Volume 22, Issue 1(Continued from page 3)FCIA WebinarsFCIA’s webinars are a great way to earn Learning Units(LUs) for many who need CEUs.or an individual. This is important to know sincethere are requirements for the individual inspector’scompetence (FM, UL-ULC, and IFC Firestop Exams)and the inspection agency company (IAS AC 291Accredited Companies). The difference is betweenthe individual who passes an exam and the companythat has an audit-tested company ManagementSystem.Earlier this year, FCIA’s deep dive into the ‘DIIM’ conceptand systems analysis saw almost 200 tuned-in for thesession. The engaged group brought great questionsfrom the audience as the program was being delivered. Some highlights and topics covered include: Firestop Standards – Firestop standards for thefollowing were all covered: ASTM E 119, UL 263for the fire-resistance rated assemblies; ASTM E814 and UL 1479 for Penetration Firestop Systems;ASTM E 1966, UL 2079 for Joints; ASTM E 2837 fornon-rated roof to rated wall assembly; ASTM E 2307for Perimeter Fire Containment. ASTM E 3037, Standard Test Method for MeasuringRelative Movement Capabilities of ThroughPenetration Firestop Systems – Look for systemsto be tested soon and published in the laboratorydirectories. ASTM E 3038, Standard for Assessing andQualifying Candidates as Inspectors of FirestopSystems and Fire-Resistive Joint Systems – Whileit is an ASTM Standard, this document as it existstoday confuses who the inspector is – a companyThe session also covered how firestopping is a listingsbased discipline. The UL Product iQ, FM ApprovalGuide, Intertek, or Thomas Bell-Wright Directory testedand listed systems and manufacturers’ installationinstructions are required to install firestopping. Thebuilding code even states to install firestopping to thelisting and manufacturers installation instructions.Specialty Firestop Installation Contractors understandthis. Sometimes, others do not. With continued advocacy for the industry and educationof those ‘D’esigning, ‘I’nstalling, ‘I’nspecting, and‘M’aintaining fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistancerated systems in buildings around the world, we lookforward to the days when the listings are regularlyfollowed and only Specialty Firestop ContainmentWorkers at Specialty Firestop Installation Contractorcompanies install firestop systems.'Fire Codes, Building Codes, and BuildingBarrier Management - Firestops and More'Wednesday, March 2510:00 am CDTREGISTER TODAY(Continued on page 5)
