ProductThe XPS Board features a CFC-free, closed cell core made from Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Rigid Foam. Thestandard XPS Boards are reinforced with fiberglass mesh on both sides and coated with a synthetic polymerresin and MgO mortar.Product Range XPS Tile Backer Board – supplied as flat, L, U shaped, and round shapeable boardsXPS Shower Tray with drain – supplied square and in rectangular formatsThe XPS Board as Underlayment for Floor heating system - factory grooved and can bealuminum top foiled.Product Benefits Include The lightest product on the market for heavy duty tile-backer board applicationsWaterproofness and zero capillarityEasy to cut by knife or sawDoes not delaminate and is free of organic materialDoes not ignite or fuel any fire noncombustibleVery good thermal insulationDoes not support mold or fungusWall Application in Wet area and ShowersThe XPS Tile-Backer Board, XPS Shower Tray, XPS Shapeable, L and U Shaped Boards (Fig .1) are engineeredas a general purpose underlayment for tiles and are especially designed for high moisture areas. XPS will notabsorb water nor does it need additional waterproofing due to its inherent waterproofness and zero capillarity.3

Wall Installation in Wet area and ShowersAccording to Certification ICC-ES PMG - 1332Wood Stud wallsStandard construction (fig. 2)Apply a minimum ½” thick XPS Tile-Backer Board directly to the 2” x 4” Studs, Joist spacing no greater than16”o.c. Mount with any of the following hot dipped galvanized fasteners containing a minimum head diameterof 3/8": (a) 1 5/8" screws or roofing nails, or (b) screws with washer and tabs for high load applications.Fasteners must have a minimum length of three times (3x) the panel thickness with a maximum distancebetween fasteners of 8". Place perimeter fasteners at least 3/8” and less than 5/8” from ends and edges, drive nails or screws so heads are flush with panel to ensure firm contact with the panel (Do not countersinkthe fasteners).Sealing (fig. 2):After installing the boards apply approximately a ¼” to ½” bead of Polyurethane Sealer and Adhesive betweenthe boards. Spread the excess sealant over the top of all joints so in addition to having a solid sealant beadbetween the boards there is from ¾” to 1” of thin surface coverage on both sides of the seam; this meansthere will be a thin top coat from 1.5” to 2” in width over each joint.NOTE: Do NOT use normal silicone as the modified mortar will not bond.Fig. 2: Installation with Polyurethane Sealer and Adhesive.Boards can be installed horizontally or verticallyFasteners applied 3/8” to 5/8” fromperimeter edge - endsStud Joistspacing 16” o.c.Polyurethane Sealer and Adhesive on edges:Spread sealant onto both sides of the seam for athin top coat of 1.5” to 2” in width over joints4

Fig.4: Flush Transition to DrywallTiling can now be directly appliedin a fraction of the time required by traditional methods.Floor installation Wet area - Wood Stud FloorsWood (or M4 non-combustible) subfloor should be constructed so the deflection does not exceed 1/360 of the totaldistance between floor joist (ASTM C626). Normally 5/8” Plywood /OSB or 1/2” M4 boards and joist spacing 16” o.c.fulfill demand. Apply ¼” or ½” XPS Boards onto the subfloor simply by spreading modified cement mortar (followingmanufacturer instructions) over the clean subfloor. Apply the boards by laying the boards into the mortar and usingfasteners every 12” into the floor joists. Seal all joints with modified mortar.5

Shower-Tray Installation over Wood Subfloor (Fig. 5)The XPS Shower Trays are designed with a built-in minimum 2% drain angle. Wood /M4 (non-combustible)subfloor should be constructed so the deflection does not exceed 1/360 of the total distance between floorjoist (ASTM C626). Normally 5/8” Plywood /OSB or 1/2” M4 boards and joist spacing 16” o.c. fulfill demand.Installation:Measure and mark where your drain will be fitted on the subfloor, cut drain hole in the subfloor and fix theBelow part of the drain between the floor joist in correct height, in fast drying modified cement mortar/woodstructure.Apply approximately ½” bead of the polyurethane sealer and adhesive on the notched edges of the ShowerTray (toward the wall boards) or on the two wall sides towards the Shower-Tray (the XPS tile backer boardand Shower-Tray shall be butting tightly together – remove excess sealer). Before applying the Shower-Trayon the subfloor, spread modified cement mortar over the clean subfloor and hereafter install the Shower-Tray.Install theTop part of the Drain into the below part of the drain, by screwing the two drain parts together afterapplying silicon as below picture. Now install the Waterproof Sealing Tape and Plumbing Sealing must be sealed with modified mortar.6

Boards can be factory grooved for watertubes (boards are 1” thick for 5/8” water tubes or 1 ¼” thick for ¾” water tubes). Downward heating loss on concretefloors is prevented due to the thermal insulation value. Boards can further be supplied with factory top mounted aluminum foil, making the floor heating even more effective. Processing and StoringSafetyAs with all other building materials, safety precautions must be taken into account and local laws and regulationsmust be observed. Cutting and drilling with circular saw or jigsaw are subject to dust development, and properprecautions must be taken by using appropriate dust extraction equipment and it is recommended the operatorcarry personal safety equipment.Application ConditionsBoard temperature and ambient temperature should be 44 F ( 7 C) - 86 F ( 30 C) and relative humidity 85% (optimally 60 %). Process temperature must be min 44 F ( 7 C).Storing and Proper HandlingMulti-Panels products are delivered with plastic protection cover on the pallet. If undamaged, the plastic coverprotects against weather conditions during transportation. The plastic cover is for dust protection only and shouldbe removed upon arrival at the building site. Hereafter the pallets should be kept under a roof, leaving the possibilityof ventilation around the Panels. Multi-Panels must be stored on a flat and dry level surface on pallets or sleeperswith a min. 12" distance between all sides of the pallets or sleepers. The Panels must be lifted up and off the palletand not drawn over the next board. Lift pallet crosswise and set forks apart to minimize bending of pallet. Forklength must support pallet entirely; if required, use fork extensions.General InformationServiceIf you have any questions, our dedicated service team is ready to assist you with advice and guidance.
