WelcomeThe 2011 RNCM Festival of Brass will be the biggest yet.For the first time in its history, the festival welcomes oneof the brightest brass ensembles from South America.The high-spirited Venezuelan Brass Ensemble will bemaking its Manchester début at The Bridgewater Hallon 30 January as part of a festival focus on youth brassbands and music. The Sunday of the festival will openup with the thrilling sound of over 100 young brassplayers of the Cornwall and Gwent County Youth bandswho will be performing under the direction of Dr RobertChilds. The RNCM’s own ensembles and the Fairey(Geneva) Band will be showcasing new repertoire.The RNCM Festival is unique in the brass band calendarin its combination of quality performance and substantialrepertoire. The Black Dyke, Cory, Foden’s, Grimethorpeand Leyland bands will be focusing on the music ofDerek Bourgeois, who celebrates his 70th birthdaynext year, and will also feature the work of a number ofyounger creative talents – headed by Peter Meechan,whose Tuba Concerto receives its world première –alongside some of the classics of the repertoire.There will be a comprehensive trade exhibition that will featurethe UK’s leading retailers and manufacturers displaying thelatest in brass instruments and accessories.
