Students will explore the federal and statelaws that regulate the delivery and reimbursementpractices of the U.S. healthcare system. Students willinvestigate federal, state, and voluntary complianceprograms in healthcare settings. Prerequisite:Admission to BS in MI or BS in HCA program orpermission of the Dean.HCA 420 Research Methods and InformationLiteracy3 CreditsResearch methods and information literacy will bethe focus of this course. Topics will include researchterminology, literature searching, and literatureevaluation. This content is geared to increase anddisseminate intellectual inquiry, information literacyand the use of scholarly research methods.Prerequisite: MAT 160, Admission to BS in MI or BSin HCA program or permission of the Dean.HCA 430 Healthcare Delivery Models3 CreditsIn this course students will focus on various methodsof healthcare delivery in the United States. Studentswill discover barriers related to cost, quality, andaccess to healthcare. They will comparecharacteristics of healthcare in the U.S. withhealthcare systems in other countries. Students alsoinvestigate current and future issues and trends inhealthcare reform. Prerequisite: Admission to BS inMI or BS in HCA program or permission of the Dean.HCA 440 Financial Management in Healthcare3 CreditsThis course will engage students in the foundationsof financial management in delivery of healthcareservices. Topics will include the purpose andmethods of financial reporting in addition tofinancial risk, variances, and an overview of payermix models.
