Learnabout being survivors.Here are a few tips to help new players jumpinto the Zombicide universe!Zombicide is easy to learn. The rules are clearand smooth but could intimidate anyone notused to this kind of game. Thanks to thisSurvivor’s Guide, you can demonstrate thegame to anyone in a few minutes!If you and your group are not hardcore players,consider the Zombicide Season 1 box. BothPrison Outbreak and Rue Morgue featureslightly more extensive rules.Introduce Zombicide to the players. Showthem the box and game contents. Go straightto the core features: this is a cooperativegame where everyone plays a Survivor of aZombie invasion. Survivors have to get alongand cooperate to complete Missions whilebattling Zombies controlled by the gameitself.Then move quickly through the rules. Don’tbother going into details. Explain the coreconcepts, and say you’ll explore the details asthe game goes on. That’s important: going toodeep at this point could confuse the players.Begin with the Game Round overview. On thePlayers’ Phase, each player alternatesactivating his or her Survivor(s). #3 ACTIONS#5 THE ZOMBIESDescribe each major Action in a little moredetail.Introduce the different Zombie types and theirspecific features: Walker, Fatty, Runner, andAbomination. Move: Explain what a Zone is and the waythat Zombies affect Survivors’ movements.Make it clear that this Action can be executedseveral times during a Survivor’s Activation. Combat: This Action can also be executedseveral times. Explain the difference betweenMelee and Ranged Combat. Using theappropriate Equipment cards, discuss thesymbols associated with Combat: Range, Dice,Accuracy, and Damage. Then explain theTargeting Priority Order for Ranged Combat. Search: This Action can only be executed in abuilding Zone that contains no Zombies. Drawan Equipment card for the Survivor. A Survivorcan only Search once during his Activation.Briefly describe situational Actions (exchangingEquipment, opening doors, taking Objectivetokens). Talk about Zombie invasions inside abuilding when it’s opened for the first time.#4 SKILLS4Get to the conclusion with a quick descriptionof the Zombies’ Phase. Attack: A Zombie attacks a single Survivorstanding in the same Zone whenever possible.The second Wound is lethal. A Wound cardreduces the Survivor’s Inventory and forcesthe Survivor to discard an Equipment card. Move: Make sure to review Zombie movement rules if you’re not familiar with the game.Zombies that didn’t attack move toward theSurvivors, guided first by sight and then bysound.1 – Zombies select their target: First thenoisiest visible Survivors, then the noisiestZone if no Survivor is in sight. Distancedoesn’t matter.2 – Zombies try to reach their target bytaking the shortest available path.In both situations, if Zombies have severalvalid targets, they split in equal groups tofollow them all. Add zombies to make thesegroups equal. Keep an eye on the Zombiesplitting rules.Describe the Blue Level Skills for the Survivorscurrently in play. Specify that Survivors gain anadditional Action at the Yellow Level. Don’tbother with the rest. #6 TIPS Avoid Searching with the last Survivor’slast Action. You will not have any Actions leftto deal with unexpected events. Better safethan sorry. How many Survivors got bitten bydrawing a vicious “Aaahh!!” card? Might Makes Right. Stay together. You’ll increase your team’s survival odds. As you getbetter with the game, you’ll be able to safelysend out Josh or Wanda as scouts. As a rule,however, staying together is the best basicstrategy. COOPERATE! Don’t keep the good stuff foryourself. Getting good gear to everyone iscrucial. Don’t think twice about giving the niceEquipment card you just drew to anotherSurvivor if he’s more suited to using it. As thegame begins, pass along the startingEquipment cards, if needed, until everyone hasthe proper Equipment. (Your Survivor attackstwice with his Fire Axe, for example, then givesit to the next Survivor, who do the same thing,and so on.) Control the Zombie population. LackingZombie miniatures to crowd the board triggerslethal extra Activations for Zombies. Be sureyou have enough spare Zombie miniatures forthe next Spawn phase (especially if you planon opening a building in the same round). Ifthat’s not the case, it means you didn’t killenough of them! That’s why it’s calledZombicide.In the same way, keep track of the extraActivation Zombie cards you discarded alongthe way. Anticipation is the first step tosurvival.With these tips, you’re now ready to begin theZombicide! Open the buildings as soon as possible,while the Danger Level is still low. Blue isbetter. Opening a big building at the higherDanger Levels is like opening Pandora’s Box.A horde of Zombies immediately overwhelmsyour team. Control the experience gains. More oftenthan not, refrain from killing that lone Walkerthat will push you to the next Danger Level.
