Power Circuit BreakersSquare D Masterpact NW and NT Power Circuit Breakers – 100 A to 6,300 AGlobal Standards UL 489 listed, including 4-polethrough 6,000 A UL 1066 listed/ANSI C37.13 IEC certified CE markedMasterpact NW circuit breakers feature amodular design and provide a commonarchitecture, versus a model-by-modelapproach. That means they use commonaccessories, a single door cutout for theentire line, and a single size that fits 100 Ato 3,000 A (UL 489).In addition, we’ve reduced the necessarydistance above the circuit breaker to zero, thanks to an arc chute cover in the drawoutversions. This makes Masterpact NW circuitbreakers easier to design into new andretrofit applications.Masterpact NT power circuit breakers arethe latest addition to the Masterpact line tomeet your needs where small size, flexibleconfiguration, low maintenance, increasedproductivity and reduced downtime arekey issues. These fully-tested, drawout circuit breakersfeature four racking positions (connected, test, disconnected and removed) and a statusindicator on the cradle. Masterpact NT circuitbreakers have the smallest footprint availableon the market today – 70% smaller than theMasterpact NW circuit breaker.Combined with the Power-Zone 4 switchgearand the Power-Style QED-6 switchboard, theMasterpact NT is the most competitive powercircuit breaker on the market today. In addition, both the Masterpact NT andNW circuit breakers incorporate the latestadvances in breaker technology, includinginterchangeable Micrologic trip units withPowerLogic power metering, communicationand monitoring capabilities.Factory- and Field-Installed Accessories Push button lock Open position padlock and key lock provisions Disconnected position lock Door interlock Racking interlock between racking crank andOFF position Open door racking interlock Automatic spring discharge mechanism Rail padlock Mechanical operation counter Shutter and shutter lock Door escutcheon Transparent cover for door escutcheon[1] Masterpact NW circuit breaker[2] Masterpact NT circuit breaker6 I Quality and Innovation for Global SolutionsCourtesy of Steven Engineering, Inc.-230 Ryan Way, South San Francisco, CA 94080-6370-Main Office: (650) 588-9200-Outside Local Area: (800) 258-9200-www.stevenengineering.com

Arc Flash Protection with Masterpact NWand NT Circuit BreakersDesigned to interrupt large fault currents withoutfuses, Masterpact NW and NT circuit breakersgo into current-limiting mode at 35,000 A. Thesecircuit breakers provide arc flash protectioncomparable to fuses at high currents and betterarc flash protection at lower currents. Plus, theyeliminate problems common to fused switchesand fused circuit breakers, including: Hazards associated with changing fuses Dependence on mechanical hardware(fuse holders, blown fuse indicators, antisingle-phasing devices, etc.) that requiremaintenance or replacement, or can dislodge, causing arcing eventsContactsArc ChuteMoving ArmU-MagnetBlow-open TerminalThe design of this circuit breaker is currentlimiting. Because of the mass of parts involved tocarry large currents, this design is not as fast assmaller current-limiting circuit breakers, but it iscomparable to fuse limiters. High energy costs due to additional resistancein the fuse holder and connections Large equipment footprints High installation and service-life costs The need to stock and replace fusesArc Flash Circuit BreakersThe design of the Masterpact NW current-limitingcircuit breaker is unique to the industry. It isavailable in both current-limiting designs and inwithstand construction “blow closed” designs tomeet your application requirements. The drawing at the right shows a cross-sectionview of one pole of the circuit breaker. Theshaded areas constitute the current path. Theblow-open terminal is shaped so there is areverse current loop at the moving arm. Thisreverse current flow creates a magnetic forcethat is proportionate to the amount of current. When the current is high enough, the forcepushes open the contacts. The contacts openvery quickly, without waiting for the mechanismto unlatch and the springs to pull the movingarm open. The U-magnet, which intensifies themagnetic opening force, is located between thefolds of the blow-open terminal where the currentloop is found. What is an Arc Flash?According to NFPA 70E, an arc flash is a“dangerous condition associated with therelease of energy caused by an electrical arc.”It is measured in terms of arc flash incidentenergy (AFIE), which is used to determine thelevel of personnel protection equipment (PPE),and in terms of an arc flash protection boundary. One World, One Source I 7Courtesy of Steven Engineering, Inc.-230 Ryan Way, South San Francisco, CA 94080-6370-Main Office: (650) 588-9200-Outside Local Area: (800) 258-9200-www.stevenengineering.com

Square D PowerPact ElectronicMotor Circuit ProtectorPowerPact electronic motor circuit protectors(MCP) offer simple solutions that deliver morereliable start-ups, provide better protection foryour equipment, and adjust for a wide range ofyour motor starters. The unique design of PowerPact MCPs includetwo dials to allow quick and confident adjustmentof settings based on the characteristics of themotor. The first dial allows for full load amperes(FLA) adjustment across the range of the framesize, while the second dial selects the type ofmotor protection based on Automatic 1 forStandard Energy Efficiency or Automatic 2 forHigh Energy Efficiency. Dial 2 also allowsfor traditional motor protection from eight to13 times the selected FLA.These simple adjustments are all you need toensure your motor circuit is set to the in-rushcharacteristics of the motor and is a fully NationalElectrical Code (NEC ) compliant installation. This product has a number of significantadvantages in managing your facility’smotorized equipment:More Reliable Start-up of Your EquipmentMotor in-rush creates many problems forsizing and setting the circuit breaker in motorcircuits. The high in-rush demands of energyefficient motors can create nuisance tripping orinstallations that are not NEC compliant. ThePowerPact MCP has instantaneous trip pointsthat align with the motor and NEC to ensure yourinstallation works every time.Better Equipment Protection and SafetyThe PowerPact MCP provides for quick anddecisive tripping when your motor exceedsits current limitations, improving the longevityof your equipment. This eliminates a commonmisapplication that occurs when instantaneoustrip points are adjusted too far above the motor’slocked rotor current, in order to avoid nuisancetripping on high in-rush currents. The mechanismis also designed to ensure that the handle ofthe breaker provides positive indication that thecontacts are in the ON, OFF or tripped position.High SCCR RatingThe PowerPact MCP also helps achieve the highShort Circuit Current Ratings (SCCR) needed tomeet recent code changes for industrial controlpanels. They deliver up to 100 kA at 480 V SCCRrating when used in combination with Square DNEMA or Schneider Electric IEC motor starters.Lower Life Cycle CostThis product delivers high performance levelsand precise adjustment for a wide variety ofmotor circuits. It also eliminates the need tostock the wide variety of fuses required to keepyour equipment running.Easier InstallationWith a wide adjustment range, there is noneed to swap devices to cover the horsepowerrange of a starter. For example, the 30 A MCPhas an FLA adjustment range of 1.5 A to 27 A,covering the entire range of NEMA size 00, 0and 1 starters. The settings align directly withinformation published on the motor nameplate.Likewise, just five MCPs cover the completerange from 1/2 HP to 200 HP at 480 V.Settings for Standardor Energy-Efficient MotorsThe automatic setting on the PowerPact MCP allowsfor a transient motor in-rush to safely clear beforealigning the protection to the motor’s locked rotorcurrent.
