Even better, it was amazing to seethe vast majority of our students proudly wearing school uniform! Welldone – the pride and presentation this creates is so important. Again,a big welcome to everyone, with a special mention to our new familiesand new kindergarten students.I am pleased to inform you that our enrolment numbers have grownquite significantly and I am still taking daily enquiries about newstudents wanting to enrol at our school.Today students were placed in their 2019 classes. It is very normal forsome students to feel some anxiety at this time of the year. Studentshave been very carefully placed based on a whole range of factors.Teachers know best on where to place students and have very specificreasons for placing each student. It is important now to give themtime to settle, build resilience and get to know their new teacher andnew friends. As I clearly stated in two newsletter editions at the end oflast year, the only reason now for changes will be for new enrollers orleavers. Our classes are as follows:ClassKindergartenKindergarten / Year 11/21/23/43/44/556Teacher-librarianSpecialist programs / RFFLearning and Support,Literacy & Numeracy interventionTeacherAmy AustinKim MalivanekLena PattersonEilidh DaviesLyndal BarrettCraig LindsayMichael MiranaLibby CrampDanielle HaywoodSue AustinMark CollinsonMichelle BoyleRichard BoyleLorraine MarshallJacqui PickPrincipals report continued over page .A proud member of the Lighthouse Valley Learning CommunityMorrison Ave PO Box 122 Mullumbimby NSW 2482 T 6684 2373 F 6684 1294 mullumbimb-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.mullumbimb-p.schools.nsw.edu.au

Jodie was appointed to this position late last year after submitting an applicationand going through an interview process. Aftermeeting with Mrs Austin and Miss Malivanek last week for their Best Start Assessments, they commencedschool most enthusiastically and with great confidence! Many thanks to our P&C for providing morningtea and welcoming parents of Kindergarten students. We look forward to working together over the yearsahead to maximise learning outcomes for all of our students.Swimming carnivalCongratulations to all involved in our swimmingcarnival last Friday. There were some impressiveperformances, including a new record beingestablished courtesy of a fantastic swim fromMontannah Archibald. Also most pleasing to see wasthe amount of boys and girls simply ‘having a go’,even if swimming is not their strength. There weremany points gained simply through participation, infact the most we have had in recent years. A carnivalneeds a large team of helpers, and I would like toacknowledge and thank those parents who assistedMorrison Ave PO Box 122 Mullumbimby NSW 2482 T 6684 2373 F 6684 1294 mullumbimb-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.mullumbimb-p.schools.nsw.edu.au2.

Term 1 Week 2 Monday January 4 2019in some capacity on the day, whether it was as atime keeper, judge or assisting with setting up /packing up. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.A special mention also to Mr Lindsay for hisorganisation and coordination of the carnival andto Joan Patterson for acting as judge on the day.A team of students will soon be notified of theirselection in our school team to compete at theHeadlands PSSA Carnival scheduled to be held onThursday 21 February in Ballina. Best wishes to allstudents.School PhotosAs indicated in the final newsletter of last year, just a reminder that these are taking place nextMonday 11 February. Envelopes were distributedto students yesterday. Please see Tracey or Karenin the office if you need another envelope.Partnership with Northern Rivers Conservatoriumof Music (NRC)We are extremely excited that 70 studentshave enrolled in what I am sure will be agreat program. That is almost one third of ourschool!! A significant amount of research clearlydemonstrates the benefits of learning a musicalinstrument and it is so pleasing to see the interestin this initiative. At this stage we are aiming for astart in either Week 4 or Week 5 of this term, onceour school timetables and routines have settled.I will confirm a starting time and more details assoon as it is known.AFTER SCHOOL &VACATION CAREAfter School CareIn further positive news, we were informed latelast year that the After School Care programoperated at our school by Byron Shire Council willcontinue this year. I have once again been ableto offer the upstairs classroom in the middle of DBlock for this year. Please keep in mind that thisextension of the program is just for 2019 at thisstage. It is important not to become complacentabout the future of the service beyond thisyear. It will only remain operational with strongenrolment numbers. Please call Jamie on 0437860614 if you wouldlike further information or to enquire aboutenrolment.Fig treeAs you were made aware last year, our large figtrees on the northern boundary of the school havebeen cordoned off. An extremely large limb fellfrom the most western tree (closest to MorrisonAvenue) and the DoE Assets team have beenworking with arborists to determine the mostsuitable course of action for the tree in question. The results of the arborist testing indicate thatthere is significant decay to this tree and as aresult it needs to be removed. Whilst this isunfortunate, safety to students, our neighboursand everyone who enters the school is by far themost important concern to us.I will inform you as I know more.Nut free schoolA number of children enrolled at our schoolhave severe allergies. Some have anaphylacticreactions to nuts and nut products.Examples of items we would prefer not see atschool include, but is not restricted to Nutella,Snickers Bars, Peanut Butter sandwiches orcakes and slices made with peanuts or peanutproducts. We thank you for your understandingin this matter. Our preference is for all children tobring nut free items to school. If this is a challengefor families we ask you to discuss this with theschool as a matter of urgency. The safety of all children in our school is at thecentre of this request.Have a great week.RegardsDavid LeesPrincipalMorrison Ave PO Box 122 Mullumbimby NSW 2482 T 6684 2373 F 6684 1294 mullumbimb-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.mullumbimb-p.schools.nsw.edu.au3.
