It was an immediate hit andhas continued to be one of the most popular American plays for over 70 years.The story revolves around the two charming old maid Brewster sisters. Abby andMartha pursue a mission of mercy by helping homeless and lonely men escapea life of sadness by poisoning them and burying the bodies in the cellar. Assistedby Teddy, a brother who believes he is Theodore Roosevelt, all goes well untilnephew Mortimer discovers one of the bodies. To further complicate matters, anunexpected visit by brother Jonathan, a serial killer, and his intoxicated friend, Dr.Einstein, throws the family into even more turmoil.Arsenic and Old Lace was the first production staged in our theatre at 300 W.Sandusky St. on October 17, 1968. It has presented four times at FFP: in 1968,1986, 2000 & 2010.Vicki McClurkin, director, and Sarah Olesky, producer, will be holding auditionsat the playhouse (300 W. Page 3FFP Goes to the Hancock County FairMaking its fourth appearance at the fair on Labor Day weekend, the FFPbooth was located in booth #49 in the Merchants Building.Visitors to the booth were treated to pictures and videos of pastperformances as well as a costume display. They could also register forour daily and grand prize raffles. Two tickets were given away daily forthe FFP production of Deathtrap. The lucky winners of these tickets wereCarolyn Chase, Katie Fleck, Josh Huff, Marsha McDaniel, Sue Williams,and Brian Wilt. The grand prize was a patron package for the 2018-2019season which was won by Nancy Stephani. Page 4University ofFindlayOrientationService ProjectIn August, during theUniversity of Findlayorientation weekend, newstudents, along with facultyand staff of the university,volunteer at many localnon-profit agencies,churches, and schools.The Orientation ServiceProject introduces allfirst-year students to thecommunity while meetingthe local community’sneeds at the same time.August 18 was the 15thannual Orientation ServiceProject for the Universityand the 12th year that FFPbenefited from this day.We had a morning andafternoon session thathelped with landscaping,mulching, painting,costumes, set building,props, and tighteningloose seats in theauditorium. Page 5“OCTA Rocks”By Shirley Nebergall,FFP’s OCTA Delegate“OCTA Rocks” was the theme for this year’s OhioCommunity Theatre Association annual conference.Thespians from Ohio and beyond gathered over the LaborDay weekend in Worthington, Ohio, at the Crowne PlazaNorth to celebrate OCTA’s 65th anniversary.There were 363 people registered for the weekend with 120of those being first-time attendees. They could watch 14excerpts invited to perform at state from the 41 presented atthe six regionals held over the courseFFP membersof the summer. After each excerpt, aattendingthis year’spanel of three adjudicators each gaveOCTAConferencethree-minute critiques to the cast andwere: Andrew Conway,crew. These critiques often includeJordan Gottschalk,ways that could possibly improve theSamantha Henry,production. On Sunday evening there was a banquet, as well asa 50s dance, costume contest, and games.At the Monday breakfast buffet, awards were presented for allareas of theater. FFP’s season brochure, designed by Brad &Erica Bickhart, received a Merit in Brochure Design. Theplayhouse’s website, created by J.R. Smith and maintainedby J.R. Smith and George Rustemeyer, received awards forMerit in use of Graphics, Excellence in Use of OCTA Logo,and Outstanding in Digital Content. In my role as Fortelleditor, I received awards for Excellence in OCTA News,Outstanding in Use of Graphics and Photography,Outstanding in Masthead Design and Layout, Outstanding inWriting and Overall Quality, and 1st Place Overall NewsletterDesign.In my role as OCTA Delegate, I received an award forOutstanding Delegate of the year for the NW Region. Severalawards were received by other NW theaters and the NWRegion will berepresented at the AACT(American Association ofCommunity Theaters)Regional III Festivalin Kokomo, Indiana inApril of 2019 with theActors CollaborativeToledo production ofA Life by Adam Bock.The finale of the luncheon on Monday was the presentationof the theme for the 2019 state conference to be held inPerrysburg, Ohio, at the Hilton Garden Inn (6165 LevisCommons Blvd.) and Owens Center for Fine and PerformingArts (30335 Oregon Rd Perrysburg, Ohio 43551) over theLabor Day weekend (August 30 – September 2).The theme is “OCTA Seasonsof Love”, and is hosted by theNorthwest Region, with JesseBernal and Michelle Johnson asco-conference chairs. Over thecourse of the weekend, we willcelebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Fourth of July, Halloween,Christmas, New Year’s Eve (with a ball drop and a toast),and Valentine’s Day (best Valentine’s box will win an award).There will be two costume contests (Halloween and NewYear’s baby/Father Time), so there arelots of options on what to wear!There will be several options onRegistering: with or without meals, with orwithout excerpts, everything but meals, ora full package.
