4Infotainment SystemOverviewRead this manual thoroughly tobecome familiar with how thenavigation system operates.Keeping your eyes on the road andyour mind on the drive is importantfor safe driving. The navigationsystem has built-in features intendedto help do this. Some featuresmay be disabled while driving. Notethat these functions are grayed-out.A grayed-out function indicates it isnot available when the vehicle ismoving.All functions are available when thevehicle is parked. Before driving: Become familiar with thenavigation system operation,hard keys on the faceplate, andtouch-sensitive screen buttonsof the navigation system. Set up the audio by presettingfavorite stations, setting thetone, and adjusting the speakers. Set up the navigation featuresbefore beginning to drive,such as entering an addressor a preset destination. Set up phone numbers inadvance so they can be calledeasily with the press of a singlebutton or a single voice command(for navigation systems withphone capability).{ WARNINGTaking your eyes off the road toolong or too often while using thenavigation system could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others. Focus yourattention on driving.{ WARNINGAvoid looking too long or toooften at the moving map on thenavigation screen. This couldcause a crash and you or otherscan be injured or killed. Use theturn-by-turn voice guidancedirections whenever possible.Use the navigation system to: Plan a route. Select a destination usingvarious methods and choices. Follow turn-by-turn route and mapguidance with voice prompts,only if permitted by traffic laws,controls, and conditions. Receive RDS broadcastannouncements.

Infotainment SystemAlways be alert and obey trafficand roadway laws and instructions,regardless of the guidance fromthe navigation system. Becausethe navigation system uses streetmap information that does notinclude all traffic restrictions orthe latest road changes, it couldsuggest using a road that is nowclosed for construction or a turnthat is prohibited by signs at theintersection. Because the systemuses limited information, alwaysevaluate whether following thesystem’s directions are safe andlegal for the current conditions.When the navigation system isturned on, a screen might appearwith the information below. Readand acknowledge the informationit contains.{ WARNINGTaking your eyes off the road forextended periods could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others.5After acknowledging the start upinformation you will be able toaccess the NAV (navigation)and DEST (destination) functions.Once accessed, enter or deleteinformation in the navigationsystem or access other functions.See instructions later in this section.To help avoid a crash in which youor others could be killed: Always concentrate on yourdriving first by keeping youreyes and mind on the road,and your hands on the wheel. Follow system directions onlyif permitted by traffic laws,controls, and conditions. Before using this system, readthe owner manual and learnhow it operates. Some system controls cannot beused the when vehicle is moving.Each time the vehicle is started andthe navigation system is turnedon, the Caution screen appears.Touch OK to accept the Caution.

Press the NAV hard key to goto the navigation map screen.The map and your current vehiclelocation will be shown.2. Press the NAV hard key to togglebetween a split (map/audio) viewor a full map view.Press the CONFIG hard key todisplay the Setup menu. The Setupmenu allows you to access screenswhere you can configure variousaudio, navigation display, phone,vehicle configuration, and timefeatures.To scroll through the available setupoptions, press the CONFIG hardkey repeatedly, or touch the desiredtab at the top of the screenLanguagesTo change the display language fromwhat the system is currently set to,see “Vehicle Configuration Menu”in the index of the vehicle’s ownermanual.The vehicle supports English,French (Canadian) and Spanish(Latin). The default languageis English.

AM, FM, and XM(if equipped) can be mixed.To store presets:Entering an Address andPoint of Interest, and StoringPreset DestinationsThe vehicle must be in P (Park) toperform these operations.1. Press the O to turn thesystem on.Entering an Address2. If viewing a map screen, touch thesource screen button, press theRADIO BAND key, or press theFAV key. Enter the street name first3. Select the band.4. Seek or tune to the desiredstation, to select it.5. Press and hold one of the presetscreen buttons for more thanone and a half seconds.6. If necessary, enter the state/province name. The last state/province name is automaticallyrecalled.

For example, enterN. Royal Oak Rd as Royal Oak.Use the backspace ( q ) screenbutton to delete an incorrectcharacter.A list displays if four or fewernames are available. If thereare more than four, there is amatch counter with a number ofavailable streets. Select the listbutton to view the list and selectthe street.4. Select the city from the list orenter the city name.7. Select the GO screen if correct.The route will calculate.4. Press the Point of Interestscreen button.8. Select the route preference forfastest, shortest, or easiest.The chosen route preferencehighlights. See “NavigationSettings” under ConfigureMenu on page 65 for moreinformation.5. Enter the specific title of thePOI in the POI name space(i.e. Washington Monument).If four or less names areavailable, a list displays. If morethan four are available, there isa match counter with a numberin it, representing the number ofavailable POI names. Select theList button to view the list. Selectthe POI.9. Press the Mark screen buttonfrom the map screen to addthe current final destinationto the address book.The address book screenappears.6. Select the Name screen button.An alpha-keyboard displays.Enter the name.7. Press and hold one of thescreen buttons at the bottomof the screen until the text inthe button changes.The address book entry nameappears in that preset destinationscreen button and is nowavailable to select from the SelectDestination screen. When cleaning theglass, use only a soft cloth anddo not spray cleaner directlyon the system.1. Press the CONFIG hard key toenter the menu options, thenpress the CONFIG key repeatedlyuntil Nav is selected or touch theNav screen button.2. Press the Voice Prompt screenbutton.3. Press the Voice Volume screenbutton.4. Press the (plus) or – (minus)screen buttons to increaseor to decrease the volumeof the voice prompts.See “Voice Volume” underConfigure Menu on page 65for more information.Do not apply spray cleaner directlyto the system, the cleaner couldaffect the mechanical parts.Do not wipe the panel with a hardcloth or use a volatile liquid such asthinner or alcohol, it could scratchthe surface or erase the characterson the buttons.RadioAM-FM RadioPlaying the RadioAudio Source MenuO (Power/Volume):to turn theradio on or off. Turn the knob toincrease or decrease the volume.The volume is adjusted for thecurrent audio source, activenavigation voice guidance,or voice prompts.The steering wheel controls canalso be used to adjust the volume.See “Steering Wheel Audio Controls”in the vehicle’s owner manual formore information.Also, see “Radio Settings” and“Automatic Volume Control” earlierin this section.

See “Findinga Station” following for moreinformation.13AUX (Auxiliary): Press theHDD/DVD/AUX hard key untilthe aux source is selected.AM/FM/XM: Press the RADIOBAND hard key to select the AM,FM, or XM band.The audio sources can also bechanged by using the steering wheelcontrols. See “Steering Wheel AudioControls” in the index of the vehicle’sowner manual for more information.HDD/DVD/AUX: Change to DISC,HDD, USB, or AUX by pressingthe HDD/DVD/AUX hard keyuntil the desired source is selected.HDD (Hard Drive Device): Pressthe HDD/DVD/AUX hard key untilthe HDD source is selected.If the audio system is on and youare viewing a map screen, a touchsensitive source indicator tab willappear at the top of the mapscreens.Touch the source indicator tab todisplay the current audio sourcescreen. The display shows a splitscreen with the audio source screenon the left side and the map orguidance screen on the right side.Touch the Full Map button to exitthe split view screen.

14Infotainment SystemNavigation Audio SystemAdjusting the SpeakersSound MenuTo adjust the speaker balance usingthe Sound menu:To access the sound menu, pressthe Tone button.Use the Sound Menu to adjust thefollowing features: Setting the Tone Adjusting the SpeakersSetting the ToneTo adjust the tone using theSound menu:To adjust the bass, treble andmidrange: Treble: Touch the Treble ( )or ( ) to change the level. Mid (Midrange): Touch theMid ( ) or ( ) to change the level. Bass: Touch the Bass ( )or ( ) to change the level.EQ Settings Touch and hold the left arrowbutton for more sound fromthe left speakers or the rightarrow button for more soundfrom the right speakers.The middle position balancesthe sound between the leftand right speakers.To adjust the speaker fade: Touch and hold the front arrowbutton for more sound from thefront speakers and the rear arrowbutton for more sound fromthe rear speakers. The middleposition balances the soundbetween the front and rearspeakers.EQ (Equalization): The EQsettings are selected through thesound menu. EQ provides a choiceof Manual, Talk, Country, Pop,Rock, or Classical settings.

Infotainment SystemRadio SettingsAudio system settings or featurescan be customized for: Automatic Volume ControlTo access the RADIOsettings menu: Press the CONFIG hard key,then touch the Radio tab. Press the CONFIG hard key untilthe Radio menu displays.Select OFF, Low, Medium, orHigh sensitivity to automaticallyadjust the volume to minimize theeffects of unwanted backgroundnoise that can result fromchanging road surfaces, drivingspeeds or open windows.This feature works best atlower volume settings wherebackground noise is typicallylouder than the sound systemvolume. Number of Favorite PagesChange the number ofmixed-band preset pageswhen using the FAV hard key.Touch 1 to 6 to select the numberof preset lists.15 HDD FAV Pages (Numberof Favorite Categories forHDD Mode)Selects the categories such asPlaylist, Artist, Album, and Genreto be used as a favorite categoryduring HDD mode. DivX Registration CodeDisplays the DivX registrationcode used for DivX mediaplayback.Finding a StationSelect the band, see “SourceSelection” earlier in this section.Turn the TUNE knob to find a radiostation. To select a preset station,touch the corresponding presetbutton.See “Mixed-Band Presets” later formore information.

16Infotainment SystemSeeking a StationMixed-Band PresetsPress SEEK hard key to search fora station.Up to 36 preset stations canbe stored. Each page can storesix preset stations. The presetswithin a page can be from differentradio bands.Local Station List SearchTo scroll through the pages, pressthe FAV button. The current pagenumber displays above the presetbuttons. The stored stations for eachlist displays on the touch-sensitivepreset buttons at the bottom of thescreen. The number of preset FAVlists can be changed.To store a radio station to amixed-band preset list:To find a list of local stations inthe current band AM or FM band,press the SELECT hard key.The radio performs a searchfor available stations.1. Touch the RADIO BAND, thentouch AM, FM or XM to selectthe desired band.2. Tune to the station.3. Press FAV to scroll to the list.4. Touch and hold one of thepreset buttons for more thantwo seconds. The stationfrequency appears on the presetbutton at the bottom of thedisplay.5. Repeat the steps for each presetin each page.To recall a preset station from aFAV page:1. Press FAV to scroll to the page.2. Touch the preset button. Thestored preset station is recalled.TimeshiftThe Timeshift feature automaticallybegins recording the audio whenlistening to the radio.The recording allows playback ofcontent that was missed.Timeshift only stores up to20 minutes of content. After20 minutes, it removes the oldestcontent and continues recordingnew content.

Infotainment SystemWhile listening to the radio, pressk (play/pause) to stop hearing theinformation through the speaker.During this paused time, timeshiftkeeps recording. A status bardisplays the length of the recording.Radio Data System (RDS)To resume listening to thebroadcast at the point left off,press k again. Seek to stations broadcasting theTimeshift stops recording anderases the buffer when the vehicleis turned off or the station orsource is changed.Before turning the vehicle off,press k so that timeshift keepsrecording for 20 minutes. If thevehicle is still off after 20 minutes,the system stops recording and allinformation is lost. If a low batterycondition occurs, timeshift stopsrecording and all information iserased.The audio system has a Radio DataSystem (RDS). RDS features areavailable for use only on FM stationsthat broadcast RDS information.With RDS, the radio can:selected type of programming Receive announcementsconcerning local and nationalemergencies Display messages from radiostationsThis system relies on receivingspecific information from thesestations and only works whenthe information is available.17In rare cases, a radio station couldbroadcast incorrect information thatcauses the radio features to workimproperly. If this happens, contactthe radio station.The RDS system is always on.When information is broadcast fromthe current FM station, the stationname or call letters display onthe audio screen. RDS can providea program type (PTY) for currentprogramming and the name ofthe program being broadcasted.

18Infotainment SystemSatellite RadioXM CategoriesAudio PlayersXM Satellite Radio ServiceXM stations are organized incategories.Vehicles with an XM satelliteradio tuner and an XM satelliteradio subscription can receiveXM programming.CD/DVD PlayerRemoving or Adding CategoriesXM is a satellite radio servicethat is based in the 48 contiguousUnited States and 10 Canadianprovinces. XM Satellite Radiohas a wide variety of programmingand commercial-free music,coast-to-coast, and in digital-qualitysound. A service fee is required toreceive the XM service. For moreinformation, see www.xmradio.comor call 1-800-929-2100 in the U.S. orin Canada, www.xmradio.ca or call1-877-438-9677.When XM is active, the channelname and number, category name,song title, and artist displays onthe screen.1. Press the CONFIG buttonuntil the radio settings menuappears.2. Select Show/Hide XM Categoriesscreen button.3. Press the category buttons onthe screen to show or hide thecategory.XM Radio MessagesSee “XM Radio Messages” inthe vehicle’s owner manual fora list of possible XM messages.The player can be used for CD,MP3, DVD audio and as aDVD video player.With the ignition on, insert a CD/DVDinto the slot, label side up. The playerpulls it in and begins playing. Whileplaying, the navigation system isavailable.The vehicle must be in P (Park) forvideo to display.The DVD player is only compatiblewith DVDs of the appropriate regioncode that is printed on the jacket ofmost DVDs.

Infotainment System Most audio CDsTo avoid damage to the CD/DVDplayer:CD-R Do not use scratched or DVD-VideoThe system is capable of playing:CD-RWMP3 or unprotected WMAformatsDVD-AudioDVD-R/RWDVD R/RWWhen playing any compatiblerecordable disc, the sound qualitycan be reduced due to disc quality,the method of recording, the qualityof the music or video that has beenrecorded, or the way the disc hasbeen handled.There can be increased skipping,difficulty in recording tracks, anddifficulty in finding tracks/chaptersand/or difficulty in loading andejecting. If these problems occur,check the disc for damage or trya known good disc.damaged discs Do not apply labels to discs.The labels could get caughtin the player. Insert only one disc at a time. Keep the loading slot freeof foreign materials, liquidsand debris.If a description label is needed, trylabeling the top of the disc usinga marking pen.Loading and Ejecting DiscsTo load a disc:1. Turn the ignition on.2. Insert a disc into the slot, labelside up. The player pulls it inthe rest of the way. If the disc isdamaged or improperly loaded,there is an error and the discejects.19The disc automatically plays onceloaded.Press X to eject a disc from theCD/DVD player. If the disc is notremoved within a short period oftime, it automatically is pulled backinto the player.Playing a CD/DVDA disc must be loaded to select thesource.When a disc is loaded, the DISCicon displays.There are two ways to play aCD/DVD: Insert the disc (tilt slightly ifnecessary) and play startsautomatically. Press the HDD/DVD/AUX hardkey, then touch the DISCscreen button.

Select the trackfrom the list. The system plays theselected track and returns to the CDscreen. Press to seek to the beginningShufflethrough a track. Release thebutton to return to playing speed.Elapsed time displays.A track number displays at thebeginning of each track. Song,Artist, and Album informationdisplays when available.Use the following controls to playthe disc:k (Play/Pause): Use to start,pause, or resume play.TUNE: Turn the knob to the rightor left to go to the next or previoustrack.of the current or previous track.If the track has been playing forless than five seconds, it seeksthe previous track. If longer thanfive seconds, the current trackstarts from the beginning. Press and hold to fast reversethrough a track. Release thebutton to return to playing speed.Elapsed time displays.This icon displays when Shufflemode is on. See “CD Menu”following.

Infotainment SystemCD MenuPlaying an Audio andVideo DVD21After the DVD is loaded, the menuoptions display on the DVD screen.The menu options time out anda full screen appears after about10 seconds. Touch anywhere onthe navigation system screen orpress the FAV, HDD/DVD/AUX, orBACK hard keys to view the menuscreen again.Use the preset hard keys or touchscreen buttons to operate theDVD optionsTouch the CD Menu screen buttonto display the CD Menu.Shuffle: Plays the tracks randomlyrather than in sequence. Touchagain to stop shuffle. A check markindicates shuffle is on.Track List: Displays the list oftracks on the disc. Select the trackfrom the list. The selected trackplays and the CD screen displays.To view the DVD video, the vehiclemust be in P (Park) for an automatictransmission or the parking brakemust be engaged for a manualtransmission.There are two pages of DVDoptions. Select the arrow button,located in the bottom right cornerof the screen, to access theother page. Only the highlightedfunctions are available for use.Some menu options are onlyavailable when the disc is notplaying.

Touch anywhere onthe navigation system screen orpress the FAV, HDD/DVD/AUX,or BACK hard key to re-displaythe source screen buttons overthe video image.Cursor: Touch this button to accessthe cursor menu. The arrows andother cursor options allow navigationof the DVD menu options.
