During 1988John Deere changed their 300 Series engine designs and designations fromnon-metric to metric. As a result of the redesign of the cylinder head, the nozzleclamping arrangement on Pencil Nozzles supplied to John Deere for these engjnesalso changed. S.B. 479-2-Regardless of the type, the thickness of the nozzle clamping spacer and plain washerare selected so as to determine the proper clamping load of the nozzle in the cylinderhead. Stanadyne makes several combinations of these components and the propercombination must be used together to attain the correct clamping load and tipprojection.The design of the Pencil Nozzles utilized on John Deere metric engines is such thatthe nozzle clamping components and spacer are retained to the nozzle assembly(Only the clamping screw is a separate item). Since both the clamping spacer andplain washer stay with the nozzle for metric engines, the possibility of incorrect partcombinations, which would result in improper clamping force, is minimized.Plain Washer and Nozzle ClampingSpacerDeere 300 Series Non-metricEnginesCombinationsUtilizedfor JohnPencil Nozzles supplied to John Deere for their Non-Metric engines do not haveretained nozzle clamping assemblies and spacers. Therefore, the service replacementnozzles for these applications are provided without the clamping spacer. Over theyears several different combinations of plain washers and nozzle clamping spacershave been utilized on Pencil Nozzles for non-metric engines and as mentionedearlier, the proper combination of washer and spacer must be used to ensure that theproper clamping force is applied to the nozzle. These include a decrease in smoke, a reduced tendency to misfireduring cold start-ups, and a small improvement in specific fuel consumption. Forthese reasons, John Deere has issued a service letter (see attached) to their servicenetwork which recommends using a 26990 (R92352) plain washer and a 26991(R92351) nozzle clamping spacer whenever our nozzles are removed from a 300Series turbocharged non-metric engine. John Deere has subsequently superseded the27336 nozzle with the 26993 nozzle in their system since the only difference betweenthem is the thickness of the plain washer that is utilized.

-3-S.B. 479Stanadyne has not superseded the 27336 nozzle and continues to offer both the27336 and 26993 service replacement nozzles to our service network for the subjectapplications. Since nozzle clamping spacers normally stay with the engine whenPencil Nozzles are serviced, Stanadyne recommends servicing nozzles using the sameplain washers as they are received with (i.e., green for green, red for red). This isbased on the assumption that the end user has the proper nozzle clamping spacer togo along with the plain washer that is present on his nozzles when submitted forrepair.However, when nozzle replacement is necessary, you may provide 26993 nozzles inplace of 27336 nozzles as long as they are sold with 26991 nozzle clamping spacers.You may also upgrade 27336 nozzles to 26993 by changing the plain washers to P/N26990 and providing a set of 26991 clamping spacers if the customer does not have300 Seriesthem. Please note that this change pertains only to Non-Metricturbocharged engines and involves only 27336 and 26993 nozzles. This nozzle andclamping spacer combination will allow your customer to take advantage of theperformance benefits and ensure that the proper nozzle clamping force is beingapplied to the nozzle.Technical Support GroupProduct Support Department

Originally,R34764 Seal (blaak) was used together withR34761 Spacer. In the early 80's production went to R60746Seal (green), used with R60745 Spacer.
