Dear Friends and Colleagues,We are very pleased to welcome you to the opening symposium ofthe new Einstein Center for Neurosciences in Berlin! For us this Center means another crucial and exciting steptowards developing Berlin as a hub of neuroscientific researchwith international visibility. Our mission is to bring together the subdisciplines in the fieldof neurosciences to create a scientific landscape for integrativeand interactive research. In doing so, our main aim is to attractexcellent young researchers from around the world, encouragetheir ideas and train them in an interdisciplinary PhD program. We are convinced that investing in the interdisciplinary educationof excellent young students will create a new generation ofscientists with a comprehensive understanding of the complexityof neuroscientific research. We are extremely delighted to welcome as speakers at ouropening symposium so many highly renowned and influentialneuroscientists who have already shaped our understandingof how the brain works – and we are excited to celebrate thisimportant event together. We are looking forward to many interesting and inspiring talks, and to sharing new perspectives and visions for the neurosciencesfor the future.Dietmar SchmitzCoordinator, Einstein Center for Neurosciences Berlin3
