The 1955-1961“hundred” and “01” series were 3 digit numbers, with the middle digit designating the specific model within the series based ontransmission and PTO type. The 1957-1961 1801 series were industrial versions of the 801 series of the same time period, with the thirddigit designating the specific model within the series. The 1960-1964 2000 and 4000 series were 5 digit numbers with a number ofdifferent combinations of digits designating the chassis type(all purpose/utility, row crop, offset, orchard, or light or heavy industrial), aswell as the transmission and PTO type. The Ford 6000 – The Ford 6000 was made from 1962-1967, and overlaps a couple of the year ranges covered above for other models, soI thought that I would mention it separately. The information below is going from the few 6000 tractors that I have gotten numbers fromcombined with the general rules for model numbers of the 2 different year ranges for the other models that the 6000 productionoverlapped. The 6000 was only made with the Select-O-Speed transmission, which themselves were only available with either no PTO, orindependent PTO, and the independent PTO was available as a single speed 540 rpm version, or a dual speed 540/1000 rpm version, andthe dual speed PTO was also available with the ground speed option, so there are fewer variations within the model codes, as the optionsfor other transmissions and other PTO types didn’t exist for the 6000.The 1962-1964 6000 tractors had 5 digit numbers for model codes, just like the 4 cylinder 2000 and 4000 tractors from the same years.The 1962 tractors started with 60 just as the 1961-1962 2000 and 4000 industrial tractors started with 20 and 40 respectively, and the1963-1964 tractors started with 61 just as the 1963-1964 200 and 4000 series started with 21 and 41 respectively. The remainingcharacters of the model code for the 1962-1964 6000 tractors seem to match what John Smith has on his web site(www.oldfordtractors.com/identifying.html) for the 2000 and 4000 models of the same time frame.The 1965-1967 6000 tractors used a 6 character model code with a mixture of letters and numerals just as the 1965-1975 tractors did.Since I am only aware of Row Crop and All Purpose versions of the 6000 I will only cover those. The model code for the All Purposechassis 6000’s from 1965-1967 should start with 610 and the Row Crop chassis 6000’s from 1965-1967 should start with 620. The 4thcharacter will be a 1 for a diesel engine and a 2 for a gasoline engine. The 5th character will be a 4 if it has the single speed 540 rpm PTO,a 5 if it has the dual speed 540/1000 rpm PTO, a 6 if it has the dual speed with the ground speed option, or a 1 if it has no PTO. The 6th(and last) character should always be an E on a 1965-1976 6000 to indicate the Select-O-Speed transmission.
