Technology tips from Year 6Issue 06 – Term 3, 2021Did you know that screen breaks are essential?Regular breaks help you to reduce your stress and they also help your eyes to focus on something else at differentdistances away from you. A screen break also makes you move your body so that your blood flow increases, youoxygenate your brain, and your muscles move and flex.Recent research has shown that our brains aren’t idle when we take breaks. Instead, they are hard at workprocessing memories and helping us make sense of what we experience. Thus, screen breaks are crucial forconsolidating memories, reflecting on past experiences, and planning for the future—in other words, it helpsshape how we make sense of our lives.Overall, screen breaks keep our brains healthy and play a key role in cognitive (brain) abilities such ascomprehension (understanding something) and thinking up new ideas or things to try. It’s true! Just ask our Year 5 and Year 6 students. Watch two videos below that willinspire you to take a well deserved break from your device.Watch Evander in 5/6K explainthe importance of a screenbreak and make suggestions ofwhat you can do instead.Informative and humorous.Enjoy!View via Google Drive appWatch Nicole in 5/6N giveyou some ideas for yournext screen break.
