Thistranslates to an annual growthof 4.9 percent over the nexttwelve years. For the last threeyears HCCC has exceeded thisannual growth rate.In light of the nationalfocus on completions, NewJersey’s community collegestrustees and presidents unveiledthe Big Ideas Project in 2010.They all agreed that the community colleges should pursueresearch to find the best ideasto promote sustainability, maintain or improve quality, and more importantly improvestudent success.Current completion ratemetrics for colleges do notaccount for students who persist to earn degrees after thespecified time period (e.g., twoyears, three years, or fouryears) and do not count parttime students or transfer students who go on to earn degrees. As part of the Big Ideasinitiative the New Jersey Community College InstitutionalResearch Officers are developing a Student Success Modelthat will identify what data isneeded to assess student success and develop an implementation plan for collecting andsharing student success data.
