iGate Communicating ControlsiGate - Information gateway to monitor, control, and diagnose your systemFanTranquility 30 Digital is equipped with industry-first, iGate – Information Gateway – 2-way communicating system.iGate allows users to interact with their geothermal system inplain English. It delivers improved reliability and efficiency byprecisely controlling smart variable speed components. iGatemakes Tranquility 30 Digital series the easiest geothermalproducts to install and service.Monitor/Configure – Installers can configure Tranquility cToolTwo-Way Communication30 Digital units from the iGate communicating thermostator configuration/ diagnostic tool. This includes: Air flow, loop,water-flow option configuration, unit configuration, accessoryconfiguration, and demand reduction (optional - to limit unitoperation during peak times). Users can look up the currentsystem status: temperature sensor readings and operationalstatus of the blower and pump.Precise Control – The new DXM2 board enables intelligent,2-way communication between the DXM2 board and smartcomponents like the communicating thermostat, fan motor, and water pump. The DXM2 board can also directly controlthe modulating valve and accepts various feedback/input(see figure). The Intelligent DXM2 board uses informationreceived from the smart components/sensors to preciselycontrol operation of the variable speed fan and variable speedwater pump (or modulating valve) to deliver higher efficiency, reliability and increased comfort.Diagnostics – iGate takes diagnosing geothermal unitsto the next level of simplicity, by providing a dashboard ofsystem and fault information, in plain English, on the iGatethermostat/ service tool.iGate Service Warning will alert the occupant of a fault anddisplay dealer information (if programmed), fault description, possible causes, and current system status (temperaturereadings, fan RPM, and water flow status) which may bereported to service personnel. In iGate Service Mode, the service personnel can accessfault description, possible causes, and most importantly, theconditions (temp, flow, i/o conditions, configuration) at thetime of the fault. Manual Operation mode allows the servicepersonnel to manually command operation for any of thethermostat outputs, blower speed, pump speed, or valveposition from the thermostat to help troubleshoot specificcomponents. With the iGate communicating system, users and contractorshave a gateway to system information thats never beenavailable before now.One-Way pAIRFLOW SELECTIONCFM6007508508505257004255503506030HEAT STAGE 1HEAT STAGE 2AUXILIARY HEATEMERGENCY HEATCOOL STAGE 1COOL STAGE 2COOL DEHUMID 1COOL DEHUMID 2CONTINUOUS FANHEAT OFF DELAYCOOL OFF DELAYPREVIOUSNEXTPOSSIBLE FAULT CAUSESLOW WATER COIL TEMPLOW WATER TEMP - HTGLOW WATER FLOW - HTGLOW REFRIG CHARGE - HTGINCORRECT LT1 SETTINGBAD LT1 THERMISTORPREVIOUSFAULT TEMPERATURE CONDITIONSLT1 LOW WATER TEMPHEAT 1 11:11 AM 11/14LT1 TEMPLT2 TEMPHOT WATER EWTCOMP DISCHARGELEAVING AIRLEAVING WATERENTERING WATERCONTROL limateMaster works continually to improve its products. Constant Volume ECM ControlThe ECM Constant Volume (CV) blower motor (optional) iscontrolled directly by the DXM2 control board that convertsthermostat inputs and CFM settings to signals used by theECM-CV motor controller. The DXM2 control must be used tocontrol the CV ECM motor. To take full advantage of the ECM-CV motor features, acommunicating multi-stage thermostat should be used(ATC32U03C). The DXM2 control maintains a selectableoperating airflow [CFM] for each heat pump operating mode. For each operating mode there are maximum and minimumairflow limits. See the ECM-CV Blower Performance tablesfor the maximum, minimum, and default operating airflows.Airflow levels are selected using the configuration menus ofa communicating thermostat (ATC32U03C) or configuration/diagnostic tool (ACDU03C) and harness 11B0100N27).The configuration menus allow the installer to independentlyselect and adjust the operating airflow for each of theoperating modes. Airflow can be selected in 25 CFMincrements within the minimum and maximum limits shownin the ECM-CV Blower Performance Table. The bloweroperating modes include: CV ECMBlowerMotorATC CommunicatingThermostatDXM2DiagnosticToolFirst Stage Cooling (Y1 & O)Second Stage Cooling (Y1, Y2, & O)First Stage Heating (Y1)Second Stage Heating (Y1 & Y2)Fan (G with no Y1, Y2, or W)AIRFLOW SELECTIONHEAT STAGE 1HEAT STAGE 2AUXILIARY HEATEMERGENCY HEATCOOL STAGE 1COOL STAGE 2COOL DEHUMID 1COOL DEHUMID 2CONTINUOUS FANHEAT OFF DELAYCOOL OFF DELAYThe ECM-CV motor includes “soft start” and “ramp down”features. The soft start feature is a gentle increase of motorrpm at blower start up. This creates a much quieter blowerstart cycle. The ramp down feature allows the blower to slowly decreaserpm to a full stop at the end of each blower cycle. Thiscreates a much quieter end to each blower cycle and addsoverall unit efficiency. The ramp down feature is eliminatedduring an ESD (Emergency Shut Down) situation. When theDXM2 ESD input is activated, the blower and all other controloutputs are immediately 06030NEXTAirflow Configuration Screen on CommunicatingThermostat or (ACDU) Service Tool. The ramp down feature (also known as the heating or cooling“Off Delay”) is field selectable by the installer. The allowablerange is 0 to 255 seconds.1. Constant Dehumidification Mode: When thedehumidification mode is selected (via DIP switch or jumpersetting), the ECM motor will operate with a multiplierapplied to the cooling CFM settings (approx. 20-25% lowerairflow). Any time the unit is running in the cooling mode, itwill operate at the lower airflow to improve latent capacity. The “DEHUM” LED will be illuminated at all times. Heatingairflow is not affected. Note: Do not select dehumidificationmode if cooling setting is tap 1.2. Automatic (Humidistat-controlled): DehumidificationMode: When the dehumidification mode is selected (via DIPswitch) AND a humidistat is connected to terminal DH, thecooling airflow will only be reduced when the humidistatsenses that additional dehumidification is required. TheDH terminal is reverse logic. Therefore, a humidistat(not dehumidistat) is required. The “DEHUM” LED willbe illuminated only when the humidistat is calling fordehumidification mode. Heating airflow is not affected.ClimateMaster works continually to improve its products. Selection ProcedureStep 1 Determine the actual heating and cooling loads at thedesired dry bulb and wet bulb conditions.Step 1 Load Determination:Step 2 Obtain the following design parameters: Entering watertemperature, water flow rate in GPM, air flow in CFM,water flow pressure drop and design wet and dry bulbtemperatures. Air flow CFM should be between 300 and450 CFM per ton. Unit water pressure drop should bekept as close as possible to each other to make waterbalancing easier. Go to the appropriate tables and findthe proper indicated water flow and water temperature.Step 3 Select a unit based on total and sensible coolingconditions. Select a unit which is closest to, but no largerthan, the actual cooling load.Step 4 Enter tables at the design water flow and waterAssume we have determined that the appropriate cooling loadat the desired dry bulb 80 F and wet bulb 65 F conditions is asfollows:Total Cooling.23,700 BTUHSensible Cooling.16,500 BTUHEntering Air Temp.80 F Dry Bulb / 65 F Wet BulbStep 2 Design Conditions:Similarly, we have also obtained the following design parameters:Entering Water Temp.90 FWater Flow (Based upon 10 F rise in temp.).6.0 GPMtemperature. Read the total and sensible coolingcapacities (Note: interpolation is permissible, extrapolation is not).Air Flow.800 CFMSteps 3, 4 & 5 HP Selection:Step 5 Read the heating capacity. If it exceeds the designcriteria it is acceptable. It is quite normal for WaterSource Heat Pumps to be selected on cooling capacityonly since the heating output is usually greater than thecooling capacity.Step 6 Determine the correction factors associated with theAfter making our preliminary selection (TC024), we enter thetables at design water flow and water temperature and read TotalCooling, Sens. Cooling and Heat of Rej. capacities:Total Cooling.23,400 BTUHSensible Cooling.17,500 BTUHHeat of Rejection.30,200 BTUHvariable factors of dry bulb, wet bulb and air flow.Corrected Total Cooling tabulated total cooling x wetbulb correction x air flow correctionCorrected Sensible Cooling tabulated sensible coolingx dry bulb correction x air flow correction.Steps 6 & 7 Entering Air and Airflow Corrections:Next, we determine our correction factors.TableEnt AirAir FlowCorrectedCorrected Total Cooling 23,400 x 0.9681 x 1.0050 22,767Corrected Sens Cooling 17,500 x 1.1213 x 0.9820 19,270Step 7 Compare the corrected capacities to the loadrequirements. Normally if the capacities are within 10%of the loads, the equipment is acceptable. It is betterto undersize than oversize, as undersizing improveshumidity control, reduces sound levels and extends thelife of the equipment.Step 8 When completed, calculate water temperature riseExample Equipment Selection For Coolingand assess the selection. If the units selected are notwithin 10% of the load calculations, then review whateffect changing the GPM, water temperature and/or airflow and air temperature would have on the correctedcapacities. If the desired capacity cannot be achieved, select the next larger or smaller unit and repeat theprocedure. Remember, when in doubt, undersize slightlyfor best performance.Corrected Heat of Rej. 30,200 x 0.9747 x 1.0434 30,713Step 8 Water Temperature Rise Calculationand Assessment:Actual Temperature Rise.10.2 FWhen we compare the Corrected Total Cooling and CorrectedSensible Cooling figures with our load requirements stated in Step1, we discover that our selection is within /- 10% of our sensibleload requirement. Furthermore, we see that our Corrected TotalCooling figure is within 1,000 Btuh the actual indicated load.ClimateMaster works continually to improve its products.
