This year, in addition to casemanagement work, she became a memberof the North American InterprovincialVocation Team.Over the last 25 years, it has beena deepening of knowing God’s faithfulness and my ability to return thatfaithfulness. God keeps calling me tolove and out of that love I am able tolove and serve others. I have grown ina loving appreciation for creation andhow it expresses God’s faithfulness andconstant presence to me.Community life has been a blessingfor me. It has helped me to develop asa whole person. Coming from prayer,I go out into the world and do my bestto reflect Christ’s presence to others.I come today to ministry, with asense of being gifted. I gain from thepeople I serve as they gain from myservice to them. They keep showingme the many faces of God. Each dayI am looking for the gifts that Godblesses us with.I have become a lifelong learneras the result of being an SSND. I keepchanging and growing with the many“different experiences I have been offered. We are missionary and are calledto be in the world and with thosein need. The need is great and, asSSNDs, we are empowering others tojoin us in our mission to make Christvisible and making community wherewe are in our ministries and thoughour SSND volunteer program. In thismost divided time in our country’shistory, the world really needs our giftof community and presence. “Jubilate Deo! continued from page 7A blessing of these years is that Ihave been called and led to do manythings that I, myself, would neverhave thought to do. Being part of aninternational congregation has provided countless opportunities. Theseexperiences have enriched my life innumerous ways and made me veryaware of God’s presence in my life. Before I was asked to go to theGeneralate in Rome in the early1970s, I had never been east ofChicago, so it was a big event for me.My world broadened hundreds oftimes over. Learning the Italian language during those years (1974-82)enabled me to experience and minister in other special ways since then:writing “Manual for General Treasurers” in Italy in 1983-84; workingat the Prefecture for the EconomicAffairs of the Holy See from 199294, where I directed the developmentof a program to create their consolidated budgets and financial reports;and doing Italian interpretation forinternational finance board meetingsof the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother(1997-present).God speaks to us in many ways, including through thoughts and ideasthat come to us. We can depend on”God’s faithfulness when we are opento His voice and respond positivelyto it.CELEBRATING 60 YEARSSister Sylvia Provosthas ministered atevery level ofelementary education as a primary andintermediate teacheras well as in administration. She alsowas an educator insecondary schools. From formal classroomeducation, Sister Sylvia moved into parishministry where she served as pastoralassociate and program director for 25 years. Her ministry took her to Arkansas, Illinois,Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Texasand Ghana, West Africa. Currently SisterSylvia serves as community bursar atSt. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, Miss.My fortunate encounter withthe School Sisters of Notre Dame atage 10 was a life-changing experience. It was and is today a continuedblessing in my life. I am grateful forthe education I received and for theministry opportunities I have had. Ihave learned that I only have to liveone day at a time and in the present“Donor SpotlightBy John Burnsike so many before and afterme, I have fond memories andlasting friendships from myelementary school days at St. Francisof Assisi School in Brookhaven, Miss. The devotion, attention and qualityof teaching by the sisters and the layteachers provided a solid foundationfor further education and for life itself. As is so often the case, the lastinglessons did not come from any bookor even inside the classroom. This isparticularly true as my wife recentlyinformed methat my attaining“Aqua” status in theSRA reading labin first grade wasnothing to bragabout. However,I do rely uponSister Paula Blouin’s economic andfashion advice: “You only need threeoutfits: One to wear, one in thelaundry and one in the closet.”I have refined her advice andL8School Sisters of Notre Damemoment that God has given me.Working in the African-Americancommunity for many years was such ablessing for me. In 1984, I went toSt. Augustine Parish in North LittleRock, Ark., with Sister Carol Nishke. We were asked to lead the parish ministry. We began by visiting homes to getto know the people and their needs.Rides were found for people whocouldn’t otherwise get to church.Homebound parishioners were assistedthrough delivery of groceries and hotmeals. Students were given tutoringhelp with the after school learning club.Other ministries included overseeing theparish’s liturgy, maintenance, financesand a day care. Singing was a great joy,and we joined our voices with others ina Gospel choir. Our parish served as arefuge in a neighborhood dealing withdeserted and boarded-up houses. You could not come to our churchand not be greeted or known. Whenyou walked in the door, you were home.We were a family at St. Augustine. Itwas a privilege to live and minister thereSchool Sisters of Notre Damefor 25 years.”Visit our website for more Jubilee profiles!www.ssndcentralpacific.orghave travelled around the world using“Sister Paula’s Packing Principles.”It also helps to explain my affinityfor gray pants and blue shirts, theSt. Francis uniform. As a lawyer, I am often remindedof Sister Regina Hoer’s dispute resolution mechanism. To resolve oneparticularly dicey playground dilemmaover team names, she simply decreedthat the second grade boys wouldalways be Notre Dame, and the firstgrade boys would be whomever Notre
