Leeds December NewsWell its cold, wet, and gettingmiserable it must be Christmas, bah,snively bah humbug!Actually I quite like Christmas and I haverellies (of sorts) coming over fromAustralia so I hope that you all have asmuch fun and Christmas snuggleiness as Iintend to have! And to help withChristmas cheer HASSRA Leeds is againrunning a Christmas raffle for HASSRALeeds members (and HASSRA membersbased in Leeds). To take part all youneed to do is be a member well andmake sure you put your name in ofcourse – see page 10 for more on thefantastic prizes and an application form.So what have we got for you in thisfestive edition!? Well I’m going to startwith member benefits – and these aren’tonly the fantastic raffle, oh no, we haveso much more. This month I’m going tohighlight something that we might allneed post-Christmas bulge, and that’s apersonal trainer and nutritionist. Would you like to be a part of a happier, healthierworkplace environment? Do you want to getinvolved in swimming but need that extra push?HASSRA are workingwith the AmatuerSwimming Association(ASA), the governingbody for swimming,on an Active Workplaces project. Theaim of the project is to gatherevidence which then looks at theimpact on reducing absenteeism,increasing productivity and betterpromotion of a flexible workingculture.In order to provide an accurateevidence based resource foremployers, the ASA will be piloting anActive Workplace initiative withHASSRA members to assess the extentto which swimming can have a directinfluence on work place wellness.By introducing an ‘aquatic month’ atthe close of 2012, the ASA willpromote swimming to all HASSRAmembers within the department and,following the completion of a shortsurvey, assess whether an increase inphysical activity leads to less illnessand sick days, provides a happierworking environment and helpsemployees to be more productive atwork.In addition, during this time HASSRAmembers taking part in the surveywho swim 4 times at the Form will beentitled to a 5th swim free.So if you’re interested in taking part inthe survey and using swimming offersplease contact Laura Duffin atlaura.duffin@swimming.org We willthen email to you a copy of the surveyto complete and then return - to helpus with our research. The period of thestudy will last from 17th November to17th December 2012. A relatively easy walk up to Burley Moor providing some delightful views overthe Wharfedale valley, once again with the sole aim of justifying lunch.The route climbs gently from the Hermit Inn towards Carr Bottom Reservoir and follows a circular route affordingsplendid views on a clear dayClothingAlthough the walk is short you should be prepared for wet and cold weather and boots are essential as parts ofthe walk involve class B HASSRA mud. You may wish to bring a change of clothes for the pub which asks thatno muddy boots be worn.Meeting point and timeMeet in the car park to the Hermit pub, (Grid ref. Explorer Map 297: 447155) at 10:00 for a prompt 10:15 start.TransportBy car: To Burley in Wharfedale and follow the Station signs. Go past the Station to the very top of the road andturn left.
