THE LAMPLIGHTERNewsletter of theSPRING CITYUNITED METHODIST CHURCHSEPTEMBER 2015Tony’s TalesDear Friends,In my office, I have a yellow street sign thatsays, "Caution. Church Services." It was in acloset at a church to be thrown away, but Iclaimed it. It was used in a day when peoplewalked to church on Sunday morning. It wasplaced at the top of a hill near the church to warnpeople that there may be people crossing thestreet. It was a sign to make you slow down.I look at it and think of something different. Weshould be aware that whenever we walk into thedoors of a church, we are vulnerable to a changein our hearts and spirit. Our Lord Jesus is amighty God. He calls us to be "a kingdom of priestsand a holy nation." (Ex. 19:6, Rev. 1:6) We shouldcome to the church expecting a change in us andchange in the world.Beginning August 30th, I will preach a series onthe work of the church. Better yet, we will spendsome time talking about who we are as the SpringCity UMC. I hope that you will come and sharewith us in worship. And, expect a change.District Conference will be held on Sunday,September 20th at 3 pm at Wesley Memorial UMC inCleveland. The time is 3 pm. At the end of theconference, there will be a reception for our newDistrict Superintendent, Hugh Kilgore and his family. Please try to attend this important and fun meeting. The Cleveland District is sponsoring an event onSeptember 28, 2015, at Ooltewah UMC from 9:15 1 pm. Lunch will be provided. The guest for this eventwill be Peg Arnold, a Christian humorist. If we haveenough people, we will take the church bus. They willask for a donation for the meal, but that is the onlycost for this event. It should be lots of fun. Sign up bythe bulletin board at the side door of the church orcall the church office to say you are going.Shalom,TonyTHE CHRISTMAS CANTATA,“ONEONE SILENT NIGHTNIGHT,”REHEARSALS BEGINSUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13,AT 4:30 P.M.REMEMBER IN PRAYERPastor Tony CollinsMary ConroyPat GallowayLesia GarrisonJesse & Nina GibbsArthur GilliamCarl HesselbachJoyce LavenderChuck McIlwainFred MullinsAud RayMaggie TammarkDanny Chattin (Spring City Care and Rehab, #203, 331 Hinch St.)Margie Hughes (Spring City Care and Rehab. #310, 331 Hinch St.)Ruth Huskins (Golden Years, 301 Keith Dr., S.C.)Ray Keylon (Spring City Care and Rehab, #502, 331 Hinch St.)Edna McCuistion (Abby Mae’s Hill, 419 Pin Hook Rd., Spring City)Kathleen Reece (Spring City Care and Rehab, # 306, 331 Hinch St.)Margaret Scholz (Spring City Care and Rehab, #511, 331 Hinch St.)Lisa Oakley (Susan Collins’ sister)Wanda Weems (Beverly Allison’ssister)Merle Orender (Steve’s brother)Bill Metts (brother of GlendaKeylon)Pravin Roy (Doris Roy’s brother-inlaw)Dennie Hernon (brother-in-law ofEmmaly & Felix Fisher)Billy Arnold (John & Mary Conroy’sson-in-law)Todd Bridwell (friend of Bennie &Susan Arp)Billy Reed (Nancy Gilliam’s brother)Mary Balmer (mother of ChrisHaerr)Janie May (Angie Rose’s mother)Tom Sanders (Loretta Hale’sbrother)Pam Yokley (Dorathy Hasting’sfriend)Kennedy Ladd (Norm & PeggyBowman’s friend’s baby)Carolyn Hesselbach (daughter ofCarl & Kay Hesselbach)David Douglas (Max & Pat’s son)Louise Taber (Donna Hudson’smother)Whitney Miller (Beth Keylon’sniece)Michelle Nasca & Jae Williams(Bob & Sheila Larson’s daughters)Haleigh Hall (Ed & Linda Gibbs’granddaughter)The Family of Ben Gould(brother-in-law of Norman Bowmanand Tammy Boles)
