Knight LifeThe Official Publication of Father Rosensteel Council #2169Find us on Facebook at “Rosensteel Council”Vol. 80, No. 4, April 2014CHAPLAIN’SCORNERFr. José CortesThe Blind ManJesus cured a man who was bornblind from his blindness. It is hard to imagine the extraordinary experience that theman had! For the very first time, he sawcolors, faces, sky and clouds, trees andbirds. How different the world was after hisencounter with Jesus!A miracle also happened to us. Wealso passed from darkness to light, as didthe blind man. When did it happen to us? Ithappened to us on the day of our baptism. However, our blindness persists. It is hardfor us to see Jesus present in our lives. Weparticipate in a secular mentality that doesnot accept God as someone who is close tous. Certainly, we all believe in God. However, there are so many times when we liveas if He did not exist. At least, we considerHim as secondary. Our interests come first. Why does this happen? Perhaps itis because we think that if we let God enterour lives more, we'd risk losing something.Basically, we feel that God is against us.This suspicion began with our first parentsin Paradise. It is the encounter with Christ thatconquers our spiritual blindness. It brings anew light to our lives: a new vision of reality. After the encounter with Christ, we startseeing things in a different way; our perceptions of ourselves, people and things changeradically. We see things in a way that wenever saw them before! We start havingthe same vision that Jesus has.Let us ask Jesus to heal our blindness and give us His vision of reality!Fr. Marge Fait301-598-7064“Apple Fritters”, he answered. What was the questionand who was he? In the 1870'sSamuel Clements (aka MarkTwain) made a trip of severalmonths duration through Western Europe. Since he was aman of the American Midwest,he was unable to obtain thefoods and deserts he relishedthe most. When he was askedwhich desert he missed, he wasvery emphatic that it was applefritters and also peach or pumpkin pie. When did you last have an apple fritter? You will findthem available at our local Starbucks coffee shops. Perhaps we canpersuade some of our Maryknight's bakers to prepare some for theFriday Night Dinners. It's still a delicious dessert.Beware “April Fool's Day” when pranks, hoaxes, and practicaljokes may befall you. This day has been called by different names, but is common among Western countries. Some of the most celebrated hoaxes include the BBC News announcing a great SpaghettiHarvest in Switzerland. In 1996 Taco Bell announced in the N.Y.Times that it had purchased the Liberty Bell and would rename itthe Taco Bell. The Maryknights are serving a dinner for Catholic students at theUniversity of Maryland on April 9th. This is a very commendableand worthwhile endeavor for our young children who are at schooland far from their Mom's home cooked meals. Why not contactMarge Cuff and see if you can help in some way.?Speaking of help– by now you know that the council has formeda committee to oversee a fundraising campaign that is earmarkedfor the facility’s upkeep. Many of the Retirees no longer pay duesbut that doesn’t mean we can’t contribute our fair share. Pleaseconsider all the socializing we do here. The friends and family weconnect with here. What can you do to help keep this valuable resource from disappearing? Please give as generously as your meansallow. Checks can be made to the Forest Glen Building Association.Write CIF in the memo section and given to George Carter or anyCIF committee member.Palm Sunday is on the 13th. This is a Sunday Mass we all enjoyparticularly since the winter is over and signs of the new Springseason are everywhere. In the afternoon the Sister's of the Poor arehaving their annual Tea & Tulips Fundraiser. It is always very wellattended and if you are interested you may wish to call them: 202269-1831.Our club's bowling league is progressing along as strong as everat the White Oak Lanes. Who is in 1st Place? Who is in 2nd Place? The competition is heating up as the season nears the end. Anything can happen in the final weeks so lets cheer on your favoriteteam. The Bowling Banquet will be held at the end of the season.Do you know why there are two red Cardinal's hats suspendedon lines from the ceiling toward the rear of St. Matthew's Cathedral? It's an interesting sight not normally seen by most visitors. Ifyou are the first person to answer this question correctly to one ofthe club officers you will receive a prize at next month's luncheon. This month's luncheon will be on April 22nd, the 4th Tuesday ofthe month as usual.VP Tom LeonardThis month ourfirst order of business is abig shout out to Beth Torp,Chaplain .
