Be careful what you do with the best you have.Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back tohim as a love gift. Take time to meditate before Godand offer the blessing back to him in a deliberate act ofworship.”- O S WA L D C H A M B E R St u e s d ay , a u g u s t 2 4 , 2 0 2 1p r ay e rw e d n e s d ay , a u g u s t 2 5 , 2 0 2 1Teach me to praise You, Oh God, for it is from You whomALL blessings flow.Teach me to praise You, Oh God, joining my voice withall Your creatures here below.t h u r s d ay , a u g u s t 2 6 , 2 0 2 1Teach me to praise You, Oh God, joining my voice withYour heavenly host.Teach me to praise You, Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost.For it is Your breath in my lungs, teach me to praise nesdayThursdayFridaySaturdaye n g ag e m e n tf r i d ay , a u g u s t 2 7 , 2 0 2 1s at u r d ay , a u g u s t 2 8 , 2 0 2 1When we stop thinking that worship can only happenwithin the four walls of a church, it begins to open ourminds to realize we can worship God anywhere. We donot need to be in a specific space to worship, only a sacredspace. And anywhere that the Spirit of God is IS a sacredspace.Whenever the methodof worship becomesmore importantthan the Person ofworship, we havealready prostituted ourworship.– J U D S O N C O R N WA L L

A B U N DA N C eSince everything comes from God and everything belongs to God, we are called to be faithfulstewards of God’s gifts. Therefore, in worship we bring our whole selves our time, our talentand our treasure and offer it back to God as an act of acknowledging that everything wehave is given from the Giver of life. In an “abundance framework” we can trust that as we pourourselves out for God’s mission in the world, we will not be “poorer” but instead, the more wetake up our cross and follow him in true worship, we become “richer” than we could imagine, inthe eternal richness of inheriting an eternal Kingdom that does not fade, corrupt or rust. When have you hada powerful worshipexperience? Whereyou felt God’s presencewrap around youand sensed theR E A D M AT T. 6 : 1 9 - 2 0overwhelming loveof God?C O M PA S S I O N AT ECA R I NGWorship is a posture. No matter the specific style (organ or drums) worship is a posture of awarenessand gratitude. When we gather together as a group of people and all choose at the same hour in oneaccord to participate in this same posture of awareness and gratitude, the Holy Spirit begins to fillour minds and hearts with the transcendent truths. The truth that we are not alone, God is present.Though we fear much, God is greater than all we fear. We become aware and grateful for this divinepresence, we remember and we appreciate this is what it means to worship in Spirit and Truth. When the music fades, and all is strippedaway, and I simplycome. Longing just tobring something that’sof worth that will blessYour heart. I’ll bringyou more than a song, for a song in itself, is notwhat you have desired. You search much deeperwithin, through the waythings appear. You’relooking into my heart.E va n g e lWhat an interesting time we are in. During the height of the pandemic we were quarantinedand “worshiping online” became the new norm. On one hand, this was incredibly valuableand kept so many people plugged in to their church community when they could have felt evenmore isolated. On the other hand, there is was one dynamic that simply could not be replacedor substituted for, that is the gathering together, in-person. In Hebrews 10:25 we are given clearwisdom: And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage oneanother, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (NLT). There is somethingunique that happens in worship when we gather as one body and set our hearts and minds toworship together.GO DEEPER:The UnquenchableWorshiperB Y M AT T R E D M A N

WEEK twenty-eig hts u n d ay , a u g u s t 2 9 , 2 0 2 1D E VOT I O N A L“Back to Normal.” That’s an oft-heard phrase these days.Over the past few months probably all of us have thought, Iwish things could just get ‘back to normal!’m o n d ay , a u g u s t 3 0 , 2 0 2 1t u e s d ay , a u g u s t 3 1 , 2 0 2 1w e d n e s d ay, s e p t e m b e r 1 , 2 0 2 1t h u r s d ay , s e p t e m b e r 2 , 2 0 2 1f r i d ay , s e p t e m b e r 3 , 2 0 2 1s at u r d ay , s e p t e m b e r 4 , 2 0 2 1But it is surprising that the word translated ‘normal’ inour English Bibles occurs only twice in the Old Testamentand not at all in the New Testament. That may be just acoincidence, or it may be that from the Biblical perspective,‘normal’ is overrated. Perhaps more than a ‘normal’ life,God wants us to experience abundant life. Jesus said “Thethief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came thatthey may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10NRSV)Instead of wishing for a return to normalcy that perhapsnever really was, we should be open to the ways God offersabundant life and love every day. Let’s not let anyone oranything steal this from us.

P r ay e rGracious Lord, inthe midst of thesechallenging days, may we be opento the ways thatyou offer us yourabundance. InJesus’ Name wepray, Amen.weekofreflectionTell me, what is it you plan to dowith your one wild and precious life?-MARY OLIVER

Where were you when you first heard the news? What were you doing? What do you remember most about that day and time? What did you need most then?I was at home preparing to catch a flight to Chicago for work. My daughter called tosee if I was on a plane and where was I. I watched with millions around the world as thetowers collapsed. I remember sitting in disbelief at what I was seeing. The one thing Iremember most is going to church the next Sunday and being so disappointed that thepastor there did not offer the Hope that can only come through a relationship with Jesusto the overflow crowd. I have often said that the church missed a golden opportunity tospeak a really hopeful message to a confused world, desperate for HOPE.As we go through this week, the media will keep us focused on the events of that time, Iinvite you to join with me in your daily prayers for our city, state, country and world andthe still desperate need that so many have for some kind of HOPE. You and I know ofthe hope that they need. Will we be willing this time to share it?Pray daily for: Hope; our first responders who continue to protect us and run in whenothers are running out; for our government officials; world leaders; one another; Peace.e n g ag e m e n tt h u r s d ay , s e p t e m b e r 9 , 2 0 2 1What are some ways this week that you can show appreciation to thosearound you?1. Shewas required by Jewish law togive one of her two coins, butnot the second. Her giving herall shows her total dependenceupon God for ALL she needed.Others made a spectacle of theirwealth and how much theygave, but Jesus could see theirhearts and honored and elevatedthe widow.Oh, to be found so much in loveand dependent upon God.ca r i ngThis week, can you. . . If abrother or sister is nakedand lacks daily food, and one of you says tothem, “Go in peace;keep warm and eat yourfill,” and yet you donot supply their bodilyneeds, what is the goodof that? So faith byitself, if it has no works,is dead. But someone will say,“You have faith and Ihave works.” Show meyour faith apart fromyour works, and I by myworks will show you myfaith.JAMES 2:14-18 (NRSV)t u e s d ay , s e p t e m b e r 1 4 , 2 0 2 1p r ay e rw e d n e s day , s e p t e m b e r 1 5 , 2 0 2 1Through this week, O God, may my actions show mylove for you and my neighbor. Please beintentional about being a part of this work. But don’t justwait for some special activity to serve others – there are somany ways to demonstrate your faith. Every day, try to findat least one small action you can do to serve others.

A B U N DA N C eSo often, when we give of ourselves in service to others, we realize that the one we are helpinghas received a blessing. What sometimes surprises us, however, is that we also receive a blessing;we are blessed by God for the faithful works we do.C O M PA S S I O N AT ECA R I NGThere are so many reasons why we serve. Perhaps the most important reason is simply this: we loveGod. We receive that love and use it to find ways to serve others with that love. How will you sharethat love with others? This is mycommandment, thatyou love one anotheras I have loved you.JOHN 15:12(NRSV)E va n g e lSometimes helping others is as simple as living a good, faithful life. By living in a way that showsyour faith, you may inspire another to do the same. Let your light, the love of Christ, shinethrough you in all you do so others may see.In the same way, letyour light shine beforeothers, so that they maysee your good works andgive glory to your Fatherin heaven.M AT T H E W 5 : 1 6(NRSV)

Andbe thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in yourichly, teaching and admonishing one anotherin all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns andspiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts toGod. And whatever you do, in word or deed, doeverything in the name of the Lord Jesus, givingthanks to God the Father through him.COLOSSIANS 3:15-17t u e s d ay , s e p t e m b e r 2 1 , 2 0 2 1The Apostle Paul pointed out that the growing andflourishing of the Christian life happens with the importantattitude of gratitude. In each of these three verses heexhorted his readers towards thankfulness for all God hasdone in Christ. The reason for thankfulness is the ‘peacew e d n e s day, s e p t e m b e r 2 2 , 2 0 2 1of Christ’ which is the peace that Christ brings betweenGod and us by his death and resurrection. The way ofshowing thankfulness is by encouraging fellow-Christiansto be faithful to the ‘message of Christ’ through psalms, hymns, and songs of praise. The scope of thankfulness ist h u r s day , s e p t e m b e r 2 3 , 2 0 2 1their total lifestyle. These will be the Christian’s motivationto spiritual maturity.f r i d ay , s e p t e m b e r 2 4 , 2 0 2 1s at u r d ay , s e p t e m b e r 2 5 , 2 0 2 1Let us ask ourselves:Do I have anattitude of gratitude? How important isthankfulness to me formy spiritual growth? Each day of this weekbe thankful for at leastone thing and note ithere.
