WALK-A-MILEWalk-a-MileThe annual Walk-A-Mile event was held on Wednesday, August 31. Hosted by IFC and SAC and includedcollege students from all walks of life. Samantha Reyes, a spokeswoman for the Wichita Area Sexual AssaultCenter (WASAC), read a chillingly powerful excerpt from the letter of the Stanford rapist survivor as part ofher impactful speech. The walk was led by tottering police officers, Hess Albert (WSU PD), Chad Agnew(WSU PD) and Nate Schwiethale (WPD). Many college students followed in their wake, walking the entire mileas it rained; stopping in introspection at way points with sexual assault statistics posted. “We have survivors inour community, but people think, ‘we’re Wichita, we’re a small place in the world, it doesn’t happen here,’ but itdoes. It happens everywhere,” said Luke Mohr, an organizer for the event. Every step down the road topreventing sexual violence is a necessary one, and Walk-A-Mile is a step WSU students take every fall.
