News from the Principal – Genelle GoldfinchDear parents and caregiversEducation Week ‘Learning Together’ – Week 3What a fantastic week! There was lots of exciting hands-on activities, engagement in deep learning andlots of smiles. The Art Exhibition was a highlight again in 2020. Students created stunning artworks focusedon Australia what we have been through as a nation and learnt together in the past 12 months, in regardsto drought and fire, with incorporation of Aboriginal Art style and forms. Thanks to all staff for the amazingopportunities you provided for the students.They say a picture is worth a thousand words hope you enjoy.

News from the Principal – Genelle Goldfinch2021 Kindergarten EnrolmentsIf you have a child who is turning five or six next year, please contact the front office to collect an enrolmentform. Kindergarten Transition is on hold at the moment due to COVID restrictions but families withcompleted paperwork will be contacted by letter if this changes. If you have neighbours or friends living inthe area with children who will be attending Fairfield West Public School in 2021, please advise them tocontact the school office on 9604 5568 to enrol their child.Support Unit PlaygroundOver the last holidays the support unit playground has had an upgrade, wonderful new synthetic grass hasbeen put down over the entire playground and new fences have been installed. This has transformed thearea and made it a great place to learn and play, many of our students are happily using the playgroundon a daily basis. The school contributed 25,000 towards this project, the other 20000 was obtainedthrough a successful grant submission from the Local School Community Fund, chaired by Chris Bowen.Our students are really enjoying their new playground!STAFF LEARNINGNot only do the students spend their days learning, but so do all the staff at FWPS. Over the past twoweeks staff members have participated in the following professional learning opportunities, mostlyremotely: External Validation Peer Principal – Principal Half day Language, Learning and Literacy – one early stage 1 and three stage 1 teachers Two hours Teach Meet session - three early stage 1 teachers and one Instructional Leader Full Day Gifted and Talented Leadership – one Instructional Leader One hour Educyte learning – six teachers Three hours Cork to Canvas – 12 stage 2 teachers Effective Reading Phonics – 7 early stage 1 teachers and one Deputy PrincipalAll staff professional learning ensures that the highest quality of education is provided to all students atFWPS.I hope you have a lovely weekend!Genelle GoldfinchI respect and acknowledge Aboriginal People as the traditional owners of the land on which I work, live and visit.

Student LearningAs part of the education week art display,2L were encouraged to create art worksinspired by the bushfires that devastatedparts of Australia in 2019-2020. We drewinspiration from an ode by Andrew Guildthat was written to acknowledge and thankAustralian firefighters. Our artwork depictsthe hope and mateship of Australians as wework together torebuild what waslost during thebushfires. As a class, we explored the coloursand movement of flames. We additionallyincluded the Indigenous dot paintingtechnique we have been learning in class.We enjoyed our visit from Peter Dawe whopresented lots of interesting informationabout native plants and the ways they havebeen utilised by Indigenous Australians forthousands of years. We were then given thechance to explore our very own Aboriginal garden located in ourschool playground.

Student LearningK-6B had some funparticipating in our MathsAmazing Race last week!During education week, K-6Bcreated some art works to puton display for the artexhibition. Here are ourAboriginal artworks that weare so proud of.On the same day, we alsoparticipated in some scienceexperiments. So manyvolcanic eruptions!We were so disappointed tohear our athletic carnival wascancelled. That didn’t stop usfrom practising for the nextmain event though. Look atus go!
