2019 Solo/Duet/Trio/Small GroupRules & ‹HULQJa Solo/Small Group competition for dancers interested UDOUXOHVDQGUHJXODWLRQVIRUWKHVHFRPSHWLWLRQV WRFRPSHWHLQ2019 Solo/Duet/Trio/Small Group Competitions:JUST FOR KIX ONLY EVENTS: Alexandria High School (Alexandria, MN) the solo/duet/trio/smallgroup competition will be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2019(possibly Sunday, March 11th, 2018 depending on size) Eden Prairie High School (Eden Prairie, MN) the solo/duet/trio/small group competition will be held on Saturday, April 6th,2019 (possibly Sunday, April 7th, 2019 depending on size)JUST FOR KIX AND OUTSIDE STUDIO EVENT: Rochester Nationals Mayo Civic Center (Rochester, MN) thesolo/duet/trio/small group competition will be held sometimebetween April 26th – April 28th.Registration: Entries for the Solo/Duet/Small Group competitionmust be received on or before January 15th, 2019 for Alexandria and March1st, 2019 for Eden Prairie & Rochester. Online registration is available atwww.justforkix.com under Events.-For the Alexandria and Eden Prairie events participants must be active andcurrently registered Just For Kix dancers, with accounts in good standing.-The Nationals event is open to both Just For Kix registered dancers as well asother studio dancers.Entrants: and will be limited to the amount of competition time available. JFK reservesthe right to add additional competition time or eliminate the competition dueto unforeseen circumstances. All registrations should be made through ourwebsite, directions to submit will be announced when available.Fees: Entry fees are as follows: 85.00 for each Solo entrant – 1 dancer total 43.00 for each Duet entrant – 2 dancers total 29.00 for each Trio entrant – 3 dancers total 22.00 for each Small group entrant – 4-6 dancers totalThese fees go to cover facility cost, judges, other individuals working at thisevent, etc. We are proud to be able to offer this event at lower fees thanmost competitions of this s,Trio’s&SmallGroup’s

Categories: Divisions 1 & 2 will be broken down into categories based onage. The age break downs are as follows:Wee: 2-3.5Mini: 3.51-5.5Middle: 5.51-7.5Junior: 7.51-9.5Senior: 9.51-12In the event of low participation divisions may be combined in order to allow for adequatelysized divisions.Performance Styles:- Jazz: Routine using Jazz technique and ,flexibilityandcontrolusing the lyrics or mood of the music.Time Limits: Routines should be between 1:30-2:15 minutes in length.Note: Overtime will result in automatic point deduction of one point for every 5 seconds under/over thetime limit.Choreography: steps and movements. Inappropriate or suggestive movement will receive deductions.- Program Directors should not be expected to help choreograph theroutines. This is up to the directors discretion.- Just For Kix facilities or class time cannot be used for Solo/Small Grouproutines unless through registration.- Your Just For Kix class routine can not be used for the competing routine.- Choreography done by JFK staff may involve added charges, see Directorsfor more information.Music: Music/Song choice must be appropriate. Please take time to be sure thelyrics and meaning of the music chosen is in good taste.- Each entry will be required to record their own musicon an individual CD.- There must be one routine/song per CD, clearlylabeled with the dancer’s name, name of the routine,age division, performance division, and JFK classlocation name.- All music should be recorded at proper speed.For backup, you must have 1-2 duplicate recordingsavailable at the competition.- MUSIC MUST BE SUBMITTED PRIOR TO THECOMPETITION. Music can be mailed to the homeoffice, properly labeled as stated:Just For Kix Attn: Solo/Small Group Competition7842 College RoadBaxter, MN 56425General Props are Allowed: No dangerous props may be used performancefloor.Gymnastics: Gymnastics are allowed when a dancers can successfully performthe skill(s) in the choreography. Skill(s) should not be placed in the choreography ifthe dancer has not mastered them. This is for the safety of the dancer.

Costumes/Uniforms: Costuming can be chosen to match the song chosento perform to. Dancer may use their Just For Kix uniform or provide their own.Costumes/Uniforms should be appropriate.Performing: A performance order will be created prior to the competitionbased on number of entrants and divisions.- Dancers will be given the order and approximate times a minimum of 2weeks prior to the event.- Dancers will line up in the chute, similar to one of our team events hostedat the facility. Dancers are allowed to have a chaperone with them (parent,director, instructor) etc, but it is not required. Dancer will enter onto utinewillstartwhen the music begins and stop when the music nicaldifficultiesor injury. In these instances, dancer will be moved to the end of theperformance order.- All contestants grant permission to Just For Kix to use their photographs toappear on local and/or national print to promote its competitions.Awards: Awards will be given to each participant. At minimum the top one thirdof each division will receive an award based on placement. Awards will also begiven for total points awarded to each dancer, further details on awards will finalplacement.Additional Notes:- Please note that each dancer should register individually via the website.- The rules will be evaluated and enforced on an individual basis, based onwhat is best for all parties involved.- Sportsmanlike behavior is expected at all times. Failure to display properdecorum by the dancer(s) or their parent(s)/guardian(s) could result inimmediatedisqualification.- JFK and the hosting facility are not responsible for personal injury or propertyloss.

But for theNationals event in Rochester, yes theyare welcome to participate!Q: Can we use choreography from aJust For Kix dance?A: You cannot use an entire routine, butas with most individual choreography, itis acceptable to utilize 2-3 eight countsof choreography.Solo/Duet/Trio/Small Group Judging SheetCriteriaAttached you will find a copy of the Judging Sheet for this event. Hereare a few notes about each category.Technique & Execution: This category is where dancers getscored on how they are doing what they are doing. Are they performingthe skills in their routines with proper technique. This involves nsion,controletChoreography & Content: In this category dancers itflowwell?Havusedthemusicwell?etc.Showmanship: This category focuses on the performance of neetc.Q: Can my dancer wear their Just ForAppearance: This category scores dancers on their overallKix class costume?appearance. This is not a beauty contest so we are not scoring ourA: Absolutely. Costuming is a smallfavorite costume, the most expensive costume or the most glitzycostume, it is simply noting whether the dancer took time to do theirportion of the judging, and if it matcheshair, fine.that their uniform is clean and put together, that it is appropriatethestyleoftheroutinethatisjustQ: We originally registered as a duet,and now decided to compete as a smallgroup. Can we change our division?A:PleasecalltheHomeOfficetocheckon the possibility of any changes, 218829-7107 M-F 8:00am-4:30pm.Q: Can we hire an outsidechoreographer?A: Yes. We want the dancer to beactive in the choreography process,but you are welcome to use outineandthatiftheywearmaappropriate.
