CompoundBowUSER’S GUIDE20

Thank you from the entire PSE family for purchasing a PSE bow! Your PSE bowwas manufactured from the finest materials available and handcrafted withpride in the USA. With proper care you will enjoy the use of this product foryears to come.BOW TERMINOLoGYAXLEIDLER WHEELPlease read this entire booklet before shooting or adjusting your bow. Remember, many adjustments to a compound bow require the use of a bow press. Whenevershooting a bow, be certain of your target as well as what else lies downrange.LIMBNOTE: IMPORTANT WARRANTY REGISTRATION INFORMATION IS ON PAGE 18LIMBPOCKETSTRINGGeneral Operating Instructions Always inspect your bow thoroughly before each shooting session to insure that it isin good working order. Check for worn, loose or missing components and have themreplaced at an authorized PSE dealer as required, i.e. bushings, spacers, etc. Inspect your arrows to insure that they are straight, undamaged and that each nock is ingood condition. A cracked nock can break when fired from the bow and cause the bowto “dry fire” resulting in possible injury to the archer and damage to the bow. Dry-firingis drawing and releasing the bowstring without an arrow on the string. When purchasing arrows for your bow, consult the selection chart from the arrowmanufacturer and select the correct arrow for your application. Always use an arrow thatis at least 5 grains per pound of peak bow weight. Failure to do so could cause personalinjury and damage to your LEGUARDSLIDEBow MaintenanceYour PSE bow will give you many years of use if maintained and cared for properly.IMPORTANT: Before servicing any PSE bow in a bow press, back out each limb bolt 4complete turns from bottomed position. Keep synthetic cables and strings waxed. Apply bow string wax to your synthetic cablesand string before each shooting session. Strings and cables must be replaced periodically. A worn cable or string can suddenlybreak causing serious injury to the archer and damage to the bow. It is recommendedthat the string and cables be replaced at least every 5,000 shots or 12 months. Always store your bow in a cool dry place. High temperatures, such as those that canoccur in the interior of a vehicle, can cause serious damage to your bow. After use in high humidity or damp conditions, wipe metal components of bowwith a light oil.safetyAs with any weapon, safe operation of your PSE bow must always be the highest priority.ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN HANDLING A BOW.Do not attempt to use your bow without proper instruction. Doing so can result inserious injury.a. Never dry-fire any bow. Dry-firing is drawing and releasing the bowstring withoutan arrow on the string. Dry-firing will likely cause damage to the bow and serious injuryto the archer. In the event of a dry-fire, have an authorized PSE dealer inspect the bowfor damage. DO NOT dry-fire the bow multiple times!b. Always be sure of your intended target as well as what lies behind the target area. An arrowcan travel a considerable distance, so it is important to have a safe and sound backstop.c. If you draw a bow and need to let it down, do so in a slow and careful manner. Keepyour support arm straight and prepare for a rapid and violent let-down. Avoid hittingyour hand on protruding accessories such as the cable guard or quiver. Keep yourhead and face back and out of danger during let-down. Never draw a bow with a peakweight above your comfort level. Always use a bow sling when drawing a bow.d. Never modify any part of the bow or its components by drilling extra holes or removingmaterial. This voids the warranty and presents safety problems.e. It is not recommended to time the bow using a draw board unless the draw board isoperated by a winch or other mechanical pulling CKSTOPSTABILIZERRISERarrowCAMLIMBBANDVANENOCK3

CompoundBowUSER’S GUIDEbackstop instructionsSetting-Up Your BowAlignmentMarkNocking Point Placement:Arrowrest mounting holeFinger shooters: Install the nocking point so that thearrow passes the center of the arrowrest mounting holeand runs slightly point-down relative to the tuning markon the window of the bow.Release Aid shooters: Install the nocking point so that thearrow passes the center of the arrowrest mounting holeand runs parallel to the tuning mark on the window ofthe bow.Note: Many PSE bow models come from the factory with the Backstop installed. These instructions refer to reinstallation or adjustment if needed after making adjustmentsto your PSE bow.1. Remove the setscrews from the base using a 1/16” hex wrench.2. Install the Backstop into the threaded hole below thegrip on the string- facing side of the bow.3. Extend the Backstop until it makes contact with the string. Mark the string ¼” aboveand ¼” below where it makes contact with the string. Remove the Backstop andadd serving to that area of the string. Reinstall the Backstop .4. To avoid any possibility of the cables striking the setscrews, the setscrews must befacing away from the cables. If they are not, remove the Backstop base, add thewasher provided and reinstall the Backstop base as shown.5. Securely tighten the base to the bow handle.6. Extend rod from base until rubber stopper contacts the string. Rotate rod until theindentation in the rod closest to the alignment hole (see picture) can be identified.Rod should be rotated 180 and the rod/stopper lightly pushed into the string untilthe next available indentation is visible (Detent holes are offset – see picture below).Install the setscrews to secure rod in this position. Tighten setscrews.AlignmentMarkArrowrest Adjustment:When shooting with a release aid, the in/out positionof the arrowrest should be adjusted so that thearrow runs parallel with the tuning mark on theshelf when viewed from above. When shooting withfingers the arrow should point slightly outsidethe tuning mark on the shelf.Serve stringin this area.Sight Adjustment:When adjusting the sight pin locations, alwaysremember to “follow the group”. That is, if theshot group is to the left of the target, move thesight pins to the left. If the shot group is low, move the sight pins down.Add washerif setscrewsare nearcables. Set screwsAlignmentholeCable Guard Adjustment &installation:Install the cable guard as shown in Figure A.Adjust the cable guard so the cables just clearthe arrow vanes. On bows using an offsetcable guard rod, adjustments must be donewith the rod in the up position (approximately1 o’clock) as shown in Figure B (11 o’clockfor left handed bows). Over-rotating anadjustable cable guard creates excessivearrow clearance and may cause the cableto track incorrectly on the wheels and causepersonal injury and/or damage to the bow.4Figure AFigure B5

CompoundBowUSER’S GUIDEInstallation of AccessoriesArrowrest/Overdraw: The arrowrest or overdraw shouldbe installed according to the instructions received withthe product. It is usually mounted to the riser in thethreaded hole on the side opposite the shelf (hole “A”)using the hardware provided with the arrowrest oroverdraw.Sight: The sight should be installed according to theinstructions received with the product. It is usuallymounted to the riser in the threaded holes (holes “B”) onthe side opposite the shelf using the hardware providedwith the sight. Some bows are equipped with multiplesight mounting holes which allow the sight to be movedup or down.Stabilizer: The stabilizer should be mounted accordingto the manufacturer’s recommendation. It is usuallymounted in the threaded hole on the front of the riser(hole “C”).Bow Sling: The bow sling attaches to the riser of the bowgenerally with the stabilizer. If a stabilizer is not used, attach the sling to the riser with the correct sized boltusing the hole provided for the stabilizer (hole “C”).cam AdjustmentsHolesBDraw Length:HoleAThe inner cam system allows draw length adjustments over a prescribed range withoutputting the bow in a bowpress. There are two types of inner cam systems: discrete settinginner cams and Posi-Lock inner cams.Discrete setting inner cams have the adjustment screws going through a specific hole inthe inner cam and threading into the cam. The screws need to be completely removedto make adjustments. The “A” setting is the longest draw length for that bow and drawlengths get shorter as you progress down the alphabet (A to B, B to C, etc.)HoleCCAUTION: On some bow models, the limb boltlocking screw or pocket tang locking screw MUST beloosened BEFORE adjusting.Wheels/Cams: Many PSE wheels and cams have adjustable features. Each one comes fromthe factory set-up and ready to use but there may be occasions where you need to adjust thecharacteristics of your bow. In some cases you will need a PSE Tune Chart to determine whatto adjust, and you may need to see a PSE Dealer for information. If you are not sure of theadjustment you are making, stop and see your PSE Dealer for assistance. In many cases, anappropriate bow press will be needed to make adjustments to cams and wheels. If you do nothave an appropriate press, see your PSE Dealer.6Your Authorized PSE Dealer is supplied withtechnical information on PSE bows and cams. Please see your Dealer for assistancewhen making these adjustments.STRING POST ADJUSTMENTSSome PSE cams have string post adjustments for draw length. For minor changes in drawlength, the bow must be placed in a suitable bow press and tension relieved from thestring and cable. The string side of the cam may have additional posts. Moving the stringfrom the post with the dot to the post with the “ ” will increase draw by approximately ¼”.Moving the string from the post with the dot to the post with the “-“ will decrease draw byapproximately ¼”.ALL INNER CAMS:Other AdjustmentsDraw Weight: Your bow is factory-set to within 2 lbs.of the peak draw weight indicated on the label on thelower limb of the bow. Changes in draw weight can bemade by turning the limb bolt in or out. Before makingany changes in weight, turn the limb bolt clockwise tothe bottom position. Never use extreme torque whenturning the bolt or damage to the limb may occur. Thelimb bolt then may be turned counterclockwise to obtainthe desired weight, but NEVER more than 4 turns orrevolutions for most bows. Exceptions to this are theMini Burner, Discovery 2, Barracuda or any bow witha Center Lock Pocket which can be backed out 6 turnsfrom bottom. Adjust each limb exactly the same.Cam Orientation:On cams with orientation marks, a reference mark is found to indicate an approximateorientation. This line is for reference only and is meant to give approximate orientationonly and may vary between bow models. The orientation of the cams may be changedslightly by twisting or untwisting the string or cable. If attaching the string to the “ ” orthe “-“ post, the orientation marks will not be aligned with the cable.Posi Lock adjustable innercams are adjustable in ½”draw length increments. The “A” setting is the longestsetting for the cam.Draw lengths get shorter asyou progress down the alphabet(“A” to “B”, “B” to “C”, etc.) byroughly ½” per letter. It may be necessary to switch inner cams from the inner cam marked “ACEGIK” to theinner cam marked “BDFHJL” to achieve the desired draw length adjustment. To makeadjustments, remove both of the adjustment screws. Determine if the setting you requireis on the “ACEGIK” inner cam or the “BDFHJL” inner cam. Align the mark on thecompression plate to the line on the cam with the appropriate marking (“A/B”, “C/D”,“E/F”, etc). Attach the selected inner cam to the cam making sure that the alignment pinand both mounting screws are aligned to their mating holes. Tighten the mountingscrews and move the draw stop to the position with the matching setting(“A” and “A”, “B” and “B”).In cases where there is an inner cam on both the top and bottom cam, both cams must beset in the same letter position for the bow to tune and shoot properly. In cases where thereis a separate draw stop, the draw stop must be moved to the hole marked with the lettercorresponding to the inner cam setting.7

CompoundBowUSER’S GUIDEstop adjustments:Let-Off:Let-off adjustment is part of the draw stop. To adjust from higher to lower let-off,remove the draw stop from the higher let-off hole and reinstall it in the lower let-off hole of the corresponding module number. For example, if the cam is equipped witha number 7 module the stop must be reinstalled in the hole marked “7” in the rowmarked with the lower let-off setting. Changing to lower let-off will shorten the drawlength a small amount.STAGE 3 :DRAW LENGTH: The draw length is adjusted by placing the bow in an appropriate bowpress and relieving the tension from the string and cables. Move the string to the slot thatwill shorten the effective length of the string to shorten the draw length by ½” per wheel.Move the string to the slot that will lengthen the effective length of the string to lengthenthe draw of the bow by ½” per wheel.BossThese two rows of holesare used to determinedraw length.Draw Stop:The position of the draw stop must match the size of the module. For example, if the camis equipped with a number 7 module, the draw stop must be placed in one of the draw stopholes marked with a “7”. If the inner cam is in the “B” setting, the stop must be in the “B”position. Certain hybrid cams have top and bottom stops. They can be shot with both stopsfor a harder “wall” or with only the top stop for a softer “wall”. Never shoot hybrid camswith the two stop option with only the bottom stop. In either case, the stops need to be inthe holes marked with the same marking as the inner cam setting. The Ultra Fast (UF) hybridcam system has two valley settings-long and short. When using top and bottom stops for ahard “wall” both stops need to be in the same hole designation-long or short.Figure 1Figure 3Cable is pulled overthe boss and placedin the groove.BossThe “S” set ofthreaded holes. The “L” set ofthreaded holes.Figure 2Figure 2Cable is routed behindthe boss for lighterdraw weightsFC FLEXIBLE Cam InstructionsThe FC cam system consists of 2 cams with rotating inner cams for adjusting draw length. Inaddition, the cam design has two draw weight settings. In the Fixed Peak Weight setting thepeak draw weight stays the same regardless of the draw length setting. In the Grow With Yousetting the peak draw weight gets lighter as the draw length is adjusted shorter.DRAW LENGTH ADJUSTMENT:The inner cam has holes marked “A” through “J” for adjusting draw length (see Figure 1) aswell as a set of threaded holes marked “S” and “L”. The “L” holes are used for longer drawlengths and the “S” holes are used for shorter draw lengths (see Figure 2). See the table forthe setting required to achieve different draw lengths and weight. To make the necessary adjustment, remove the screw holding the inner cam in place androtate the inner cam so the letter setting desired lines up with the threaded “L” or “S” hole inthe cam. Replace and tighten the screw. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT BOTH TOP AND BOTTOMCAMS BE ADJUSTED THE SAME. These adjustments can be made either with or without abow press.WEIGHT ADJUSTMENTS:For “Fixed Peak” weight settings each cable must be pulled over the boss on the cam andplaced in the groove on the boss (see Figure 3). For the “Grow With You” weight settingpull the cable over the boss on each cam to allow the cable to ride behind the boss as shownin Figure 4. See the table for detailed adjustment information. No bow press is needed tomake these adjustments.89

CompoundBowUSER’S GUIDEDRAW WEIGHT ADJUSTMENTSPSE has two types of pocket systems: hard stop pockets and vibration damper pockets.Hard stop limb pockets have a “bottomed” position to determine peak weight. This position is where the limb, pocket and riser contactone another and cannot be adjusted further.Vibration damper pockets have rubber in between thelimb and pocket and the riser. The “bottomed” limbposition is NOT when the limbs contact the riser. Thebottomed position for vibration damper pockets is wherethe bottom surface of the limb is approximately .20”(3/16” or 5 mm) away from the riser. The limb bolt maybe adjusted to slightly increase the draw weight, but thegap between the limb and riser must never be less than0.15” (4 mm).IMPORTANT: Do not “bottom” the limbsagainst the riser on a bow equipped withvibration damper pockets!Example of vibration damper pocket.asymmetric idlerWide edgeSome PSE bows are equipped with aspecial asymmetric idler wheel, which isassembled on the top limb. It is essentialthat the idler be oriented properly. The wide edge of the idler always goesto the cable guard side of the bow.The illustration shows the properorientation of the idler for a right-handedbow when viewed while holding the bowas it is shot.SERVICING BOWS WITH PSE UF CAMSCAUTIONCAUTIONCAUTIONWhen servicing bows with PSE UF cams, such as theOMEN PRO, it is important to use a bow press that hasenough clearance for the cams.On some bow presses the cams may make contact withthe area shown in Figure 1 when compressing the limbs.Watch very carefully as the bow is compressed. If eithercam comes in contact with the bow press,STOP IMMEDIATELY or permanent damage to bowcomponents may occur.Contact the bow press manufacturer forfurther information.10Vibracheck hush kit AccessoriesCam mayhit hereFigure 1If your bow is equipped with a Cable GuardDamper it should be even with the cable slidewhen the bow is at rest. More than oneCable Guard Damper can be used.If your solid limb bow is equipped with limbbands, the proper placement of the bands isapproximately 1/8” beyond the limb fork.If your split limb bow is equipped with limbbands, the proper placement of the bandsis at least 1/4” away from the cam (align theband with the end of the limb graphic).Cable Guard DamperLimb Band on Split LimbLimb Band on Solid Limb11

CompoundBowUSER’S GUIDECompress ONLY far enough to loosenthe string and cables. Over compressingcould break the limbs and cause personalinjury. Any damages incurred from overcompressing will not be covered underwarranty.X TechnologyThe X Technology bows come with many unique features that willenhance your archery experience.PATENTED independent split limb pocket systemPULL-TYPE PRESS:Some X Technology bows are equipped with independentsplit limb (ISL) pockets. If servicing a bow with ISL pocketsrefer to the instruction sheet that came with the bow orvisit www.pse-archery.com.Do not make any adjustment to this system withoutreferring to the instructions. This type of press pulls the riser of the bowin a vertical direction between rollers thatcompress the limbs.ISL PocketWhen using this type press it is veryimportant to position the rollers and pressure points correctly.MAINTENANCEYour bow is a mechanical device that is subject to wear and therefore must be inspectedperiodically and given the proper adjustments and service. It is recommended that thisservice be performed at least once a year by an authorized PSE dealer. All components, including string, cables, axles, e-clips, limbs and riser should be carefully inspected fordamage or wear.STRINGS AND CABLESApply a light coat of high quality bowstring wax to your string and cable each time you shootyour bow. It is especially important NOT to wax the area of the string that wraps aroundthe idler wheel. This area of the string should be treated with a cam lubricant. This will helpreduce wear on your string and cables. Inspect the string and cables regularly and replacethem when there is evidence of wear, every 5000 shots or every 12 months.USING A BOW PRESSALL X Technology bows MUST be serviced in an approved bow press and require specialconsideration. Do not attempt to service these bows in any bow press without reviewing theprocedures described herein.Use of a non-approved bow press or improper use of an approved bow press WILL resultin damage to the bow and possible personal injury. Damages incurred by improper useor maintenance will not be covered under the warranty. See the PSE website atwww.pse-archery.com for a list of approved bow pressesBack the limb bolts out 4 turns from the bottom settingand position the pressure points on the riser as close tothe limbs as possible WITHOUT making contact with thelimbs as shown in the photo. The pressure points mustnot contact the limbs at any time during servicing.Position the limb rollers outward on the limbs so that when the riser is pulled down the bowdoes not slip through/between the rollers before releasing tension on the string and cables. The rollers must be at least 4” from the limb pockets or the limbs will break. While placingtension on the limbs, BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PULL THE RISER DOWN TOO FAR. DEFLECTTHE LIMBS JUST ENOUGH TO REMOVE THE STRING AND CABLES.Never allow the rollers to go past the belly (thinnest part) of the limb. There are two basic types of approved presses available: compression-type and pull-type.COMPRESSION-TYPE BOW PRESS:This type of press pushes in a horizontal direction against the tips of the limbs. No other support for the bow is required. When using a press of this type, back each limb bolt out 4 turns from the bottom setting, position the bow in the press and crank press inward to apply a compression force againstthe limb tips as shown.Compression ForceService such as peep and string mounted vibration damper installation and string replacementcan be performed with a Pocket Press portable bow press available from your local PSE dealer.Item #01031, #01164. #01165, #01169 and #01070 are pocket presses available foralternate axle-to-axle lengths and cam types.1213
