FOREWORD14booksmore than130articlesover190presentationsInnovative, International, Interdisciplinary —the scholarly work of AUP faculty brings theworld’s important questions to students, bothinside and outside the classroom. This booklet presents the AUP facultyachievements for 2017 and demonstratesthe richness and breadth of faculty’sscholarship. AUP faculty research coversa wide array of subjects of broad impactaddressing, often through interdisciplinaryapproaches, pressing world questions andscholarly inquiries. The creative productionof AUP faculty is socially engaged andimmersed in the international artistic arena.Faculty and student collaborations producean environment that is inquisitive, creative, and rigorous; where new ideas can begenerated and flourish, different methods ofinquiry are respected, and a variety ofexperiences, beliefs and expectations canconstructively coexist, confront each otherand contribute to the vibrant intellectualenvironment of our community. The AUP faculty achievements illustrate notonly their commitment to research but also theways in which their research impacts studentlearning and fosters AUP’s mission to providea student-centered, career-enabling, andtransformative learning environment, empowering students to cross both disciplinaryand cultural borders with ease in order toassume their places in the world. At AUP, we view research andteaching on a continuum, suchthat both knowledge creation andtransmission are informed by eachof these.AUP Strategic Plan 2015 - 2020William FisherProvost2 FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS 20171
