ZELL GIFT ANNOUNCEMENTMajor Zell FamilyGift ExpandsEntrepreneurshipat RossMore opportunities for student— and alumni — entrepreneursat Ross are in the works thanksto a new gift from the Zell Family Foundation.The Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institutefor Entrepreneurial Studies has received apledge of 60 million from the foundation.The funds will provide endowed supportto the institute for continued delivery anddevelopment of entrepreneurship programsfor students and alumni. This includes 10million dedicated to a new fund that willinvest in new student business ventures.“Our goal is to accelerate the learningcurve and the opportunities for buddingentrepreneurs, as well as to build a powerfulalumni network,” says Sam Zell, a Universityof Michigan alumnus (AB ’63, JD ’66,HLLD ’05) and chairman of Equity GroupInvestments. “Entrepreneurs have always beena primary driver of growth for this country.I believe that fostering entrepreneurialeducation is an investment in the future.”To further stimulate the entrepreneurialeducation and network at U-M, the ZellFamily Foundation also created ZEAL (theZell Entrepreneurship And Law Program)at the Law School in 2011. The ZellFamily Foundation and The Ann and Robert H.Lurie Family Foundation originally establishedthe Zell Lurie Institute with a 10 million gift.Ross is a pioneer in entrepreneurialeducation, introducing the nation’s firstcourse on entrepreneurship in 1927, andthe first student-led venture fund, TheWolverine Venture Fund, in 1997. TAPPAN & HILLRoss Takes Commitmentto Alumni to New LevelMichigan Ross values its alumni as the school’s most powerfulresource. Now the school is rolling out a new program calledAlumni Advantage, which will offer unprecedented professionaldevelopment opportunities to Ross and other U-M alumni.Ross alumni are now eligible for unlimited full-tuitionscholarships to Ross’ highly regarded Executive Educationprograms. Each Ross alumnus can now also give two peopleper year partial scholarships (50 percent off tuition) toany Ross Executive Education program. This way, Rossalumni can invest not only in their own professionaldevelopment, but also the development of their family,friends, and business contacts. In addition, all University ofMichigan alumni will now receive a partial scholarship (50percent off tuition) for Ross Executive Education courses,offered in Ann Arbor and other locations worldwide.The scholarships apply to tuition and do not cover travel,accommodations, or other costs. Participants mustmeet the qualification criteria for each program. Due tothe popularity of these programs, space is limited.The school is also bringing new ideas, innovative research,and faculty to our alumni in exciting ways. He said if kept close, there’s no doubtthe lessons will have a profound impact on the graduates’ lives.The University of Michigan has partnered with Shanghai JiaoTong University to offer Ross’ new Master of Managementdegree to select Chinese engineering students.Reddy is the vice chairman of GVK, an Indian conglomeratewith more than 75,000 employees and more than 6 billioninvested into energy, airports, transportation, realty, hotels,and pharmaceuticals. At Robertson Stephens he helped create the financialinfrastructure that has powered the nation’s rapidly growingtechnology sector. Bank of America Corp. acquired RobertsonStephens in 1997. Two years later he co-founded FranciscoPartners, a 10 billion private equity firm.
