TEF 7Before you start the application, look at all the things that havechanged about this grant application.Really everything has changed.It is not business as usual. You will apply through www.tefconnect.com.But no selection will be made at this point (unlike before that the winnerswill be announced after this first level) Everyone that applied will undergo an online training and it will bemarked (they don’t mark it before) Successful entrepreneurs from the training will be selected to pitch theiridea live (this is a new component of the programme). Many will be dropped at this stage and final winners will be announced. They will attend the Entrepreneurship Forum. Do their Documentation and finally will receive the seed capital alert of 5000. They will be added to the Alumni Network.12

TEF 7The 7th Edition of The Tony Elumelu FoundationEntrepreneurship Programme (2021)The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme is a 100million commitment made by the Elumelu family to empower 10,000 Africanentrepreneurs over a 10-year period through, training, mentorship and funding.The goal is to create at least 1million jobs and contribute over 10billion in revenueto the African economy.Through its flagship Entrepreneurship Programme the Foundation empowersAfrican entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurship ecosystem across 54 Africancountries. The TEF training curriculum has been designed to segmententrepreneurs based on the demonstrated capability and knowledge.The training has been tailored to educate and capacitise you in starting or growingyour business to overcome the challenges faced by entrepreneurs across theAfrican continent. The curriculum focuses on practical, iterative learning thatis useful even long after the training period.NOTE: Completion of the training programme is a strict condition to movingforward to the submission and review of your business plan, participation in thepitching competition, and receipt of seed capital.HOW TO REGISTERThe application form consists of four parts:(1) Personal information(2) Commercial information(3) Cognitive assessment(4) Declaration sectionTo ensure a transparent application process, all applicants will need tohave a valid government issued ID and indicate their name on theapplication form on TEFConnect exactly as it appears on the ID card.19

Expect Foundation comments.PLEASE NOTE: TEFConnect can only be accessed by a single email account. It isimportant that all applicants register with an email to which they have regularaccess to.WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE PROGRAMME?The Entrepreneurship Programme identifies outstanding African entrepreneurswho have start-ups or business ideas with the potential to grow. The TEFEntrepreneurship Programme will be delivered in different phases as listedbelow: Application Phase Training &Mentorship PhaseBusiness Plan Submission PhasePitching PhaseSeed Capital Phase THE APPLICATION PHASEThis will take place from the January 1 to March 31. Once applicationsare closed, eligible applicants will be placed in the appropriate training path asfollows:PREPARATORYThis means you do not have the skillset needed to start a business. You will gothrough the general training on TEFConnect. You will, however, not be eligiblefor mentorship or seed capital.20

TEF 7START-UP/ BEGINNERThis means you are a starter according to the business start-up profiling. You willgo through the beginner training modules and you will have access to world classmentors during the programme.INNOVATIOR/ INTERMEDIATEThis means that you have been profiled to be an intermediate entrepreneur. Youhave a good potential to be a successful entrepreneur. You will go through theIntermediate training modules and you will have access to world class mentorsduring the programme.DISRUPTOR/ ADVANCEDThis means that you are or identified to be natural or a seasoned entrepreneur.You will go through the Advanced training modules and you will have access toworld class mentors during the programme.THE TRAINING AND MENTORSHIP PHASEOnce shortlisted and placed in the appropriate training path, you will be eligibleto take part in our rigorous business training and mentoring sessions. There willbe multiple choice questions to track your performance. You will attend a virtualorientation program to learn more about the process and we will share timelinesand resources available for you to succeed. The shortlisted entrepreneurs will begiven access to join the peer-to-peer support groups. Shortlisted entrepreneurs will be expected to complete the businesstraining, answer the quiz at each end of each module.The shortlisted applicants after the training will be given the opportunity todevelop a BUSINESS PLANTHE BUSINESS PLAN AND FINANCIALS SUBMISSION PHASEAt the end of the training, you will be required to combine all the learnings fromthe training into a single cohesive document.
