted otherwise. Fabricate in largest sections feasible; all shopjoints welded; all field joints with concealed sleeves and pins.1.1.5” O.D. Steel Tube HSS1 1/2x0.12B. Handrail Design: Continuous railings conforming to applicable code and designrequirements. Construct to support a concentrated load of 250 lbs. Applied at anypoint and in any direction and for a uniform load of 50 lbs. Per foot applied in anydirection. The concentrated and uniform loading conditions shall not be appliedsimultaneously.2.3SHOP PAINTINGA. General:1.Shop paint miscellaneous metal work, except members or portions of membersto be embedded in concrete or masonry, surfaces and edges to be field weldedunless otherwise specified.2.Remove oil, grease and similar contaminants in accordance with SSPC SP-1"Solvent Cleaning", prior to any additional surface preparation specified.3.Clean and prepare metal surfaces before applying shop coat. Remove rust andmill scale in accordance with SSPC SP-3 "Power Tool Cleaning".4.Immediately after surface preparation, apply primer in accordance withmanufacturer's instructions. Use painting methods which will result in fullcoverage and dry film thickness specified.5.Apply one shop coat of primer to fabricated metal items, except apply 2 coats ofprimer to surfaces inaccessible after assembly or erection. In addition, apply oneshop coat of finish paint to entire surfaces of exterior loose lintels, shelf andrelieving angles, dunnage and other items as noted or specified. Change color ofsecond or finish coat to distinguish it from the first coat.6.Separate dissimilar metals with one coat of dielectric separator. Do not extendcoating onto exposed or finished surfaces.7.Application: Do not paint when ambient temperature is below 40 F. Paint in dryweather or under cover; paint over dry rust-free surfaces. Stir paint and keep atuniform consistency during application. Apply paint by brush or spray permanufacturer's directions to a dry film thickness of not less than 1.5 mils(approximately 370-375 SF of surface per gallon); do not thin paint in excess ofmanufacturer's recommendations.
