The syllabus does not constitute a contract between the studentand the instructor or the College. Though changes are possible, it is expected that thecourse will be conducted as described in this syllabus.Course Information:Course Title: CADD 1650 – REVIT FundamentalsCredits: 3Class Hours: 2 class hours, 2 lab hoursCourse Description:A “hands-on” class that explores the fields of designing and presenting ideas with Revit software, aBuilding Information Management (BIM) system. Topics include the concepts and principles of 3-Dparametric software in designing architectural projects. Use of the 3-D design process in creating andrevising architectural designs is emphasized. Be familiar with AutoDesk REVIT products (Architecture, Structure, and Systems) that make upREVIT Architecture.2. Understand REVIT and its use as a BIM (building information modeling) platform.3. Have a working knowledge of the REVIT interface, project templates, drawing tools, families,components, and their modification.4. Be familiar with presentation to architectural standards (plan view, section, elevation, callouts,schedules, and 3D views.5. Create and modify Revit based projects to an intermediate level.Course Objectives/Course Competencies:The following are intended to support the course outcomes:1. A basic level of computer literacy of the Windows environment is expected. The student shouldknow how to open files, save files and follow a path to a file either on a hard disk or on aremovable storage device.Topics to Be Covered:1. Introduction to BIM, and REVIT Architecture2. Project setup REVIT Interface Options Bar, Project Browser, Properties Palette, QAT, Ribbon,Tabs, Tool bars, Window Tile, Zoom3. Design and Editing Architectural Plans using Revit Including Foundations, Walls, Roof and otherArchitectural elements,4. Sheet Layout and PrintingCourse Assessments:The following performance assessments will be used to demonstrate students’ understanding,knowledge, and skills:1. Students will be assessed on their ability to perform “hands on” creation of design exercisesevaluated on accuracy, clarity, and techniques learned in this program.2. Students will be assessed on their retention of learned materials through written or “hands on”designs for testingGrading Policy:If you cannot take a test when scheduled, you must notify the instructor and make arrangements to takethe test prior to the scheduled date. Homework not turned in on time is subject to a 25% gradereduction. Homework will not be accepted if more than one week late or after an assignment has beenreturned to the class, whichever comes sooner. Homework should reflect your understanding of thesubject, not that of your classmates. There will be no makeup on missed labs. Make every effort toattend every lab.

Absences in a course may affect a student’s final grade. Tardiness may also affect a student’s final grade. Students are responsible for all work/tests that occur during any missed class session(s)regardless of reason(s) for absence. Students who are sick or not well enough to attend class must notify the instructor as soon aspossible before the scheduled class time, unless incapacitated or unable to do so. In that case,students must contact the instructor as soon as reasonably possible. If a student has an unavoidable conflict with a scheduled class session, students must notify theinstructor, preferably before the class session, or as soon as possible.For purposes of financial aid continued attendance is determined via engagement in the course. This canbe accomplished in several ways including, but not limited to, continued attendance and/orparticipation in on-ground class sessions, participating in D2L as prompted (e.g., responding to aninstructor’s email, posting to a discussion board), and/or completing and submitting assignments.)To the extent that attendance is kept in this class it is not for the purpose of the College but is insteadassociated with the instructor’s individual grading rubric. academic calendar available on the Nashville State web site, looking for the date that indicates it is the“Last Day to Earn F for Attendance (FA).” Students who stop attending on or before this date receive anFA; students who stop attending after this date receive an F.For online courses, attendance is defined by submission of assignments. Students who fail a course andwhose last assignment is submitted on or before the FA date will earn an FA for the course. Studentswho fail a course and whose last assignment is submitted after the FA date will earn an F for the course.An FN is assigned to students who do not submit any assignments.(While the above information should appear in all syllabi, faculty are encouraged to make additionalstatements that would clarify the policy for students and provide the applicable FA date for theirsection.)FNAn FN is awarded to students who never attended class.Technology Statement All classes at the College are web enhanced.It will be essential for students to have access to a computer and an internet connection tocomplete assignments, engage in online discussions, and access various course materialsthrough D2L/NS Online course shells.Students may also be required to use free video conferencing platforms (ex: Zoom, Teams) forclasses and meetings.Students will be responsible for appropriate dress while on video, to ensure a distraction freeenvironment (mute sound as needed) and to ensure their background is neutral for others toview.If you have questions or concerns regarding access to a computer or internet resources, pleasecontact your instructor. In addition to other possible disciplinary measures that may beapplied through regular college procedures as a result of academic dishonesty, the instructor has theauthority to assign an “F” or a “zero” for the exercise, paper, or examination, or to assign an “F” for thecourse. Check D2L/NS Online for a message from your instructor regarding your onlineassignment requirements. Faculty have discretion over adjusting deadlines or due date for assignments,but students are responsible for completing all assigned work by the due date established by theinstructor.Class Cancellation PolicyIf the class is cancelled, the instructor will notify all students by posting in the D2L/NS Online course, emailing through D2L/NS Online, and/or by posting a sign on the classroom door. In the event of classcancellation, students must access D2L/NS Online to complete classwork and the assignment that will beposted in the course D2L site.
