Cohort vs.GradeLevel Cohort: Year that a student should graduate basedupon when they entered the 9th grade (i.e. Cohort2021, Cohort 2022, etc.). This number does notchange. Grade Level: Grade distinction for a student (i.e. 9th,10th, etc.) in Infinite Campus that is based upon thenumber of credits that the student has earned. Thisnumber will change as students earn the requirednumber of credits. 10th grade 5 or more credits 11th grade 11 or more credits 12th grade 17 or more credits

Learning Recovery or TransitionAcademy:The ThreeRecoveries Specifically for those students who received anIncomplete in a course from last semester These students will have an opportunity tocomplete a school based Learning Recovery toreceive credit for the course Must complete the learning recovery byDecember 2020 or the final grade from lastsemester will be reflected on the transcript.

Unit Recovery:The ThreeRecoveries Ongoing while the student is taking the class Created and facilitated by the teacher Purpose is to allow students to recoverlearning on specific standards based upon unitassessment data Students will complete teacher createdinterventions in a specific time period and willbe re-assessed on those standards The grade from the Unit re-assessment can beused to replace practice work and/orassessment grades for that Unit

Credit Recovery:The ThreeRecoveries Occurs after a student has failed a course Facilitated by the Graduation Coach through avariety of platforms The student will work through and be assessed onall of the content/standards for a course After successful conclusion of the program, thegrade for the credit recovery will be reflected onthe transcript along with the original failing grade This is not available for all classes and is dependenton what is offered through the various platforms Note for potential collegiate athletes: the NCAAdoes not recognize credit recovery

We are awaiting guidance from the district onhow we can use available funds regardingtutoring while we are in remote learningTutoring Once we return to the building, we will offer avariety of after school tutoring options as wellas bus transportation pending district approvaland available funding More information will be available as wereceive district guidance

During remote learning, students will engage withtheir 3rd period teachers on Friday mornings forSocial Emotional LearningSocialEmotionalLearning This is an opportunity for teachers and students tobuild positive relationships and for students toconnect to a caring adult in our building As a part of this curriculum, students will learn andgrow in a variety of social and emotional skills thatwill help them develop the tools that they need besuccessful beyond high school We will continue SEL twice a week duringInstructional Focus when we return to our building

Transcript Requests

Transcript Request ProcessAs of right now, all transcript requests must be submitted to Mrs.Peggy Garrard at peggy.garrard@henry.k12.ga.us. Transcript requestsfor Georgia colleges/universities will be sent electronically throughGAFutures. Transcripts for out of state colleges/universities will bemailed. This process will be in place while we are working virtually. Itis subject to change once we are back in the building.

Scholarships

Types of Scholarships National scholarships Institutional scholarships (refer to the college websites) Local scholarships (the MHS counseling department willpublish a scholarship directory listing local scholarships.Scholarship applications will also be posted on thecounseling webpage as they become available. Apply! Apply! Apply! Don’t let an essay deter you fromapplying for scholarships!!

Letters of RecommendationRequests

Letters of Recommendation Some colleges/universities and/or scholarship applications will require a letter of recommendation.Seniors who need a letter of recommendation, must submit a recommendation request only once.The recommendation request form can be found on the senior webpage and in the Class of 2021Google classroom. We will keep a copy of the completed recommendation request on file if youneed to provide it to a teacher.Please allow at least seven business days for the recommendation to be completed by your assignedcounselor. We will not be able to process recommendation requests without allowing adequate timefor your counselor to write a quality recommendation.Make sure to check with the college/university to determine if a letter of recommendation is needed.Some colleges/universities (ex. Georgia State University) do not require a letter of recommendation.The recommendation request can be found in the Class of 2021 Google classroom and on the MHSsenior webpage.

HOW CAN PARENTS HELPTO PREPARE STUDENTSFOR LIFE AFTER HIGHSCHOOL?

Tips for Senior Parents Every senior needs a post-secondary plan. All seniors do not have to go to a four-year college.Post-secondary options include four-year college, two-year college, technical college, military,apprenticeship programs, and the workforce. There are a lot of good paying jobs that do notrequire a four-year college degree! Help your senior to understand that it’s okay to not knowwhat he/she wants to do after high school. Students who are unsure need to reach out toMs. Willis, our college advisor, his/her counselor, or the graduation coach for assistance. Monitor senior grades using Infinite Campus and stay in contact with your student’s teachers.Senior grades count! Seniors must maintain their grades for college/university finalacceptance, qualification for scholarships, and etc. Keep that GPA up! Help your senior toavoid senioritis, which is a big problem for seniors! Play a Supporting Role. Allowing your child to lead will reinforce the idea that they aremature adults prepared to leave the nest, and will help them develop resilience and selfconfidence. Take care of yourself! Self-care is not selfish! Take some time to keep your cup filled! It’shard for you to continue to pour into the lives of everyone else if you’re running on empty!Find ways to nourish your mind, body, and soul! Things as simple as going for a walk,exercising, stretching, deep breathing, reading, meditating, writing in a gratitude journal,sleeping in, getting a spa treatment, and/or connecting w/loved ones can make a difference!

Title I is the largest federally funded program for elementary, middle andhigh schools It is part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The purpose of Title I under the ESSA is to ensure that all children havea fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high qualityeducation and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging stateacademic achievement standards and state academic assessments.
