Kickback may occur whenthe nose or tip of the guide bar touchesan object, or when the wood closes inand pinches the saw chain in the cut.Tip contact in some cases may cause alightning fast reverse reaction, kickingthe guide bar up and back towards theoperator. Both of the operator′s hands must beused to operate the chain saw.Regular cleaning is required.Never operate a chain saw holding it withone hand only.Visual check.Either of these reactions may cause youto lose control of the saw which couldresult in serious personal injury.Protective goggles or a visor mustbe worn.Do not rely exclusively upon the safetydevices built into your saw. As a chainsaw user, you should take several stepsto keep your cutting jobs free fromaccident or injury.Contact of the guide bar tip with anyobject must be avoided.Pinching the saw chain along the top ofthe guide bar may push the guide barrapidly back towards the operator.WARNING! Kickback may occur whenthe nose or tip of the guide bar touchesan object, and cause a lightning fastreverse reaction, kicking the guide barup and towards the operator. Maycause serious personal injury.Refuelling.Chain brake, activated (right)Chain brake, not activated(left)Filling with oil and adjusting oil flow.Other symbols/decals on the machine refer to specialcertification requirements for certain markets. With a basic understanding of kickback, you can reduceor eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden surprisecontributes to accidents. The chain brake must be engagedwhen the chain saw is started.Keep a good firm grip on the saw with both hands, theright hand on the rear handle, and the left hand on thefront handle, when the engine is running. Use a firm gripwith thumbs and fingers encircling the chain saw handles.A firm grip will help you reduce kickback and maintaincontrol of the saw. Don’t let go.Make sure that the area in which you are cutting is freefrom obstacles. Do not let the nose of the guide barcontact a log, branch, or any other obstacle which couldbe hit while you are operating the saw.Cut at high engine speeds.WARNING! Kickback may occurwhen the nose or tip of the guide bartouches an object, and cause a lightningfast reverse reaction, kicking the guidebar up and towards the operator. Maycause serious personal injury.2 – English1153137-95 Rev.2 2009-12-29Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height.Follow manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenanceinstructions for the saw chain.Only use replacement bars and chains specified by themanufacturer or the equivalent.1153137-95 Rev.2 2009-12-29Other safety precautions!WARNING! Do not operate a chain sawwith one hand! Serious injury to theoperator, helpers, bystanders or anycombination of these persons may resultfrom one-handed operation. A chain sawis intended for two-handed use.Do not operate a chain saw when you are fatigued.Use safety footwear; snug-fitting clothing, protectivegloves, and eye, hearing and head protection devices.Use caution when handling fuel. Move the chain saw atleast 10 feet (3 m) from the fueling point before startingthe engine.Do not allow other persons to be near the chain saw whenstarting or cutting with the chain saw. Keep bystandersand animals out of the work area.Do not start cutting until you have a clear work area, secure footing and a planned retreat path from the fallingtree.Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain whenthe engine is running. Before you start the engine, make sure that the saw chainis not contacting anything.Carry the chain saw with the engine stopped, the guidebar and saw chain to the rear, and the muffler away fromyour body.Do not operate a chain saw that is damaged, improperlyadjusted, or not completely and securely assembled. Besure that the saw chain stops moving when the throttlecontrol trigger is released.Shut off the engine before setting the chain saw down.Use extreme caution when cutting small size brush andsaplings because slender material may catch the sawchain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance. When cutting a limb that is under tension be alert forspringback so that you will not be struck when the tensionin the wood fibers is released.Keep handles dry, clean and free of oil or fuel mixture.Operate the chain saw only in well-ventilated areas.Do not operate a chain saw in a tree unless you havebeen specifically trained to do so.Do not operate a chain saw above shoulder height. All chain saw service, other than the items listed in theoperator’s/owner’s safety and maintenance instructions, should be performed by competent chain saw servicepersonnel. INTRODUCTIONTECHNICAL DATARecommended original and replacement bar and chain combinationsDear customer!Following is a list of recommended cutting equipment for the Husqvarna chain saw model 455 Rancher, 455e Rancherand 460 Rancher. The combinations of power head, bar and chain have been tested and found to be in accordance withthe kickback requirements of ANSI B175.1–2000.Congratulations on your choice to buy a Husqvarna product! Husqvarna is based on a tradition that dates back to 1689,when the Swedish King Karl XI ordered the construction of a factory on the banks of the Huskvarna River, for productionof muskets. The location was logical, since water power was harnessed from the Huskvarna River to create the waterpowered plant. During over 300 years of continuous operation, the Husqvarna factory has produced a lot of differentproducts, from wood stoves to modern kitchen appliances, sewing machines, bicycles, motorcycles etc. In 1956, the firstmotor driven lawn mowers appeared, followed by chain saws in 1959, and it is within this area Husqvarna is workingtoday. The guide bar nose radius is determined by either the maximum number of teeth in the nose sprocket or thecorresponding maximum nose radius of a solid bar.The following list is the chain saw manufacturers recommendations. There may be other combinations available, whichwill also achieve kickback reduction. As we are listing the maximum guide bar nose radius, you may use a guide bar with smaller nose radius than in our list. For guide bars of the same length, all sprocket-nose guide bars of the same pitch and having the same number ofsprocket teeth may be considered to have equivalent kickback energy. A hard nose bar having the same length and noseradius as a sprocket-nose bar may be considered to have equivalent or less kickback energy than the sprocket-nose bar.Low kickback saw chain is a chain which has only met the kickback performance requirements of ANSI B 175.1 safetyrequirements for gasoline powered chain saws when tested on the representative sample of chain saws below 3.8 cu.in. specified in ANSI 175.1. We recommend that you as a replacement use the listed chains or "Low kickback saw chains"which are available at your dealer. Saw chains Husqvarna H81 and H80 are both examples of listed ”Low kickbacksawchains”.BarLength, inchPitch, inchGauge, inchChainMax. nose radiusTypeDrive 0,05011THusqvarna H80,Husqvarna H46,Husqvarna H47Today Husqvarna is one of the leading manufacturers in the world of forest and garden products, with quality as ourhighest priority.
