FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL AND THE CHAIR OF THE BOARDDear ISB Community,It is with a great sense of achievement and pride that we present you the Annual Reportfrom the 2012–2013 school year, having successfully completed the 50th year of bilingualeducation at the International School of Boston.We are proud of this longevity. This adventure, which startedmodestly with only three students in a basement in 1962,has led us to where we are today, with over 600 students on2 campuses. But numbers are certainly not the determiningfactor of our success. The vision, the tenacity, the talent, thecommitment and the generosity of the past generations havegiven our school a strong foundation on which to continue tobuild for the future.In 2012 and 2013, we successfully completed a shortfundraising campaign (initially envisioned to take at leasttwo years) for the new Media-Center and Library and wecollected 600,000, half of the funds required to completeits construction and renovation. In addition, the springof 2013 was the occasion to launch a new campaign forthe renovation of part of the Lower School, including theenlargement of the music room.These successes are remarkable for what in fact is a veryyoung school in comparison to many others in New England.But despite our success, challenges remain. First amongthem is the challenge of maintaining the excellence of ourprograms. The educational landscape is constantly changingand academic excellence requires continuous development,whether it is professional development of our faculty ordevelopment of our facilities and technology. We havecome a long way in a short time. DE LA PART DU CHEF D’ÉTABLISSEMENT ET DU PRÉSIDENT DU CONSEIL D’ADMINISTRATIONChère Communauté du LIB,C’est avec un sentiment de devoir accompli et de fierté que nous vous présentons leRapport Annuel 2012–2013, après les célébrations réussies du 50ème anniversaire del’enseignement bilingue du Lycée International de Boston.Nous sommes fiers de cette longévité. Cette aventure,qui a modestement démarré avec seulement 3 élèvesdans le sous-sol d’une maison en 1962, nous a menéoù nous sommes aujourd’hui, avec plus de 600 élèvessur deux campus. Mais les chiffres ne sont certainementpas l’élément déterminant de notre succès. La vision,la ténacité, le talent, l’engagement et la générosité desgénérations passées ont bâti les solides fondations surlesquelles construire notre avenir.Ces succès sont remarquables pour notre école qui estencore jeune, comparée à beaucoup d’autres en NouvelleAngleterre. Mais ces succès ne doivent pas masquer lesdéfis à venir. Le premier d’entre eux consiste à maintenirl’excellence de nos programmes. Le paysage éducatifévolue constamment et l’excellence académique requiertdes adaptations régulières, qu’il s’agisse de la formationprofessionnelle de nos enseignants ou de l’avancée denos infrastructures et technologies. Nous avons beaucoupavancé en peu de temps. Nous sommes propriétairesde nos bâtiments du campus de Cambridge et, grâce ausoutien de vous tous, nous avons apporté de remarquablesaméliorations à nos infrastructures. Notre nouvelle aire dejeux, notre laboratoire de mathématiques, notre laboratoirede sciences, la rénovation complète du 4ème étage, tout celaa été financé par vos dons.Notre généreuse communauté n’oublie pas pour autant lesracines de l’école : notre maternelle d’Arlington. C’est avecune immense gratitude que nous acceptons le don de Ginaet René Robert, alumnus du LIB, d’une valeur de 124 610 ;le don le plus important que nous ayons jamais reçu.En 2012–2013, nous avons mené à bien une courtecampagne de levée de fonds (initialement prévue sur deuxans) pour notre médiathèque et bibliothèque et nous avonscollecté 600 000, la moitié des fonds nécessaires à laconstruction de cet espace. FROM THE CO-CHAIRS OF THE PARENTS AND TEACHERS ORGANIZATION (PTO)Dear ISB Community,This year, we were privileged to lead a dedicated team of fourteen parents and teachers,alongside countless volunteers who helped organize over twenty enrichment activities forour children, as well as community and fundraising events throughout the school year.The level of commitment and enthusiasm that so manymembers of our community bring to our school wasextraordinary and we are profoundly thankful for theirinvolvement.Year after year, the largest contributors to the PTO’sincome is the popular Bread and Bakery Sale and theannual fee. Sizeable fundraisers are our popular HolidayBaskets Silent Auction, and, for the first time this past year,“Flower Power”, a flower bulb sale in which our studentsparticipated enthusiatically.Our whole school party “A Night in Venice” left a lastingimpression on over 350 participants of all ages who dinedand danced in a cheerful atmosphere. For the first time ever,our ISB Springfest became an exhibition of internationalart and culture, of which our school has so much to show.The traditional Holiday Boutique gathered more than 40exhibitors. The PTO supported “La Grande Dictée de laFrancophonie”, volunteering time and sponsoring prizes, and“Le Printemps des Poètes”, where our unique communitygot a chance to celebrate a wide and diverse selection ofpoetry and art.There is no more fulfilling reason for the PTO’s existencethan the enrichment activities. The 20 shows selectedincluded a Chinese New-Year celebration with acrobatsin Maternelle, a one-week music composition workshop andconcert with Eric John Kaiser for Lower School, a civil rightsassembly with author David Greenberg for Middle Schooland the play “Servant of Two Masters”, by Carlo Goldoni, forour Upper Schoolers.Part of the PTO funds have also been applied to buyingbicycles and tricycles for our little ones, cameras for allLower School classes, more books and audio material forour Middle School, and tablets for the Upper School’s newtablet initiative.The purpose of all elected members of the PTO leadershipteam was to give our best to our school community. Nous vous en sommes profondémentreconnaissants.Nos plus gros revenus ont été, encore une fois, les fruits desventes de pain et de viennoiseries, des cotisations annuellesdes familles, de la vente aux enchères de nos magnifiquesPaniers des Fêtes et, pour la première fois cette année, du« Pouvoir des Fleurs », une vente porte-à-porte de bulbesde fleurs à laquelle nos élèves ont participé avec beaucoupd’enthousiasme.La Grande Soirée du PTO sur le thème « Une Soiréeà Venise » laissera de bons souvenirs à plus de 350participants de tous âges ! Notre kermesse annuelle s’esttransformée en Springfest Internationale, une expositiond’arts, de cultures et de traditions de tous les horizons, àl’image de notre communauté.« La Boutique des Artistes », désormais une tradition dutemps des fêtes, a accueilli plus de 40 exposants.
