Building A New shooting RangeAlliance, NebraskaJuly 30, 2008When the outdoor ranges at the Alliance Rifle Club Airport Rangewere closed for shooting Dec. 13, 2006, the Club decided to build a newoutdoor shooting range. May 25, 2007 the Club purchased 27.44 acres ofland about eight miles east of Alliance.The new range is located on the south side of Highway 2. Alliance RifleClub’s Hoffland Range, a 1000 yd. shooting range opened in 1985, is abouttwo miles east of this location.The new range is named the Glen Fiebig Range to honor Glen Fiebigfor his many years of service and contributions to the Alliance Rifle Club.It is going to be designed and built for the members to have a place topractice, sight in and be able to shoot up to 200 yds. It will also be available for club matches or other club activities. During July 2007 the rangewas opened for the use of members and their guests.

Building A New shooting RangeSpring 2008Once the new shooting range was opened, three target butts were made of railroad tiesand positioned at 50 yds., 100 yds., and 200 yds. Two of the Club’s concrete shooting bencheswere added to the firing line plus two other shooting benches and a large shooting table.This made it possible for Club members to have a place to practice, sight in or check equipment. This is looking to the south up the hillside.Summer 2008To provide some storage space, a 40 x 8 foot container was purchased and moved to theGlen Fiebig Range. Then in July the shed was moved from the Airport Outdoor Range atthe same time as the new sign for the Glen Fiebig Range was hauled to the range.Alliance Rifle Club received two grants to use for improvements on the Glen Fiebig Range.One grant is from the Friends of NRA in the amount of 10,382.40 to put in a well andgenerator. The other grant is for 23,000 from the Nebraska Game and Parks for dirt workand range improvements. Work will begin after requirements are met and final details areworked out. Building A New shooting RangeStep One - SignJuly 30, 2008A work party is formed to erect the newsign at the Glen Fiebig Range. Truck witha trailer moved the sign plus the shed fromthe Airport Outdoor Range to the newrange. An auger was used to dig holes forthe sign and a crane used to lower it in place.Steve Miles, Steve Lickliter and BobEngelhaupt make up the work party. AlTuck looks on after doing some practiceshooting on the Glen Fiebig Range.Steve Miles and SteveLickliter level the sign. Then itwas time to mix up ten 80 lb.bags of concrete to fill in theholes. Building A New shooting RangeStep Two - WellSeptember 13, 2008Nelson Well, Inc. brought their equipment toGlen Fiebig Range Saturday for a day of drilling.The drilling truck set up a derrick and starteddrilling for water. Another truck held the drillextensions plus they brought out a water truck.They hit water at 150 ft.This was the first work done on theGlen Fiebig Range as part of the 2008Friends of NRA Grant.5

Building A New shooting RangeSummer 2009May 27, 2009 the range isclosed so the dirt work can bedone. K.L. Wood & Companybrought out their heavy equipment and started digging into thehillside.Fiebig Range was closed fromMay 27 until August 17, 2009 forthe dirt work to be done and forthe construction of a restroom facility.Step Three - Dirt WorkThe first work was to make the100 yd.and 200 yd. ranges.Berms were created at both positions. Building A New shooting RangeBy July the dirt work on the 100yd. and 200 yd. ranges is completed.All the new dirt work at the100 yd. and 200 yd. ranges wasseeded to hold the soil. Morethan 150 hay bales were spreadto stabilize the soil.In August a sprinkler systemwas installed at the 100 yd. and200 yd. ranges so grass can bewatered. The concrete shooting benches from theAirport Outdoor Range will bemoved and installed at FiebigRange. This made it possible for members and visitors to put up a 24 x 24”cardboard target for practice andsighting in.
